With my kids - I just threaten them With neighbours you can only ask them nicely... and accept they may do nothing or even turn it up. To be honest, unless it's at a time of night to cause me loss of sleep, I'd probably grin and bear it.

You'd just go and see the person and politely point their music was loud, ask them to turn it down please and almost for sure they would do so. In angry 2017 though the chances of them kicking off about such a request are much, much higher and could easily lead to confrontation. If they are known to be approachable just politely ask; otherwise contact your Council's duty staff and ask them to do something about it as chances are you are not alone in complaining. I have a similar irritation come hot summer evenings where some folk feel it's okay to light up a garden bonfire and don't give a rat's ar**e about the fact that neighbours have windows open and don't want their house stinking of smoke. I posted on the Town's Issues FB page when this very thing happened recently. Not long before the resident Trolls were out accusing me of being a moaning git not having anything better to do with my time than moan!

I was out fixing my car one day and he forgot to turn the volume down prior to putting some P**n on. I think half the street heard it before he hit the mute button!

They play music most nights, If it gets too loud then I hook up my PA system and blast out the most cheesiest music I can think of at the time. It seems to stop them for a while.

It's the same with people who drive along playing that tune that goes "boom-BOOM-boom-boom-boom-boompity-boom". Though to be fair I did hear someone playing classic rock in their car a few weeks ago and a guy in an MLC mobile blasting out the Chili Peppers. I suspect that the worst offenders in our street are Mme & Mlle LeMarchand (Fleetwood Mac, 80s hits and AOR) but the neighbours sometimes join in the wailalong.

It could have been worse but whatever the music, it tends to grate if it's not you who gets to decide on what you have to hear in your own home. One approach, if it's getting late, is to ask them to turn it down by a specific time, rather than right away. It's harder for them to interpret that as being a killjoy.

I used to deal with an old neighbour who blasted a radio the other side of my bedroom wall using one of those iPod FM radio transmitters. Work out which station they are listening to, set the transmitter to the same frequency and blast away the cheese. Worst case scenario they lose reception, but most of the time the signal used to overpower the real signal and play the cheese out via their radio. It used to be quickly turned off! This was a good few years ago now, and I don't really recommend this as there are probably numerous rules as to why you shouldn't do it! Edited June 20, 2017 by crc-ict
