IrritableTech Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 We have been having issues since yesterday with Google blocking our web searches due to unusual traffic from "our" network, this only appears to be affecting our Windows 7 Machines. Within Internet explorer we receive an unlimited number of reCaptcha messages so cannot continue, within Chrome the reCaptcha is slightly different and does work after a minute or so of trying. The IP address specified within the error message is for Filter 17 so it's not necessarily our site that is causing the problem, as such I was just wondering if anyone else was having this issue (particularly on Filter 17). This has been logged with SB however I was just wondering is anyone had any ideas on why this would only be a Windows 7 Issue and of any possible work around? Sounds like you must be proxying google traffic then - otherwise google should see your schools public IP address. It'll depend on what other safeguards or monitoring systems you have in place whether you want to bypass the proxy for google or not. I guess that is for you to risk assess.
KevByrne Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 Thanks for your reply. Yes were passing google traffic through the Proxy Server as the transparent proxy can't interrogate SSL traffic. We have Impero as well but I wouldn't want to risk sending Google traffic without the full Proxy checking.
fiza Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Workaround would be to change your search provider to Bing (other search providers are also available) until this is resolved.
Blue_Cookeh Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Lightspeed 9 and 11 problems. AGAIN. I'm really not happy. We still have a year and a half to go on our contract and it's really starting to get on our staff's nerves. We moved away from LA provided broadband due to poor support thinking anything could be better, now we get downtime like this. Our school relies on our broadband since we rely on RM Integris, and now very heavily rely on Office365. I've shifted all our VPN activity for remote workers onto our backup line with another company now because SB is so unreliable. The only reason we're still with SB is because we're stuck in contract.
synaesthesia Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 There's a reason they're moving away from LS; I would suggest getting in touch and asking to be migrated to Netsweeper sooner rather than later.
Blue_Cookeh Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Yes - it's more annoying because 6 - 8 months ago we were told this was being solved "soon". Tbh I get that downtime happens, its just embarrassing from my POV because I was the one that recommended SB to our SLT
PrimaryNetMan Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Service is dire today this is what a 100Mb line looks like using SB filtering. Removing their router / filtering from the equation and it goes back to 100Mbps Regret going with them now, but at the time offered the most cost effective option for Chromebook filtering. You get what you pay for that's for sure. 1

rogerdnixon Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Securly (securly.com) offer free ChromeOS filtering and it's really very good. We use their paid for product for all our devices. Parents like the ability to control the offsite filtering and see what the little darlings are doing.
DeGrimmy Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Our primary school has just reported their connection has dropped out.
synaesthesia Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Our connection dropped for around 7 minutes too.

nathan Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Not sure if i should be talking about this but... We are due to move over at the beginning of the new year, i've been running a small trial and the throughput and reliability is far far better. 1

fiza Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Just had a long email from LightSpeed. Makes interesting reading, I won't post here but other SB customers will have got the same email. The blame game starts!
SchoolsBroadband Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Just had a long email from LightSpeed. Makes interesting reading, I won't post here but other SB customers will have got the same email. The blame game starts! you seriously couldn't write it could you? We'll respond in due course. As you can imagine we are not happy with the email that's just gone out and are considering our options as this has come out of the blue. We will be 100% supporting our existing Lightspeed and Netsweeper products as usual. I'll put on an official response in a new thread later. Thanks Dave 1

Makes interesting reading, I won't post here but other SB customers will have got the same email. The blame game starts! Me too. Made interesting reading if all of it is true. Weren't schoolsbroadband supposed to be upgrading to the newer version over the Christmas break? Edited February 1, 2018 by tj2419
Bob_the_Goon Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 We received the email too. Not sure who to believe. Dear me...
