We have phones in every room which can also be used as a tannoy, we use a bell for lockdown which should be more reliable than an IT solution. We also recently issued cordless phones to key staff so they are contactable wherever they are on the site.

I've got 32, maybe 33 of these computers pulled from an IT suite this summer. All are touch screen (but a fair few don't work as touch anymore) and a mix of i5 and i7 all with ssd drives. They aren't windows 11 compatible due to their age. Would anyone want them before I arrange recycling? Located in East Sussex, would need to be gone by the end of next week.

Only expired contracts, we purchase through the LA, I'll give them a shout first and see if the reseller needs to do anything if not I'll contact Microsoft. Thanks.
-
Thanks, that's where I thought it would be but I only have some really old versions of office (2013 being the latest) and windows 7 in there?
-
Great, thanks. I thought it was. Any idea where I get it from?! (we have Microsoft A3 licences for all staff)
-
Does A3 include a licence for this? Looking to deploy windows 11 this summer, previously been using WDS for windows 10 deployment but know this is not officially supported.

I've added the nyt.com ones too and it seems to be working now. Thanks everyone, means I get a peaceful weekend! :-)

One of our teachers likes to do The New York Times Wordle with the class each day. It used to work fine, but a couple of weeks ago it stopped loading and just displays a blank page. It appears to be a filtering issue, I've whitelisted a number of the urls that I can see it uses, and can load the page ok on an account I have with less filtering, but still can't get it to load on the teachers account. A live view of the filtering doesn't show anything being blocked, and I'm not getting a block page come up for the teacher just a blank page. I'd like to try and fix it as the teacher also happens to be my wife! :-)

We changed ours to contract with three, I think we pay about £5.20 per sim, worked out cheaper and more reliable than the PAYG ones we were using. I think we do pay by direct debit though, we never used to be allowed to but finance seemed fine with it now.

We've just finished having a 3cx system installed with Yealink handsets, very happy with it. Chose to go on-site VM although cloud is an option too, we just wanted a way of communicating internally if the internet is down. We used a company called Clarion, although I think I would happily do the install myself if it came to it again. They have been pretty good and no major issues with them, it's just pretty straight forward and quick to learn.

We get them from KRCS, they have great education pricing and do trade in too. We aren't talking huge sums of money, varies from £20 - £50 for the devices that we trade in, but helps. Occasionally apple boost it too, we got £10 extra per device on one purchase because we were trading in / buying at the same time, but they don't often do this.

Generally try and stick to devices that either have current ios, or the previous version. Seems to work out to be around 7 years on average. App support starts to drop off after this, especially some of the Microsoft apps. We usually trade them in when buying new iPads.

Amazon prime (which includes some music) and Amazon music (spotify equivalent) are 2 different things. Prime gives you access to some but not a full catalog of music. I'm not sure what other restrictions there are. I used to have Prime and Amazon music, as it integrates nicely with the echos, but got told by my teenage children that spotify was better, so changed to the family plan on that. The echo's now play from amazon (prime) sometimes and spotify at others. The prime video included with prime has add, no adds is i think £2.99 more per month. Difference between prime and music are here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GW3PHAUCZM8L7W9L

Do you have anything else that calls for heat? Our heating can be off, but the air handling unit in our kitchen is linked into a heating loop and that system can call for heat. Because of the bad way it is designed, this can then cause heating to distribute round the school (we have to manually shut off valves to stop it happening)

Arbor - Electronic Data Collection From New Starters?
steveg replied to GreenBean's topic in MIS Systems
There is no import option that I am aware of, but if you have them on the system as applicants you can give them access to the parent app to add their own data directly (which you then approve in Arbor) https://support.arbor-education.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010518958-Using-the-Parent-Portal-and-Parent-App-for-collecting-applicant-details- 2 replies

I have assigned all 11 devices to another mdm, re-synced, assigned them back to the one I want them on, synced again, manually assigned their enrollment profile in intune and so far they now seem to be enrolling. No idea what went on, but thanks for all the suggestions. Always frustrating when you have a whole set of identical devices with identical setups and they don't all do the same thing!!
-
That would stop them all enrolling, 51 of the same set have enrolled fine, it's just 11 that aren't! - - - Updated - - - I did take one home to try for that reason over the weekend, sadly same result.
-
Yep, looks identical to all the other ones that works. When running through the iPad setup its like its not got an mdm assigned, doesn't even try to load a profile or anything, just runs through the full setup like a consumer iPad.
-
Has anyone ever had some new iPads not pickup their mdm server? New set of 62 iPads, appear in ASM from the supplier, I assign them to a new MDM to bring them over to intune. about 1 in every 10 iPads is just setting up like its a personal device without trying to pull the configuration down. I've searched for the serial numbers in ASM and the device is there and shows as being linked to the same MDM as the rest that are working. Tried removing it and re-assigning it, tried updating to latest ios and reset, but it still just configures itself like a personal device.

Mosyle MDM - Some iPads aren't supervised
steveg replied to Renfield-123's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
It should be as LeMarchand has said above. Step 2 is completed by the supplier once you link them in with their number, very little effort on our part. This also has the security advantage that unless you release the iPad from ASM no one else can use it even if reset. All the iPads shouldn't have the same apple id, in fact basic pupil iPads mostly wont have an apple id at all, or a managed one if required. It is worth looking into updating your process, it's been about 8 years or more since we set iPads up like you describe. -
Follow-me printing and exercise? :-)

Haven't had to clean an inkjet printer in years, but i remember using nail varnish remover quite effectively in the past.

Odd internet issue possibly smoothwall related
steveg replied to steveg's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I currently have tickets going back and fourth between the 2. Senso say they need to support TLS 1.3 to align with best practice and comply with other vendors who are already running 1.3. Smoothwall have said that although the plan to support 1.3 at some point, they have no timescale for this at the moment. I can see Sensos need to update, but pushing this out with no warning when it is going to cause a significant amount of issues to a lot of schools is not good practice. -

steveg replied to steveg's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
In case anyone else is having the same issue, Senso have advised logging a call with Smoothwall. So far it appears to be that Senso have updated to TLS 1.3 which smoothwall doesn't yet support. I have a ticket open with smoothwall which Senso are also contributing to, hopefully to find a resolution.
