I'm setting up some iPads for teachers to use as their personal devices. I've got Office sorted on them, as well as printing and all the apps I think they'd need like Teams, Zoom, Google Drive, OneDrive etc. The thing I'm struggling with is getting access to their personal network drives. Using the built-in Files utility I can only map to the root file server, not their individual drives. Apparently this is a limitation of the Files utility. Documents by Readdle seems to be highly recommended so I tried that, and it looks like it maps individual network drives perfectly. The only problem is, it opens documents from the drives within the Documents app and as read only, not with Word, Excel. Can anyone suggest a solution? I need to be able to access a network drive and open the Office documents with the Office apps in edit mode (like you would on a Windows device!) Thanks.

We've had a few issues in the past. In the end we told the parents that they were welcome to use our WiFi but it could not be relied upon for a reliable connection (we have semi-regular broadband dropouts) and that they'd have to provide their own internet connection, so that's what they do now.

My thoughts exactly! Surely something as expensive as solar panels would only be disconnected for a good reason. It's all well and good trying to save money but for something like that the experts should be called!

Yep we can. As a school (not just IT) we do 90% of our ordering on Amazon though.

Our local 'lighthouse' lab had it's planned capacity cut by half before it even opened - I'm not even sure it has actually opened yet. Capacity can't be that much of a concern.

I did this recently. Configure your Office 2019 package with Office Deployment Tool, then deploy it with SCCM or similar. It just installs over the top of 2016.

Yep. They manage the Google domain that we use for emails, and we also have our own O365. The email side of this doesn't really get used When you don't have anyone whose job is dedicated to IT, sometimes its easier to let the LA take care of some essential services like email and broadband/filtering. - - - Updated - - - Don't get me wrong, £5000 was never a viable option! I just wanted to know if that was the going rate, so I know whether to bother negotiating or not.

We do have a schoolname.org domain that I use for AD/O365 but I won't release them to the LA for use with our emails. I agree £5000 is definitely far too much to justify, but I do think there is some value for an SEN school having a very simple domain name. I very much doubt the owner will come down in price though. Our default domain is quite long. For example, my email address is [email protected]. It's a massive pain reading out our email addresses, especially as the school name has a tricky spelling. I've been eyeing up xxx.uk (school initials) and have enquired to the current owner. They want £5000 to sell the domain name to us. Do you think that is a reasonable amount for a 3 letter .uk domain name?

It's A1 Plus I have, and yes I can install Office 365 locally. I've managed to get the admin password for the laptop, so that's what I've done. Fingers crossed it stays installed!

It's obvious we have a problem in this country that has resulted lower vaccine uptake in black, asian and minority ethnic people. The reasons for this are likely varied and not quickly fixed. It seems to me, with absolutely no PR training, that making a video such as this with two, rich, white men will not really help to convince people from these backgrounds to get the vaccine. Just a thought.

The guidance says any software we install through that method is liable to be erased by their MDM though I'm trying to get Office Online up and running but am having difficulties so actually installing the software would be easier.

Quick question for those who have the DfE-secured laptops. Logged in as localuser, can the pupil download and install Office 365?

We've all been done as well. It's all hush hush as officially the government says there is no need, but the LA and local NHS trust have chucked some our way.

Ever since I started purchasing iPads in 2015, we've been using Lightspeed MDM for the configuration and deployment of apps and Apple VPP for the purchase of apps. I have never used DEP. We've received 20 odd iPads from the DfE so I've set up an Apple School Manager account and added the reseller so I can see the devices. I've also linked the MDM to ASM. My question is, if Apple VPP is being closed down, how can I purchase and deploy apps for my 30 odd non-DEP iPads? Apologies if the answer is obvious, but I'm still not 100% sure how the various platforms relate to each other.

We (special schools) have known this all along. In November and December we were absolutely hammered by the virus. It was obvious to everyone involved that PHE and the government have been outright lying.

What do you mean 'go ahead'? We've been doing it since last Tuesday!

It's been a week since I started showing symptoms, and honestly it's been awful. I'm relatively young and fit, and it has really knocked me on my arse... Timeline for anyone interested: Wednesday night - slight cough Thursday - still coughing a bit, developed a fever in the evening. Severe headache began. Friday - cough disappeared. Still feverish. Severe headaches. Saturday - Began to lose taste and smell. Headaches continued. No energy. Sunday - Lost all taste and smell. Headaches continued. No energy. Monday - Headaches continued. No energy. Tuesday - Headaches stopped. Still no energy. New cough and wheezy chest. Wednesday - A bit more energy today. Cough and wheezy chest is worse, mostly when I'm lying on my back. I'm hoping I'm past the worst of it now. My wife is about 4 days behind me so hopefully she isn't affected by it as much.

Now 15 positive cases and more than half of our bubbles isolating. It's very quiet...

Each case we've had, it's been the whole bubble. If we could demonstrate that the positive case had only been in 1 room and around 1 class of pupils/TAs, then we'd probably just make that class isolate. But this hasn't been the case so far. Since the start of October, we've had 14 positive cases, only 3 of which were pupils. At present, half of our bubbles are isolating.

Anyone else getting 2 or 3 of these messages per day now? It started off just one here and there. The app itself hasn't felt the need to notify me so I mustn't have been too close to the positive cases (or for too long), but the amount has definitely increased in the last week.
