Drinking whilst driving

No not another person whos had too much to drink in the pub but ...

 

 

when did it become the norm to drink hot coffee whilst driving the car ?

 

I fail to understand how this can be safe at best and could be down right deadly at worst, yet every day i see scores of people with there mug in hand driving along

Around about the same time it became the norm to stop off on the way to work and buy a ridiculously expensive coffee in a non-recyclable cup. EVERY DAY

And then moan about not being able to afford a mortgage!!

It's not safe. You can be done for holding anything in your hand whilst driving because you don't have both hands on the wheel. Hence why people applying make-up, eating breakfast or even shaving behind the wheel get pulled over.

I agree - I'll buy them occasionally (mostly at Christmas to be honest), but otherwise I'm happy with the tea I can get at home or school thanks!

guilty. When I go to the training centre every other weekend, I have to set off at 6:30, so I make myself a coffee for the car. I have set places where I sip it, like at red lights and on straights

I don't think drinking from a mug is as bad as using a mobile phone. Drivers on the phone tend to concentrate on the conversation, not what is beyond the bonnet.

If you have to stop in an emergency i know which id rarther drop on me "hint Not hot /scalding coffee" (No i dont hold a phone in the car and if needed use a propper handsfree kit)

Following the Surrey RPU Twitter they do pull people over and have quite a crusade against mobile users. Remember you only see a fraction of the road network around you, as do the Police on patrol. You won't be seeing the people getting pulled over for Tax, MOT, phones, etc. And when you do, you won't know why the driver has been stopped.

Drivers who are absolutely vile and throw their fag ends out the window. I am never afraid of confrontation on people who do this. I will flash if it happens, and even get out the car.

 

I know of someone that the car in front threw their fag end out, it went into their car and the interior caught fire. Bit extreme and rare I know, but it can happen.

 

It's disgusting.

Agreed, smokers (in or out of vehicles) seem to think it's fine to discard fag ends whenever and wherever they like, it's up there dog owners let their dog sh1t anywhere and not pick it up.

What about listening to the radio, or talking to a passenger?

 

Those VR studies into the effect of "distractions while driving" that the BBC trot out whenever they have a story on drink driving or phones in cars always include having the radio on or talking to someone in the car with you, and the measured drop in reaction times never looks like it much less than being drunk or texting.

 

It always bugs me that they include those as well. The lack of a significant sounding (to the layperson) difference dilutes what I think the message should be, Don't drink, text, eat, etc while driving!, and replaces it with the absurd sounding notion that a driver should be completely isolated and without any stimulus.

Yeah what happens with Smokers if they drop their fag, lighting up etc.

 

Last week had someone tried to cut in front me of me on a roundabout with a phone in one hand against his ear. I didn't let him in front and neither did driver behind who was also thinking same as me, nice when that happens :-) .

I will be so pleased when driver-less cars are the norm then everyone can drink or smoke or listen to the radio or virtually anything they want and it wont affect the car or lorry in any way.....wont that be fun......then everyone will be happy and no one will be able to twist about their pet driving hates.....

 

OMG!!!........what will we find to twist about whilst sitting in our driver-less vehicles I wonder???

 

One thing I do know is that every vehicle will use its indicators properly haha!!!......have a nice day ya'all

An ex work mate and I used to cycle the same route into work.

 

People would often toss out fag ends as you passed them in a queue of traffic.

My mate would pick up the fag ends and toss them back through the drivers window and say "you dropped this" hehe

I personally don't smoke, but I believe people should be able to smoke in their cars. Mobile phones, hot drinks and shaving I completely agree with but I believe car journeys can be some of the most boring/depressing things especially your drive to work on a bad day so people should be entitled to at least have a cigarette on the way!
