Breakdown Cover

Hello,

 

My breakdown cover is up for renewal, its £134 and with the RAC.

 

For that I get:

Roadside

At Home

Recovery

Onward Travel

 

Could anyone recommend anyone else??

 

I drive a 10 year old golf and drive 80 miles a day so keen to get something.

My partner and I have both of our cars covered with RescueMyCar - better quotes than Green Flag, AA, RAC, and slightly cheaper than what I was going to get through insurance.

 

Used them twice - once to deal with a flat tyre and once for snapped alternator belt. Nearest independent arrived at point of breakdown and taken to a garage of choice for work to be carried out.

 

Signed up using Quidco, so got some cashback too

I bank with Barclays, so buy their travel pack. This gives the same level of RAC cover that you get, and multi trip travel insurance for £10.50 per month, so slightly less than you pay for RAC alone.

I have my breakdown cover with the AA, I have just renewed and have everything they offer except for the courtesy car and I paid £160. Included in the cover is the ability to make up to 5 claims a year and have the AA pay up to £500 towards the cost of repair which if your car is 10 years old may be useful.

I bank with Nationwide and get cover with the account think they use Greenflag

I use autoaid. only used them once in a non emergency. Turned up in approx. 60mins. Well worth a look for the price.

Got this years free as it's a new to me car but I have never paid more then £40 for break down but don't get onward travel or at home.

Well worth a look....All digital devices covered too including up to 6 mobile phones...

I use Startrescue.co.uk and they have been great. Used them a couple of times and a local operator has attended in good time.

 

My Dad had expensive RAC cover but when he broke down at night they sent a local firm. He asked why an RAC person hadn't come and was told that depending where you are in the country, they don't come out at night!? Wasn't really worth the extra money.

Another vote for AutoAid.

Been with them years, at one point had two cars and a camper van covered for £43.

Used them twice, no problems whatsoever.

I have gone back with RAC but don't know why as not had good experience with them

rang them midnight - first call 20 minutes on muzak then cut off - second call 15 minutes muzak before answered then 90 minutes for guy to come.

So 35 minutes before answering a breakdown call - could have been someone on the side of the motorway with kids.

For me having home start or equivalent is well worth the extra, having once gone through the hassle of getting my car far enough from home when it needed repair. Also watch out for how far they will recover you and/or the vehicle. A colleague was driving from Cornwall and broke down near Bristol, with 180 miles remaining to home. The policy through the bank would take them 50 miles and then the rest was at a high price per mile.

 

I use GEM motoring assist - not the cheapest, although they have some good introductory offers and I pay a bit more to cover two drivers in any vehicle (although still less than the OP).

I bank with Lloyds. Full AA cover, travel insurance, phone insurance, and other stuff, all for £17 a month.

Always go with rac, use topcashback.

 

Used them a few times with different cars and got a brill response time compared to AA.

 

Alot of people say autoaid. Prob is from what ive read is that you have to pay the towing company and then claim it back.

I just signed up with RAC via quidco, had all of what you list below and cover for any car for me and the wife for £170, quidco will give me £65 back, £105 for all that cover i a bargain.

I have used AutoAid and Start Rescue in the past, both are absolutely fine. They send out the nearest independent firm, which in my experience has been CF Motoring Services every time. In my opinion, there's no need to pay for expensive AA or RAC cover.

I switched to http://www.rescuemycar.com a couple of years ago, around £50 for me and my wife's cars, with national recovery and homestartWould never use the AA again due to disgraceful service, and the RAC just seemed expensive on the last quote.

After this thread I double checked my Green Flag through my Natwest Platinum account, and it's pretty fully covering too, so thanks!
