Of course, Amazon is always tempting isn't it but for me, I'd rather not place business with them that could be handled by a British based company that doesn't have the tax issue associated with it. That said their set up is certainly very good and with Prime swift delivery but my Account Manager at Higate usually is able to better the price and doesn't charge us delivery either.

I try hard to avoid Amazon for personal purchases because of tax and employee treatment issues, but don't try quite as hard for school as we would claim the vat back anyway. Doesn't help with tax on profits, but at least covers the scam of "avoiding" VAT....

 

Just bought some cameras from John Lewis as they were significantly cheaper than our regional public sector purchasing organisation (ESPO) and Amazon. No need to set up an account as we'll just use the school credit card.

My go to suppliers these days are Storm Technologies, BT Business direct and Higate, Storm normally comes up with the best pricing.

I'm currently using EBM Office Centre - my account manager Ian Steele has moved from other companies and I've followed him. Always been very aggressive on pricing and done his best for me.

 

Recent batch of PCs I've got from Stone however - pretty solid machines really and I like the fact that they come with virtually no packaging so we're not upsetting our site manager by filling up the skips. They use their own Vans for delivery and the PCs are 'slotted' in to custom foam padded palettes.

I got a call from my former Misco account manager yesterday, about 80% of the Misco staff across the board, not just sales, have all moved to PCM. If you give PCM a call and ask for your account manager at Misco, you might get some luck.

 

I also use CDW from time to time and had been using Kelway since about 2004 before they got brought out by CDW.

IDNS are our main go to, Debra is our account manager and always bends over backwards to sort what we need. and will always give us the best quote first...

 

i dont understand how people can even tolerate the likes of softcat, you mention a paperclip to them and they have 7 expert calls booked in and hastle you for months

We use Haptic.

 

Always help us out. But with any supplier, it's buidling that relationship especially if something needs returning.

 

We can order immediately, with next day delivery, and without a PO number. That sometimes is a god send!

This is why I stopped using SoftCat, I still get a reply out of XMA but by the time they reply I've already had quotes back from elsewhere and placed the order and had it delivered.

Whats annoying is that when a sales rep moves from one company to another and calls you up saying" Hi, I am with company A now, and would really like you to use us" and we did initially, but then they sort of just dropped off the map. Their loss is another's gain in my book.

Misco were great through the 2000's but went on the slide around 2013ish. I'd order stuff that was "in stock" and it would take 3 weeks to come - it was always three weeks.

 

I tried them a few months ago to see if they'd improved. I ordered an item that was "in stock", only to get an email saying that they couldn't supply those.
