Only 7 seconds? You must be on one of their fast servers...

I get that Cloud-sentry thing popping up for about 7 seconds before it loads the site.

Finally got our issue sorted. I phoned them and got through quite quickly but somewhat miffed that they didn't respond on the ticket I posted.

Would seem the HTML5 version of management creates corrupted adconfig files so you have to revert to the Silverlight version (by tweaking the url) to get it to re-create this file. Our AD Sync tool worked its way through as it should.

They are now trying to push Reading Cloud on to us - we're about to be invoiced for the next year so can't cancel yet but gives the librarian enough time to find something else.

If only they had some kind of testing system to make sure that didn't happen, oh wait, that's their customers

I think they've given up even testing on us. The product hasn't changed since they changed it to Silverlight as far as I can see.

Softlink/Oliver looks quite good. Anyone know if it does barcode scanning ?

Doesn't everyone? It look me an hour to write a program that bar code scanned, went to the internet, and downloaded book info, as an idea I had one the fly when teaching programming.

Hi,It's ages since I last played with a barcode scanner, but the PS/2 version I used back then just appeared as a keyboard - I always assumed that the USB ones would be the same? Doesn't that just mean that you select the field, scan, and it types it in for you? (I'm talking generally here.)

Yeah, still the same, by default

Afternoon all,

Recently inherited the systems at school and struggling with Micro Lib. Our librarians take 5- 8 mins on average to get onto the system. Support is non-existent and they are very good at ignoring emails and not returning calls.

What is the average login time people experience when using it?

If set up appropriately, they do. Brought in mine from home last time we had a lot of new kit in and it saved a lot of time by just scanning in the barcodes to a text file.

Fired off an email to Colin Lloyd yesterday at 14:00. Quoted their joke of an SLA to them and asked for a prompt reply. Guess what........

So we are now actively looking for a new supplier. We are an all through school of around 800 kids. We have three libraries across the three main school buildings. Where do we go? I need something cloud hosted that is easy to manage and use. Ideally something I could hook up to my MIS (PASS using the API) but that's not crucial. Our contract with MLS runs out in August so we don't have that much time. Any suggestions?

Can't get any response from their support. Could anyone still using Eclipse shed any light on what is the most current version? I've got a server version of 15.12.3.1036. They supposedly told our librarian that we need to update in order to get certain reports functioning, but provided no more information and their support site is useless.

I just emailed them again this morning, we have issues every week 5-10 minutes logging in or loading objects sometimes. It does this on my home internet as well as in school. Their support isn't there and is intent on blaming us for the issues. Absolutely disgusted with it.

Currently trying to login to Management to see if I can do a complete export of the catalogue. I think the system is sensing this because it keeps giving me an error message when I try to access it!!! This cannot continue!

The export I did before leaving wasn't worth bothering with, Author was a single field rather than split first/last etc, there were no ISBNs and a few other things were totally missing.

Email from 247Lib!

For an onsite installation you can either rent or buy 247lib.com .

Buy Option:

To purchase 247lib.com licence for 1 or 2 concurrent library staff administrators: £ 2000

Annual support payment: £ 500

Rent Option:

Includes licence and annual support: £ 800 per annum.

All prices quoted are exclusive of VAT.

** Annual support includes upgrades for 12 months, hotline support, email support, support via the website; additional support may be provided by Skype, webex, TeamViewer, VNC, if you want help by these mechanisms

Notes:

The above includes:

i) The software for the library staff

ii) An OPAC ( website for the students to use an Online Public Access Catalogue to view items, reserve items, renew their loans … and other web services ) for unlimited users – you can create your own additional OPACs. 247lib.com is the only LMS provider to supply schools with highly tailored OPACs included in the price.

iii) The software for configuring the library software – the library supervisor can add/take away services using a web browser.

iv) A licence for ReportBuilder from OpenText, which allows you to create your own reports, if you wish to . … we supply all the standard reports, but if you want to generate your own PDF or Word reports in tailored formats, you need this. ReportBuilder does not require you to learn a language – you create new reports by point and click ( unlike other library systems). ReportBuilder resides on the web server.

247lib.com is a web application, which requires the .Net framework within a Windows environment

247lib.com may be installed on a VMWare virtual machine running MS-Windows with IIS installed

A SMTP server must also be accessible to 247lib.com to be able to send out email notices, such as overdue notices and instant email notices generated by the library.

Connectivity to other major libraries is available via Z39.50. In essence this may require specific ports to be opened on specific IP addresses for access to sites like the British Library, the Library of Congress in the USA, the Moscow Library of Sciences etc. But importing catalogue definitions from these libraries can really save a huge amount of time for the library staff in cataloguing items.

If students are to be able to access the services from their homes, they need to be able to access the web services from the internet, so 247lib.com is usually placed within a DMZ web server. No data is usually held on the DMZ web server, so the DMZ server VM is static and does not change except when upgrades to the system are applied.

All data is usually held within a Microsoft SQL Server database on another VM securely behind a firewall.

We recommend installing SQL Server with extended services, if you wish to upload electronic documents into the library and have content searching i.e. keyword searching within collections of catalogued library documents.

The DMZ web server needs to be able to communicate with the database server via TCP/IP.

247lib.com is a multilingual solution. The core system is provided in English, but if you wish to support web pages in other languages e.g. French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, we can advise your students how to convert the OPAC into these languages. 247lib.com is based on Unicode and can accommodate catalogue records for resources in any language.

For the OPAC we recommend a secure connection with SSL enabled i.e. https

We deliver an OPAC to your specification within the licence price. We require CSS stylesheets, your house colours and style to be advised if we are to truly reflect the school branding and quality of your services.

Some of the web pages may be dynamic i.e. the librarian can publish web page content from within 247lib.com. IT staff can be given guidance on how to extend/change the design of an OPAC or to build your own OPACs. These pages and items can be used by library staff for announcements, etc.

The 247lib.com is a cloud licence rather than a site licence, so if you can reduce your costs by allowing other schools to use your cloud. You will not be able to see their students and vice versa.

A typical school library will only use around 3 or 4 Gigabytes of SQL server database, so the Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition may be used. Book covers are accessed dynamically via Amazon so take no space.

If you decide to hold videos and high definition images within the library, the size can increase very quickly. We would suggest that such high definition images are stored in a web accessible store, which can be referenced by URL from within the library catalogues. Small images of art and photography in lower definitions are very manageable. Collections of online subject tests for students take little space.

247lib.com may reference items held within a VLE or SharePoint if permissions allow.

ANS has signed an Agreement with Microsoft and HPE, so that 247lib.com can be supplied as an ‘appliance’, if you would like to claim all the server hardware and costs back from the tax man in the form of capital allowances.

We had the same issue, logged it as a call and had 3 updates from Support basically saying they couldn't do it either and ignored any chasing up of it.
