Wow what a great idea! This is just what we need but neither the word count or character count work for me? I'm using version 1.8.

Thanks

thanks, fixed in 1.9 - coming soon! :-)

How soon is soon @ass17 ?

Stumbled upon this today and I'm looking at marketing this to our exams officer. I had the idea to write something like this myself once upon a time, but you've come out trumps here. This is excellent work, keep up the updates!

****NEW****

Attached is version 1.9

Added – Auto save now implemented if file has been save will save every minute. (the same time an auto recover backup file is generated).

Added – "SavePromptAfterCandidateInfoScreenOnLaunch" so that after entering in the details on the candidate info screen it will now prompt to save the file. MUST be used in conjunction with "ShowCandidateInfoScreenOnLaunch" in the options file.

Fixed –Word Count and Character Count now counts, (didn't in previous few builds).

ExamWritePad19.zip

------------

If all is well then THIS is the final version, unless people start requesting more features or post bugs...

Also remember that a new build number starts a new backup folder, so please delete any older version folders within c:\programdata

And

backups/recovery files will save every 1 minute, by default, automatically (and on application close).

Other saves are to be done manually by clicking save (whether you have saved the file or not).

So in theory if you never save the file manually the previous versions on offer should allow you to restore right up to the exact point at which you last entered something.

Not opening for me either. Seems to show an icon in the system tray for a split second, then closes. Win 10 Pro here.

Have you changed the config file from the defaults?

Hi Folks,

The issue in 1.9 is down to the config file.

To fix it please insert the missing to end the "DoubleLineSpacingPrint" so it should look like below

         0

         0

im going to post a minor update 1.91 later today, I've added to the config the option to turn on/off the AutoSave Feature. 1 = on 0 = off

You dont have to download this if you feel you dont need it you...

Wonderful! Works again with that fix.

One slight issue I've found, is that the 'word counter' seems to count spaces, rather than words?

If you were to write 'Hello *return break* world.' it wouldn't count any of those words as you've not put a space.

Not the biggest of issues, but its-something-meme.png

Word count is now fixed! coming in 1.92. Have changed the whole function to match regular expression. so now works with carriage returns, full stops, semi colons, commas, spaces etc..

Hi,

Great work with this.

Is it possible to have a 'Redo' option, as well as the 'Undo' one that is there? The undo button clears the whole page and I can't see how to get the student's work back (if not saved beforehand).

Cheers :-)

Ok will take a look. Don't forget if you have been using the software for longer than one minute you can select a previous version to restore if things go wrong.

Can the recovery/auto save data be set to save elsewhere or provide an option to change it in the settings file?

If a different student logs on to the same computer, they have the ability to recall the work from another student because it is saved within the ProgramData folder by default (creating a security risk). I understand that correct file permissions would need to be setup etc.

Thanks.

They won't because the software will only recall the last hour of backups from each time the program is launched. And in reality the time from when the morning exam finishes to when the afternoon exams starts is around one hour.

Also don't forget that the exam that is taken will never be taken again, so what use is a backup after an exam is finished?

The auto recover data could be saved anywhere but you would have to make sure the folder where it is stored has write permission. The reason for the program data folder is because it is writable off the bat, in Windows 10.

Valid points.

It would affect our mock exams though if there was a break time of only 15 minutes in between lessons and different students switch over.

Can you still offer an option to change the ProgramData/Autorecover location?

Thanks for the good work! :)

Not sure why you're having problems writing to AppData though, nothing's changed in Windows 10 as far as I can find out.

Note that files written to ProgramData are owned by the user, so other users can't change them by default. Seems a bit of a security hole if you need to truly isolate users.

Better to write to the network then if the computer fails during an exam it's easy to switch to a new computer.

Yes, I would prefer the backups to save to their user area so that everything is in their own account and I don't have to worry about any shared data issues.
