KevByrne Posted November 17, 2017 Author Posted November 17, 2017 We use filter 17 and so far we appear to be working OK, albeit not at our full speed. A speed test on our 200Mb line is currently reporting around 145 Mbps download but only 62 Mbps up.
Nightshade2k Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Filter 7/8 i would not mind if there seemed like a light at the end of the tunnel, going to get the backup connection routed out of the core i think in the future so at least theres an alternative method for net traffic, way too reliant on O365 and Azure now to lose access in this way sadly, maybe SB will fix it by monday who knows! 1
fiza Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Our Primary School report that they are back up and running now.
fiza Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I think it will be fair to say once Lightspeed is gotten rid of, most of the issues will be a thing of the last. Don't hold it against them if they are being DDoS'd of course (not confirmed what the cause is yet) Are SB moving away from Lightspeed?
fiza Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Dave Tindall confirmed that in a group email back end of October yes. To be replaced by?
sister_annex Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Dave Tindall confirmed that in a group email back end of October yes. An email not everyone got by the looks of it... I found out through a 3rd Party Supplier...
Nightshade2k Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Well im waiting for my transfer to the netsweeper platform, to be honest the issue is they need to assign NOC engineers to fix the issue but they also require the same NOC engineers to do the transfers. Way back when in another life i use to run a team of engineers as part of BSF for Capita and so i understand the ITIL processes and service outcome they are progressing but none the less on the other side of that fence as much as fixing the main issue is important if there are workarounds that can be progressed to solve schools issues then thats also a good place to begin until the main fix is forthcoming and were not talking hours of disruption, were talking days i think in that respect there is only so much patience you can have. just to confirm this is not a DDOS attack its the latter 3 of the things i was told so a Mix of Lightspeed Issues/Patch days and their Core/Edge devices under strain, i just spoke to Carole Mawson so hoping that between her and Dave we can get a quick decision regarding the service as i dont think waiting to find out on Monday whether we can teach or email is acceptable not only to my mental health but to the teachers at the school to. as always fun times being a network manager
sister_annex Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Well certainly Lightspeed hasn't been up to the job and netsweeper is a more known quantity, so fingers crossed it alleviates the majority of issues. We moved away from NS when we moved from our LEA to SBB... we hated NS (Although LEA was using ancient version and from what I could tell we're not the best at managing it)... I know we can stick with Lightspeed for a while so I think our plan is to do that for now and see how well the NS migrations go.
Nightshade2k Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 The irony is our Kent LEA isnt bad at all for Broadband if a little restrictive in some areas (hence why we are with SBB) and they use lightspeed to serve a lot of kent schools being the big county that it is and we never had such issues with them so not sure why SBB struggle with this so much maybe they have more customers and LS doesnt scale as well either way whatever product is used as long as it works im happy! 1
SchoolsBroadband Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Hi all, we have hit record traffic levels over the last few days with Wednesday hitting over 30Gbit.. There have been some issues with Lightspeed but the biggest issue has been the huge amount of patches from different providers on the same days causing the traffic. A lot of schools have actually been maxing out their lines which hasn't helped issues. We have started to see a decline in traffic today and yesterday but we are still much higher than normal. I don't want to comment on filters at this stage but will do in the very near future. I'll get in touch with you all individually on this thread. Thanks Dave 1
FN-GM Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Schools Broadband have had issues since Tuesday 14th now were at friday 17th and the issues continue! and my school is effectively crippled, the issue being our backup line also goes through their core systems so if there core is crippled were doomed, since we are reliant on Office 365 4 days with unusable internet is like cutting ones arm off. Have been told several different things across the days. 1) its you not our end 2) its a DDOS 3) its the lightspeed filters not load balancing 4) its super patch day and everyone i cramming MS updates 5) its one of our Core Edge devices have spent pretty much most of my week getting key docs off of peoples onedrives its that bad using my tech teams combined might of 4G connections. As soon as we can leave i think its going to have to be back to the LEA. Option 4 is laughable.
Nightshade2k Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Positive chat was had with David, so there may be some light at the end of the tunnel! Carol and David are actually really helpful i feel if there is an issue its always best to maybe speak to them now as i get some spurious answers sometimes from the 1st line guys though i will comment a shout out to Sean and Jamie who were both extremely helpful on seperate days from SBB 1

SchoolsBroadband Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 On the whole no they weren't. Dave
Shadow_Walker Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) On the whole no they weren't. Dave I am hoping our issue is still related to this though. Will ring in Monday to speak to support again. Tried today but after 20 minutes on hold gave up. Edited November 17, 2017 by Shadow_Walker 1
synaesthesia Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Rarely had a bad experience with their support guys. Niall, Sean and Rob have all been top notch for us. Difficult to get things resolved when something big kicks off like these outages of course. 1
snagrat Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 My biggest issue with SB at the moment is that the account manager isn’t come back to me. Need some pricing now for a new school and not getting anything despite sending a few emails

PM'd, we'll have the quote with you asap. Dave
Edu-IT Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 An email not everyone got by the looks of it... I found out through a 3rd Party Supplier... News to me too...! Somebody perhaps spoke about it too soon.

Nightshade2k Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Monday Morning and the issue apparently is still affecting some schools due to the core thats technically 7 days (5 working) where we have been affected currently testing at 2.7 mbps down and 2.1 mbps up
Nightshade2k Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 We seem to be back to normal for now NOC has made a change as ive been told (i don't know what to comment at the moment) hope everyone else is now working
sted Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 yeah not been on this site since last monday but im getting ~90 up/down adn ive had complaints of it being bad last week
sippo Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Still very flakey for our 8 schools. We’ve been a loyal customer for approx. 7 years now, but the service is getting ridiculous. If it wasn’t for the price, I would certainly look at moving. When it works, it works well with some super speeds. It does seem to happen once a month though especially after patch Tuesday!
sister_annex Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Just airing on the positive side, we have had no issues, we're getting our paid for 200Mbps Up/Down (almost) and have had no filtering issues (we're on 17). 1
