First of all thank you from City of London School for your great work, the Exam Write Pad software has made our life so much easier.

It takes considerably less time to configure the exam laptops and it is much more reliable than MS Word with dozens of registry changes :D

I would like to add a few points for improvement in our exam officer's eyes:

-Bullet points-Bold, italics and underline for individual words-Adjustable page width (currently 2 settings are available)-Character map doesn't stay on top of the screen

It would be great if you had a chance to look into any of the above points but we are still extremely thankful for all your hard work.

Thanks

Michal

Hi Michal,

Thanks for the great feedback and comments, much appreciated.

With regards your requests:

-Bullet points

These are already in EWP

-Bold, italics and underline for individual wordsIf you highlight the word then you can click on bold italics or under line menu items. Im not sure why your exams officer cannot see them as they are on the mini toolbar and in the Formatting Menubar

Character map doesn't stay on top of the screen

Are we talking about the EWP character map or the Windows one?

Adjustable page width (currently 2 settings are available)

I would through this back and ask why would you need anything else?

We have just found this great piece of software and I am in the process of getting the config file sorted out.

I have found that I need to save the config after every change. If I change two items it doesn't seem to save.

Also I have been trying to change the default save path, but no matter what I change it to in the configEditor, it doesn't affect the default save path. This stays as the users Desktop.

I have looked at the config file itself and the value under Default Save path is blank, however if I open the file in the configeditor the path is there.

Any ideas?

Hi,

yes you can only save one item at a time and it was done this way be design.

With the config file, if it is blank when you open it up in notepad, but has a path specified in the Config Editor, please make sure you are looking at the same config file in the same location and not two separate configs. And also make sure your looking at the right config option Default Save Path and not Default OPen Path etc...

I have just tested it with blank and h:\ and both work as expected.

DOH, looks like my brain is defective today.

The config I was looking at in notepad and the one in config editor were in different locations. In my defence I do have a headache

Hi again,

Thanks very much for the sub/superscript options. It seems like I'm met with a couple of issues when testing it, though.

If I select some text, and set superscript once, then it's fine

, but I wasn't sure how to unselect it - I assumed it would be to select it again, but it just gets even smaller, and errors out when it eventually reaches a value of 0, and continues to do so if selecting either sub / superscript.

I can't see how to get the font back to normal size after using either.

On a sidenote - if I type in normal, followed by subscript, then copy a bit of the normal text and paste it on the end (in an attempt to continue in the normal size), it seems to go up a size, but not as 'normal'

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks again.

We ask them to change to bold/underline typing when in their extra time. Extra time monitoring is only required during mocks for us. It's used as evidence to prove they require the extra time I believe (SEN related). During the real exams, extra time is just extra time and doesn't require the changing of font.

Same with our School. We ask the pupils to highlight the text either italic or bold.

Just to let you all know that there will be another new version this week with some minor but crucial changes:

CIE Syllabus Codes, can be upto 6 characters in length, EWP only allows 4, this will change.

WJEC candidate numbers, in most exam board the candidate number is 4 digits but WJEC always ask that the number 2 is put before the candidate number making it 5 digits. So I'm changing the max characters of the candidate number from 4 to 5.

If anyone knows why WJEC are like this, drop me a reply, interested to know.

Hi there,

We have been testing the product so far and seems to be really great! I have an odd query - I have set up an exam printing station with a controller and autohotkey. Are there any quick key combinations for "Print Coversheet", "Print Exam" or even a "Print All" ?

There currently is not, simply because we cant assume the candidate details have been filled in correctly and fully. There are command line options to print a file to a specific printer. See the documentation for further assistance on command line parameters. You may be better off scripting it with commandline parameters.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated!! [emoji1][emoji1303]

Hi again, cheers for the speedy response.

Among other buttons "A" button is "Check details" (Ctrl+P). I've got the printing working with coordinates and simulating keystrokes but will definitely have a look at the commandline, thank you for pointing me in that direction!

No problem. I've seen a few schools, where the exams officer, collects the files on memory stick, dumps them into a folder, runs a VBScript that loops through each file in that folder and prints via command line.

Ah, I just checked for the latest updated and can I just say - you add things I didn't even realise I wanted, e.g. the ExtraTimeFont!

Thank you for the maintenance and updates you provide, this is such a great help in the world of exams. Now to get IT to update it on all laptops...

Hi

We have been using ExamWordpad for a few years now, awesome product, just a quick question, occasionally when student print work and the candiadate screen comes up, pressing print the screen freezes out and the print selection dialogue never appears. I can pick up the autosave document from the server and get the student printed no pressure, but is there any way to cancel out of the candidate screen or anyone else see a screen freeze like this when printing?

Thanks !

The candidate window is there for a reason so as to enforce that the candidate fills out all fields necessary as required by the exam board.

Just a few questions, which version of ExamWritePad are you using?

Does the freeze happen before the printer selection window or after selecting a printer?

The reason I ask is that it will only seem to freeze after printer selection, if communication to the printer is slow, for exam printing to a WiFi printer that is connected to a print server.

Other than that the printer selection window is always forced to the top above all other windows.
