We use dynamic groups based on enrolment tokens, not sure this is the right way to do it or how well it scales, but our 8 different sets of iPads have different enrolment tokens, then I just assign the devices in bulk in apple school manager and they all end up in the right dynamic groups once enrolled, mostly we just name them Setname-serialnumber which can be done automatically on enrollment.

I know good deals is a relative term at the moment, but been asked to recommend a laptop to a member of staff, ideally around £450 but stretch to up to £600. Office work and light gaming, ideally to get their child through 5 years of school. Finally figured it out, not entirely sure why it fixed it but it has. I had apples ip range set as a destination exception. Removing this fixed the issue.

It's really odd, I also get a connection error going to icloud.com on my pc. Our local smoothwall is in bridge mode, there are other appliances at the LA but we bypass those, although I do have access to an unfiltered proxy - when I use this proxy it works fine, can't really deploy this to all staff though! I've added all the apple urls manually to our group that does not have https inspection, as well as setting the icloud and apple groups on the smoothwall to bypass filtering. Checking the SSL cert in edge on the icloud site when I get the error shows it was issued to apple, so smoothwall isn't intercepting and using its own certificate. Realtime webfilter monitor on the smoothwall for my ip shows nothing when trying to access icloud. It's quite frustrating!

Random one, but I can't turn off find my iPad on any devices when they are connected through our smoothwall. All other apple stuff works, logging in etc, apple urls are set to bypass ssl inspection, and realtime log shows nothing being blocked. Just doing domain capture so need to transfer apple accounts across and this keeps failing for this reason. Can anyone else turn off find my iPad through a smoothwall filtered connection? Never had a problem before so not sure if this is a recent thing? Hotspot off my phone and it works fine.

I'd hope it's slightly better uploading them to copilot which we have done a dpia for than someone taking pictures off the website and blackmailing us with deepfakes though. There does seem to be this weird situation where AI is becoming the solution to some of the problems which AI has created, maybe eventually they will just fight it out themselves and humans wont be involved..... 🙂

Annoyingly, not sure now. We used co-pilot to trial this before agreeing it as a policy - took a few photos of our team and it changed the faces to other realistic looking faces that weren't us with no problem. Started trying to do it on our website this week and it now says that is not something it can do, and only offers cartoon style or blurring. One option is the site linked earlier in this thread, but its quite expensive, so we are currently looking at other options.

We had a meeting about this this week. Our website and social media will have faces changed by ai now so real looking but not actually real children. We are going to start emailing out newsletters again (rather than doing them through our website) and have requested a new consent from parents to allow images of their children to be shared with other parents only via email. This seemed the only logical conclusion. We asked for consent for images for social media and website previously, and in light of the new guidance would need to re-request this. We were going to share the new information, and then re-request permission, but then realised the email would go something like: We've had new guidance that there is now a real and proven risk of us having your children's images on our website where bad things may happen to them and we may be blackmailed by them. Do you give us permission to put them on there? We couldn't see a lot of parents saying yes to this, so concluded we should just remove them.

Limited to set times of day, or limited for certain amount of time after issued and then it expires? The first is simple with timezones in Paxton, the second, which I imagine is what you are asking, I'm not so sure!

If they are for normal sized (30 pupil) classrooms I'd recommend going bigger than 65". We put 70" in about 13 years ago and have slowly replaced them all with larger ones as they are just too small for a classroom.

No problem running a cable out to where the doorbell push will be, I'm just trying to avoid running cabling into 4 separate rooms which need chimes when we already have adequate network sockets in those rooms.

It's their network chimes I'm hoping to use. Just need to be sure it all happens locally - doorbell > Unifi OS controller > Network chime. I ideally don't want the internet / cloud involved!

We use our 3cx phone system as a pa system. I'd imagine it's possible to integrate it into that, but looking for the keep it as simple as possible option, press the button and multiple chimes go bing, and possibly bong 🙂

We've got Paxton intercoms for our gates, but they are expensive and we don't need all the features they provide, it doesn't need to be any smarter than a doorbell that rings multiple chimes around the building at the same time.

Has anyone used the doorbell lite and smart chimes? We don't need intercom or video, we just need a doorbell that works well and can sound multiple sounders in different rooms from a long distance. Standard cordless doorbells don't come close the the range we need (have tested the 1000ft ones) and a wired doorbell would be a pain running cabling. The POE powered chimes look ideal, then just running a cat5 out to the doorbell, but want to know they work well and can ring multiple chimes at once, and don't need internet / cloud access to work.

We use the Avery waterproof labels. I just print up pages at a time with the school details and a blank box which we fill in with a sharpie with the asset id. Some have another black space for name if they are going to be allocated to an individual. Just stick new labels over the top when we re-allocate them.

Schools that have moved all storage to the cloud, do you allow staff full access to this from personal devices? Do you have any restrictions in place on what they can access / download? Do you provide school devices for staff to work from home if they don't have a personal device available? Obviously will have things like 2fa in place, this is more about access to data and the concerns around it being downloaded and saved to local devices. At the moment we provide secure remote access, but I'm leaning towards allowing personal devices once fully cloud, supported by further staff training. We already do annual cyber security and data protection training, but could also add in further guidance for working from home.

I did wonder if it was an app update issue, but the 2 I have personally looked at were running the latest ios and when I went to the app store the only option for outlook was open, implying there was no update available. One did have an update available for Intune company portal, but updating this and restarting made no difference.

Not sure if its related, but I have had 3 staff have issues with the outlook app in their iPads this morning, it doesn't respond to touch at all, closing it and restarting the iPad doesn't help, uninstalling and reinstalling the app does. I've also just been called to a chromebook where word in teams keeps crashing and the page has to be reloaded, so I suspect something is up

Has anyone used Facilitator to take meeting minutes? We're trialling this, have a copilot licence assigned to the head, they start a facilitator meeting and use it to take the notes. This generally seems to work well, but the process for doing this makes it a local meeting that isn't assigned to a team. We can add facilitator to a full teams meeting, but this doesn't appear to be the way to do it for an in person meeting. The notes it then generates include actions. These can be opened in Planner, but we can see no way to move this plan to a team so actions can be assigned to others, the plan is local to the heads account. A few guides online say about copying the plan, but this only seems to work for plans already in a team, not personal plans. This has the potential to be great and save a lot of time, it's just a little disjointed at the moment.
