Dos_Box Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Had a restless night last night due to the warm weather and having the leave the bedroom window wide open. Then being hit by the dawn chorus at 5am! Anyway, I woke up very hungry and have just had six slices of toast (with thick cut marmalade) but now feel a bit guilty. Should I be? Is there an acceptable toast limit or as long as the bread packet is open it's ok? 2
Narwhal Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I think one's waistline is the best indicator of 'too much' or 'not enough'. 4
pubgrub277 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 If you get to the point where you're toasting the end crusts then you've gone too far. These should be for the birds! I do think you probably reached the limit for think cut marmalade, maybe try varying the topping, it might induce less guilt.
Dos_Box Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 I think one's waistline is the best indicator of 'too much' or 'not enough'. Oh. Oh dear....

Only if fresh though. *Cues bread crust wars 4
6Foot2 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Crusts are the best bits for toast!... AKA: The heel of the loaf.
Tesla Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 One of my colleagues once came into work with a loaf of pre sliced crusty bread, and a pack of salami. He in turn in the space of about half an hour had made about 6 sandwiches and polished the whole loaf and pack of salami. Hes very skinny and does climbing, among other similar outdoor activities.

MatthewL Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I normally go for 3 slices of toast if I do any or have a breakfast. I don't buy bread in at home unless its like a long weekend like this.
6Foot2 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Outdoor sandwich making? We do have extreme ironing. A new event/activity: Extreme outdoor sandwich making?
eyetea Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Crust / End of loaf is the best bit with the caveat that it's lightly toasted (just turned golden) and there is too much butter on it. On the subject of outdoor sandwich making... my standard lunch for walking/climbing weekends is primula cheese, couple of pittas and a pack of sliced chorizo turned in to a wannabe pizza.

clockend25 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Six slices is within acceptable limits. I approve of such a start to the day. 1

I've often wished they sold loaves of crusts. When my Dad was still with us, it was always a contest as to who got the crust. No opening the loaf at the other end either!
Joanne Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Peep Show.... Brown for first course, white for pudding. Brown is savoury, white's the treat. Huhuh, of course I'm the one that's laughing, because I actually love brown toast. Back to original post.... Too much is when you can't eat any more, but you do anyway. 1
JJonas Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 If you consider buying one of these you are probably eating too much https://www.dualit.com/products/dct2t-slice-conveyor 2
Bedders Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 ... Too much is when you can't eat any more, but you do anyway. This. My method of determining food amounts is as follows: Take one standard serving. Halve the portion size. Because you have half the portion size, you have half the calories. Now you can have twice as much without feeling guilty, as it's only half the calories.
Dos_Box Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 If you consider buying one of these you are probably eating too much https://www.dualit.com/products/dct2t-slice-conveyor Belt-fed toast. £860 is a price worth paying. 2
elsiegee40 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Too much is when the other occupants of the house moan there's none left for breakfast/lunch. My 6'5" son can easily clear a loaf in a sitting but has learned to leave enough not to get shouted at
Garacesh Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) If you get to the point where you're toasting the end crusts then you've gone too far. These should be for the birds! ARE YOU CRAZY?! The crusts are the best bits for toasting! You can drench it in butter and it won't go soggy, and it always has that satisfying crunch that the 'sandwich' pieces just never get. If you consider buying one of these you are probably eating too much https://www.dualit.com/products/dct2t-slice-conveyor There's a bagel place in Piccadilly Train Station that uses one of these. I need one. They're amazing. Perfectly evenly toasted bread like you'd never get in a toaster or under a grill. Edit: Also, there's no question that it'll fit Warburtons bread Edited May 26, 2017 by Garacesh
3s-gtech Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Clear a loaf in one sitting?! That's like - 2000 calories, plus anything you put on it? I feel guilty after eating two slices
JJonas Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Belt-fed toast. £860 is a price worth paying. for an extra £100 they do one that will do 500 slices an hour
mikeprice Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 The crusts ARE the best bit although when I was growing up they seemed to make bread without crusts a.k.a. my Mum always raided both crusts at the first opportunity and if it was nice fresh unsliced she would create more crusts but cutting bits off the top nice fresh bread didn't last long in our house nor did butter
