NIC teaming on Windows Server is also for load balancing, not just fault tolerance.

I would imagine most schools would have either broke up on Friday last week, or Friday this week. 1.30pm finish for us, much to the annoyance of the parents!

I thought everyone just used Tempest? Never had any bother with them.

For anyone following, a new ZD1200 is getting here on Monday, so a 6 day turnaround for an out-of-support RMA!
-
I've started a RMA to get a replacement, but do you think there's a chance I can get the config from the dead one before I send it off? I don't think I ever took a backup. Also, do you know how the licenses work? Would the new ZD come with the licences applied or would I have to request they be migrated? Thanks!
-
What's the chances? I wonder if they have a pretty consistent lifespan? We got ours in August 2015.
-
Thank you for the offer. I'm currently remoting into some APs to get them switched over to unleashed to allow some sort of wireless access in the short term. I might take you up on your offer to try to recover the ZD soon though.

Unfortunately it looks like it's died. It's got the 2 solid green lights that's mentioned here.

No wifi network beinng broadcast at all.
-
I came in this morning to find our Ruckus wireless network is down. Nothing is being broadcast at all. The ZD1200 is not reachable over the LAN, but it has lights on and appears physically fine. I have tried power cycling it but no joy. I do not have a console cable. Any ideas?

Why is the wife isolating? There's no requirement to isolate now unless you either have Covid or are contacted by NHS Test and Trace because you are a close contact and haven't been vaccinated. -
Our keyboards are never cleaned. It's nobodies job unfortunately..
-
It's a good thing I set it up so well when I started 7 years ago, it just ticks along nicely (mostly) now! The time will come soon where I need to totally step back from IT though.
-
One important point to make is that I am sole IT in my school. And even then, IT is not part of my main job now so I have less time to spend on it than I used to.

Thanks for that Lee. I don't particularly like Lightspeed Rocket if I'm honest. The interface is slow and the assignments/rulesets can be annoying. However, it does have a reputation for being among the most powerful and 'safest' filters, hence why our LA has used it for a very long time and will continue to do so. Off-prem isn't really an issue, it's very unlikely our pupils will ever have school devices off-premises and they don't do remote learning either. We have a few staff that do now, but that's not really an issue. A demo of Sophos XG would be great.
-
In my search for a new broadband supplier I've discovered that quite a few different filtering products are offered as part of the packages. What's everyone's opinion on them, and would they be a step up or down from Lightspeed Rocket? Wave9 use Sophos XG Exa use SurfProtect Aspire use Smoothwall SchoolsBroadband use Netsweeper A couple of local companies use Fortigate

what CCTV settings do you use? FPS, Bitrate etc.

I have Hikvision cameras. Some are 4k, some are 1080p. 4k might seem overkill, especially if you're only using a 1080p monitor like me, but if the cameras are capable and you have the capacity I'd recommend 4k as it allows a clearer picture when zooming in. Bitrate type: Variable Video Quality: Highest Frame Rate: 20 Max Bitrate: 5000 Video Encoding: H.265 H.265+: Off (I did have it on but had some issues exporting video, and I didn't need the storage savings anyway) Hope that helps. -

I had my booster back at the start of October. How long until it loses effectiveness I wonder? -
Short answer - I haven't decided anything yet. Other stuff got in the way...
-
There's nothing worse than buying an expensive new monitor and it arriving with 5 dead pixels. Under most warranties, 5 is the maximum allowed so you're out of luck. That said, I personally wouldn't pay for this service.
