Good Morning Sir. Your software is going down a treat here is Chester, we are very grateful for your work.

Our Learning Support office are asking if it is possible to add an option for Double line spacing visible on the work, rather than only at print?

I'm hoping that with version 2 I can unify the single line and double line spacing to one method, which will also allow for double line spacing on screen.

What this forum as I bet it wont be long :-)

Could we have ddd, dd/mm/yyyy to the left of the clock?

your request has been noted, I think it will be done next week sometime, just working on v2 possibilities at the moment :-)

Hi Pal,

Just had some feedback from a student following an exam. All great feedback, the only bug reported was that when a student scrolls back up the page to amend an earlier piece of text, after a few moments the document jumps back to the end, which they did find a bit irritating. Any idea why the document jumps back to the end?

It could be the auto save or auto backup, after one minute each time, I'll take a look, thanks for the bug report :-)

Thanks for some brilliant software, all the exams staff love it.

One thing I've noticed - and yes it's a rather niche situation, but.

If you go to close the program having never saved the document, click "yes" to the save prompt, then click cancel on the save location screen, the program continues to close down. While the backups mitigate any trouble this might cause, I feel like the expected behaviour would be that hitting cancel should abort the shutdown.

Thanks for all the updates.

I take your point on board, I will fix for next release :-)

On the new version, if you save after the candidate details box and then click save again it fills in the filename box with the file path.

Also, on exit it asks if you want to save and it now just exits without saving.

Hi Folks,

I'm currently working on version 2 of ExamWritePad, so far so good, its nearly finished, re-written using an Extended RichTextBox control from Microsoft.

So what I'm asking for is features to be added in that could be useful to have.

So far I have already implemented the following (over the weekend):

Formatting Options (Menu)

Single/Double Line Spacing (screen & print)

Bullets

Alignment (Left/center/right)

Styles (Normal/Italic/Bold/Underline)

Indent Paragraphs

Screen Options (Menu)

Zoom In

Zoom Out

Zoom Reset

Text Editing (Menu)

Undo

Redo

Select All

Cut

Copy

Paste

Also a new toolbar with smaller quick access buttons on

Most of the above can be disabled from being shown via the config file as normal.

I'm very open to suggestions, and all the bugs/issues reported previously have now been sorted in version 2.

If your wondering when it (version 2) will be released, I will release it next week just before I go on holiday. Please don't use it in a live environment until you are happy that you have tested it fully.

And like you have been doing report any bugs ASAP, but mention which build number you are using eg 1.9.9.3 or 2.0.0.0,

When I'm back on the 10th I will respond to you all.

Hopefully we can get this in every school within the next few years :-)

I showed our exams officer this software yesterday, they love it! I'm now doing some more testing but its exatctly what we are looking for. My only suggestion is when you enable double line spacing, please can it be shown in the program rather than just on print.

Otherwise, keep up the great work! You'll make a lot of peoples lives a lot easier.

Can we add the current date to the header options (where you add candidate name, centre number exam etc)?

For example, 24/05/16.

Invigilator asked for it.

Thanks very much.

It is already done for version 2. :-)

@ass17, not sure if this is possible or not, but due to PEBCAK issues with 1.9 and our office staff, how easy would it be to have a saved document to be able to open in Exam WritePad on startup if the file location was provided, that way we could register the file extension for it similar to Office.

Our loveable office staff seem unable to follow the bullet point instructions I provided (almost tempted to reissue with pictures!) so appear to be printing it out via notepad :)

Let's try breaking this down, apologies but I don't understand why you would want to open a previously opened file, for what reason? I can see a point to registering the .ExamText file extension then you could double click on the saved file then it would open up.

Are you wanting this because you need to print out in a different location or time, than directly within the exam once finished?

@ass17 we don't have any portable printers, and our laptops are standalones.

Students save their exam work onto a USB stick which then gets printed off on another machine in their presence (the Exams Officer has not cotton onto the fact they can do this from the teachers computer in the room yet, so give it to reception to print off)

If WritePad could be called with a switch (say /open %1) and it automatically loaded the file specified by the variable that would be sufficient as we can just associate the .ExamText for the computers ourselves.

If it's not possible don't worry, I've got a 2x4 ready to educate the office staff with :p

Don't worry, I'll build it into v2, when you first run the software it will self register .ExamText file extension, but only on a per user basis, because some users won't have write access to HKCR registry to make it global, hopefully released on Friday or Saturday. :-)

I've now added into v2, each time the software opens will self register its own file extension (.ExamText), so in real terms, open the software then close it (so it registers the file extension), then every time you double click on an ExamText file, it will load into the software to print off or do what ever.

The reason why it self registers everytime you open the software is because it makes it more portable, so if you move its location to a different folder, it will self register again.
