Visualizers

Hi all,

 

I am looking for some advice and recommendation on visualizers. Currently we use TTs visualizers that are about 10 years old, which are useless. The only function they have is focus and light. We do not have a massive budget. We want to use the visualizers to display work and text books on the IWB. The visualizers need to be compatible with windows 7 to windows 10. They need to have the function of focusing, zooming in and out etc.

 

Any help will be most appreciated.

Are they any good? We have TTS easi-view visualisers older versions that are rubbish. Do they have any functionalities?

The picture quality is great and they're really flexible, but I wouldn't recommend them, the joints break.

Define not a massive budget?

 

We use a mix of visualisers, but our preferred is Elmo. The P10HD would be more than enough I'm sure, but is around £800 a pop!

We have some Aver ones which are very good, and can work directly with a projector / screen. If budgets are tighter and you are happy going through a pc (which has other advantages too) then the Hue HD usb ones are very good, especially for the cost.

We've stuck to Epson, we've had a mixture and the Epson appear to be best - robust, good quality and are software driven so just requires a USB cable into the PC rather than teachers having to mess about with VGA cables.

We scrapped visualisers, bought Airserver licenses for each teacher PC and just airplay from an ipad (open camera app)

We use a mixture of these and an older version:

They aren't cheap and although I understand the 'just a webcam on a stick' comment, I think it depends on if the teachers are going to use all the extra functionality.

 

Or you can look at the extras as being a form of future proofing and the software helps with annotating the image as well.

 

We tried cheaper models, but were plagued with software issues and lighting (50/60Hz problems - lines on the screen). Some wouldn't really produce a clear enough image, some wouldn't zoom, some wouldn't even load the software.

 

It was a bit of a struggle to convince the SLT to shift their expectations, but when I did get one of the cheaper ones to work it was obvious they weren't going to be any good in a real world classroom scenario, there was no real zoom without quality loss/lag and the room had to be light (which meant the projected image was washed out on the screen).

 

The Aver ones are much better quality (and rightly so... £££) but they are a bit more robust and easy for the teachers to use (as they have auto focus/auto image buttons). You can use either a VGA/HDMI (directly to the projectoror) or USB through a PC/laptop to use the software.

I have used Airserver few years ago at a different school. With Airserver can you lock it down? for example I don't want class 4s teacher accidently connecting to class 4j laptop.

We're using AirServer too (it's brilliant btw, would totally recommend above buying Apple TVs etc).

 

As far as I know there is no way of restricting which device can AirPlay to which receiving PC, but we've got round this by not having AirServer run on Startup. Teachers have to launch the AirServer receiver on their PC, then the iPad makes a connection.

 

We haven't chosen to replace visualisers with iPad / AirServer though. The visualisers can be angled and placed above documents etc, iPads not easily.

You can control air server with their "Installing Air Server for Windows" guide which they will email you upon request. Also possible if you have an mdm solution you can control which Ipads can connect to which air server etc. Meraki MDM has a "AirPlay" payload which can be used for this.

The visualisers we have are all Aver models. Some of them a pretty old now, but they're robust and work well. Where they're used, they're connected directly to the projector (through the wall socket) and laptops connect to the projector using a pass-through on the visualiser base.

IPEvo Ziggi HD's have served me well the last year or so. I haven't had one break yet and overall have been solid. Works via USB and the program it comes with is simple to use which is my basic requirement for everything.

The program itself is simple and pleasant enough.... from a deployment point of view though the current Windows 10 MSI mucks up C++ if you've got it installed (and by extension SCCM client in my instance!), and is a £$%^ for turning off the auto update function...

I am looking to purchase either the AverVision U50 or AverVision U70, most likely the U50 as this is within our budget. Has anyone come across these or used them before? Any feedback will be much appreciated.

One of my schools uses those, but they seem to be mainly used as glorified OHPs. I see teachers print out stuff to show via the visualiser rather than just their laptop .

I've had a quote for them. Are they any good? how is the picture quality and focus? our main purpose of them will be in guided reading. They want to put the story book under the visualiser so that the pupils in class can read together. it will be connected to the laptop on to the IWB.
