How is your Windows 10 deployment going?

I am just wondering how your Windows 10 deployment is going? We got rid of our last Windows 7 machine a while back and I can't remember that last time I used Windows 7.

 

To be honest I haven't missed it at all.

Started re-imaging from Win 10 (original release) to Redstone. Redstone's much better, faster and more optimised.

I did look at the Win 10 November 2015 release, but it's a waste of time in my opinion. Redstone with the current November 2016 update is very fast in testing

Quite well with 1511. Still trying to get everything working that was in 1511. Then the hard bit deploying it out of hours and automated.

Just imaged my first office machine for someone today to Win10. So far all well after initial testing and tweaking (and lovely ClassicShell)

My techie keeps finding little things that I don't want in my builds that the students are able to do and I'm working on fixing one by one.

 

For example I'd rather they could n't right click the taskbar...but am struggling to find a way to stop that at present.

 

I might be in a position to maybe upgrade a few PC's in our library by Easter, at least then we can get some feedback and also the librarian and us can keep an eye on them remotely!

in a word, poorly.

We stuck it on a selection of office and resources room computers around the school and seem to have managed to get nearly every windows 10 problem going. I think we've nearly got everyone back to windows 7 now (which is a shame).

We're using the 2016 LTSB version now with windows-explorer-freezing and not-working-start-menu type issues for every user (apart from me)

 

We'll probably take another run at it come easter... or next summer... maybe.

Just the 3 Office Admin machines on Windows 7 now, all other machines are on Windows 10. Admin machines will be done at Feb half term by the latest I think.

I've got 4 left on windows 7, 3 of them that are in the Admin office, I've had one on windows 10 in there for a while to highlight any issues, the others can probably be upgraded but I just haven't had the time yet.

 

The only other remaining windows 7 machine is the one that controls out stage lighting, I'm too scared to upgrade that one in case the lighting system doesn't work after.

In order of hours spent at each school, highest first:

 

School 1: All machines apart from Office and those that were allowed to be retained by teachers at last laptop refresh on 8.1. Created and deployed W10 image to test on convertibles that don't work with touch screen on 8.1 and found that some of the redirected stuff/Start Menu doesn't work properly. Still investigating.

 

School 2: All student machines on 8.1, plus most others. Slowly moving from 7 when I can get access to laptops. The bulk of the machines were slower with 10 than 8.1 when tested. May move more capable machines to 10 when problems discovered at School 1 ironed out.

 

School 3: Mainly on 7, though any machines that need imaging going back out with 8.1. Windows 10? As School 2!

Yeah I could do but it doesn't really bother me that much as it only gets used 3 or 4 times a year

At the moment I have only installed Win 10 on staff laptops we've issued since the summer. I am currently working on builds for admin and curriculum machines, ticking off issues as I resolve them both in terms of the build process and GPO side of things. I'll start moving over admin offices in the new year, then suites from easter onwards. Originally had an LTSB build on the go but in the end decided it was preferable to go for Education and refine that for our use.

 

Biggest issue encountered so far was the update issues post 1607.

Full 100% rollout on every workstation, even bootcamped all the Apple workstations as well. Stayed on 1511, no major issues apart from a couple of black screens on logon. Login speeds around 30 secs on first and 10-15 subsequent. Using local profiles.

Pretty much 99% of machines here are Windows 10 1607 Education. A few admin office PCs are stuck on Windows 7 for now as I'm still sorting our PSF running on these properly but we're working on these at the moment.

 

Gone well - feed back very good. The only major blight at the moment is the whole Black Screen with Cursor after login issue that is well documented on here - no one has died and people have just got on with it.

 

Having SSDs across the entire site now has proved positive as well.
