Close to 3,000 schools have successfully upgraded to the summer release and the uptake has been faster than usual. I'm afraid that there will be anomalies that occur but I believe the chances of failure are low. If you wait, more information will become available.

No issues here with the install. I had to request them to resend us the Summer Discover release as it never arrived in our SOLUS, other than that - no problems.

no install issues here except when the package was authorised by the LEA it ignored my settings to not deploy during x y time and did the upgrade last lesson yesterday. Not a good day I must say.

Did ours last night. Went through no problems - no just have the usual issues with PCs that were not switched on and have not received the update. Try to ask SOLUS3 to check for updates, and it just says 'it can't as it's scheduled' and sits there twiddling its thumbs. Is there a way of kicking it along a bit?

I have the same issue, with machines that were not turned on.

I do a redeploy and it starts to deploy.

this seems to be a bug introduced in the last solus update for me.

prior to that the machines just installed when they were switched on.

would bumping the number of connections/installs to SOLUS help, i did this a few releases ago but it does seem to not handle machines being off and coming on well.

this is where i miss the older SOLUS where it would deploy it as the user loaded SIMS which worked better for workstations which are not always on when the update is deploy, and then people need to use SIMS as soon as the machine is on.

We have been deploying to our supported schools the Summer 2017 Release with the associated patches (as posted by hiphopamus) in the following strict order:

1) Patch 23172

2) SIMS Summer 2017 Full Release

3) Patch 23173

4) SIMS Summer 2017 - Workstation Patch 1 – CTF Pupil Selection Fix

Smooth running so far!

We are getting tolerance not met, have been advised we need to upgrade from sql 2008 to 2012 anyone confirm or deny this?

As far as I am aware the Summer release is the first upgrade which no longer supports SQL 2008.

The very first thing to check with the "tolerance not met" message is disk space. Is there enough for the SQL backup that will be taken prior to applying the update (and each subsequent patch)?

Posted
@John_Howarth, plenty of disk space.

@SHimmer45 I've not seen any info about needing to upgrade, will keep a closer eye out in the future.

Now struggling with the connection 0 issue on clients, I'm 5 minutes away from just restoring from backup.

check the spring release notes im sure it mentions it and there is the technical roadmap which gives an overview of how long platforms are supported

The client could see the server, and Solus was able to uninstall and reinstall SIMS, but still no dice, have restored from a backup and it is now working again, now to install sql 2014!

Did this procedure (minus No.4 as it wasn't on my solus) last night and everything seemed to go smoothly

Will see today when staff start using Sims :D

An update as I have just managed to upgrade to Sims Summer 2017 release.

Here is the advice I was given that worked

Capita have just got back to me saying that there is no requirement to run the provided patch, the workaround is as follows;

- Within SIMS navigate to Tools > Performance > Assessment > Category

- Under CES Assessment Services , right click on Level , click on Rename Type, rename to AM7Level or any unique title and save.

All working now

initially we ran summer 2017 update (in term time due to exam officer request) and SIMS failed and rolled back, but as we'd scheduled all updates to run, FMS carried on and installed fine...

We were still on SQL2008, so our fail (and a lot of other schools too i hear).

WSSfS rolled back FMS and we were back to where we started, OK.

On Tuesday (01/08/17) we migrated to SQL2014, SIMS/FMS ok, Tried to run summer 2017 update (SIMS only this time), kept failing.

WSSfS 1st Line support advised to "delete solus" and reinstall, I asked if they meant uninstall, they said "uuuurh yeah..." (unsure tone).

I uninstalled/reinstalled, no joy, too many old solus3 remnants and it took 2nd line support most of Wednesday to fix Solus (remove and reinstall etc), run the summer 2017 updates... but...

There is a discover patch that should be run before the summer update (sorry, don't know the number, but removes duplicate SEN entries), we are currently waiting for the Capita Devs to create a post summer 2017 update patch to apply.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask about certain points and I'll elaborate further.

I don't have those menu options, I have performance > Assessment but none of the rest.

I also don't have the patch listed in Solus3 so will contact my LA

05/07/2017 - (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) On demand Patch 23172 and 23173 released

We have received some calls from customers who have experienced some issues when upgrading their SIMS database to the Summer release. The error message presented is:

Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the equal to operation.

To overcome this problem, customers are advised to apply patch 23172 to change the properties of the tables affected, then apply the Summer upgrade. Once the upgrade to Summer has been successfully applied, customers are then advised to apply patch 23173 to set the properties back to ensure the related applications work. Steps have been taken to ensure this does not happen in the Autumn upgrade.

We've hit this issue, what are the chances of getting hold of those patches tonight? :(
