The LG has the dual HDR standards, supports Netflix and Amazon video in 4k (nice have) also has Bluetooth for headsets good for personal listening in a busy room or for flexible placement of a sound bar. EDIT: it also has 3x HDMI 2.0b ports and the only one of the four with HD freesat. Edited by chazzy2501

I woul ge a sony one as I have a smart its not 4k but I have been look at them a refresh rarities good and you et sony well

Sony has had quite a few issues with their Smart Apps running Android tbh which would make me avoid them.

I got a 4k LG TV earlier in the year in an Amazon sale and I'm very impressed with it.

I have the previous version of this tv (the 620) and it's glorious. LG every day of the week. 4k netflix and amazon out of the box. All the catchup apps you want, it even has youtube for kids which is useful for those days when you just need six straight hours of peppa pig!

 

Best £360 I've spent in a long time!

I hear LG generally bad for input lag for gaming etc, can anyone confirm or deny? I have problems with it on my LG Normal HD tv..

 

Mine is used for gaming quite a bit and I've not seen any at all. Where did you hear this? Could be FUD spread.

I seem to struggle more on my LG tv in games like COD (inb4 git gud.) than i do on my samsung tv upstairs, input lag on LG tv downstairs is awful on guitar hero (and it's on those forums that tons of people seem to say LG are one of the worst for it)

I've also had no problems with gaming on it. Trumotion seems to help with motion blur, though I have it off for watching TV (it's just too smooth).

input lag may also be in part determined by tv mode not exactly the same but i fixed screen tearing on my sony on ghost recon wildlands on my xbox one just by seting the tv to game more rather than auto so it must change something besides backlight settings etc Edited by sted

To say one brand is better than another is silly. Just like cars, computers and eveything else, there are always stinkers in the lot.

Sony don't make panels, so they are either Samsung or Sharp inside. LGs tend to suffer from LED failure after a couple of years and some Samsung TVs suffer from BGA issues on the mainboard. LG OLED TVs suffer from banding.

Don't buy your TV from a shop that sells toasters that's known for it's poor customer service and support, buy your TV from Richer Sounds where they come with a 5 year warranty and they know their stuff.

i believe the lg oleds also suffer from something i thought dies with crts screen burn in

If I was looking for a new tv (and I always am!) I’d be looking at LG or Samsung. I have one of each in the house at the moment - tho the LG is old now. I do usually buy for the smart features tbh but as long as it runs plex! No problems on Samsung with the Xbox one s. I’m not a big gamer tho.

LG is tempting but want to use it with an Xbox one X so would the LG hold out ok? I have always gone Sony or Samsung but if LG is better happy to swap!

 

Well, my LG plays 4K Blu Rays from my Xbox One S fine, Obviously I have no idea about 4K gaming and will wait until the X has dropped in price a bit next year before taking the plunge.

Just got the 49 inch LG in the Currys Black Tag sale at the weekend.

Pleased with it so far.

I have even taken to remove my PC from behind the TV as we only used it for Netflix and Amazon Video.

These apps on the new TV are amazing. I never could get away with it on my old Samsung, using their Smart TV was like running in syrup.

But thats now upstairs where my Legacy xBox 360 will be going.

Does anyone know if the optical output on the LG's supports true Dolby pass-through or is it downgraded to stereo (like my current TV)? No information online about it..

Was very tempted by that last week. Only thing thing that stopped me was 3 hdmi (that and I’m supposed to be saving for a holiday!). I’d arguably not need more hdmi with all the built in apps
