I have entered the relevant URL's in the LGfL Webscreen Local URL filter but for some reason my devices are still not updating!

Well you don't have to invest in Apple's profile manager (or at least not any money ...because its free).

 

It works just fine....for all the basic stuff....although there are reports of problems when you get to hundreds of devices...which is not our case.....

It does only run on mac so you'll need to invest if you don't have one already.

Mosyle is very good. I couldn't work without it now and even better was that most of it is free!!!. It's only the bulk commands and the like, that you have to pay for.

 

do you have any idea what the proccess for migrating from one MDM Solution to another is?

 

id hate to have to reinstall 300+ ipads again - even with dep they need 14gb of apps each and the cache server can be a bit of a pain!

1. Revoke Apps from devices

2. Remove VPP token from existing MDM

3. Remove DEP Token from existing MDM

4. Upload either new or existing VPP Token to new MDM

5. Download/ Upload New DEP Token to new MDM from ASM

6. Configuration of new MDM

7. Reset all iPads

I was recommended Mosyle Manager. Its a great piece of software. All accessible via web browser.

Just make sure you register your apps and use a VPP account via Apple School Manager first.

It takes a bit of time to setup but once sorted is great.

I have used Mosyle, Lightspeed and Meraki, and definitely think Mosyle is the easiest. Unfortunately I've got 300 iPads in Lightspeed and the thought of trying to transfer them all is too painful so I am stuck with it, but if I was starting again it would be Mosyle.

I had similar, 50 odd ipads in Meraki and moved them across to Mosyle, Did take a bit of time but was worth it in the end!

So how many of you using Mosyle are using the free version? Looking at alternatives to Lightspeed (used for over 800 iPads), mainly due to cost but premium Mosyle is the same if not a little more expensive.

Got 500+ devices on Mosyle Manager Free and it works like a charm. Definitely advised to use Apple Configurator and supervise your devices first as it gives you greater flexibility with the MDM. Having left Lightspeed for Mosyle, it's been all positives.

We've got around 200 in the old "free" Meraki, but now the rest (800 so far?) we're using InTune linked to our Microsoft OVS agreement. As this is done on FTE (then students free), it works out cheaper than the others we looked at and is in Azure Web.

Yep. Manage a MAT with each school having its own VPP. You just have to create the 'locations' and then when adding your VPP accounts, you just assign it to the location applicable.

No you have to add on an Enterprise Mobility Security thing to qualify but for us it was more economical as we have 1600 students/potential InTune users for only 122 Mobility licences .

It would be worth checking out Mosyle's Partner program. Back when we last spoke to them in March, they weren't quite ready, but it seems to be live now.

500 devices.....? You must have all the time in the world..?

 

You should definately NOT be using Apple Configurator and use ASM with DEP, devices are supervised and enrolled into the MDM when activated.

 

Users can delete the MDM profile at will without DEP, means you have to re-enrol into the MDM, more time wasted.

doesnt stop you putting the ipad into recovery mode, connecting it to itunes and moonwalking off with your new untraceable ipad.

 

DEP is the best thing to happen to ipads in education, you can even register old orders to DEP at the discretion of your reseller as long as they were bought after DEP went into service iirc.

Reread my previous post...whilst you can password protect configurator profiles you can not password protect the MDM profile, so a user can delete this at any time without DEP.

Apple's profile manager (and/or configurator 2) are both pretty clunky - but can be made to work...and are free.....

We use Intune here. Pricing is really cheap. 3.60 ISH per staff FTE and it gives you 25 Intune licences per one FTE you buy.

Really powerful, really happy with it. Especially as it's through office 365

I’ve started to go this way with a few customers.

 

InTune isn’t the nicest UI though. Lots of having to go to different blades to do simple things

You get used to it, and it does seem to improve somewhat rather regular.
