USB Drives - Encryption or banned?
MrFrostmaul replied to tj2419's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Ban on all with ESET Device Control, apart from our photography computers for SD Cards etc. and certain USB's allowed for some staff. Laptops are encrypted with BitLocker and overall the USB ban was okay as we say use OneDrive and they don't really have an excuse. -
I've got one from 123Reg now. I'm following these instructions https://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Controller-less-WLANs/How-to-Create-a-Certificate-for-Instant-Captive-Portal-using/ta-p/277025 based on the adding the three parts into one file, but when uploading to the instant system I get this error: any ideas? thanks - never done this before with Aruba Instant..

Thanks, got one now and will try.

Hi all, I am trying to push out a certificate for our LightSpeed web filter to wireless devices (computers and owned devices fine with MDM to push), but at the stage of BYOD devices. I have a potential solution to have the certificate link on a captive portal page with login credentials to authenticate against RADIUS. I have the issue currently when using the internal captive portal the certificate is invalid and won't let the user load the portal or access the internet. I have tried self-signed certificates and free ones, but as the wireless system isn't external facing I can't verify the keys on some providers. Does anyone have a solution to this and mainly with Aruba Instant AP's for the SSL certificate on an internal captive portal (ideally for free) thanks

We had a similar issue last week. It turned out to be a DNS issue, with it working correctly.. even though manually entering it on the computer worked fine. Try putting the server IP address instead of server name, done the trick for us while we look into the name issue of it.

Just moved this week from Meraki to Airwatch and love it. Got everything automatic with user logon against AD and automatically pushes profiles, apps etc. based on year group OU's and staff OU's. Had so many issues with Meraki before. -

V5 activpanel not cloning display
MrFrostmaul replied to jon_nais's topic in Promethean Direct Support
We have had exactly same issue with support been able to resolve and been unable to resolve apart from startup script to set desktop to duplicate.. hdmi to board and VGA to computer monitor -
Yep, got them. The PCL6 driver needed the watermark at the top and not the bottom. All working. Thanks
-
Hello, I have this script edited from the main official one for students, but is not displaying the watermark on any pages by any user - including ones not in the NoWatermark security group. Most likely something stupid i've changed without realizing. Thanks function printJobHook(inputs, actions) { var ALLUSERS_GROUP = '[All Users]'; var STAFFNOWM_GROUP = 'Staff-PrintingNoWatermark'; if (inputs.user.isInGroup(ALLUSERS_GROUP)) { actions.job.setWatermark('Printed by %user% '); } if (inputs.user.isInGroup(STAFFNOWM_GROUP)) { actions.job.setWatermark(''); } }

Server Patching - Schedules & Automatic Reboots
MrFrostmaul replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in How do you do....it?
Auto install via WSUS, schedule install and reboot every Saturday at 3am if they need to. -
We given up with Microsofts constant changes and just use Office365 for email, OneDrive and a SharePoint site for staff.
-
Hello, We are looking into Onedrive more and wondering how we get our SharePoint site to appear in on the OneDrive app on the sites tab. We have the site promoted as users can see via SharePoint on the browser. Any ideas? Thanks
-
100% agreed - number 4 we get our SLT saying we hear there IT issues when the staff member never reported at all and just moaned to SLT about it.

We tried this tray next to ours and even with PaperCut so only they can print their own jobs, we still have a lot just left everywhere, never picked up.. PaperCut has defiantly saved us a lot and done 250,000 pages since 1st Jan. Well worth and now put the printed by watermark on bottom of first page of job so we know who leaves their waste.

What solution are you guys using for OS deployment these days?
MrFrostmaul replied to localzuk's topic in O/S Deployment
WDS default Windows 7 Enterprise (64bit) and then PDQ to deploy all software (have created a master package with all the individual software packages within). Works well and for our size does the job. -
Promethean V2 boards work good for us with 0 issues in 2 years. However our V4 boards are rubbish, always having issues with display, touch etc.
-
Thanks, got it working through cups.

Hi, We have just purchased a set of iMac's for our music department and all is working well with our Windows network apart from printing.. On the iMac, we can add the printer (drivers installed for mac), connect to the shared printer via Open Directory and send the job successfully, the Windows 2012 R2 server receives it and sends it off it seems, but nothing ever comes out of the printer, with no errors or information in event viewer. Has anyone come across this before? - Also for debugging, does anyone know free software which I can run from my computer and listen/capture the IP address of the printer to see if there is any data actually being sent to the printer? Thanks

Staff IT Usage Policies - for new staff
MrFrostmaul replied to genesis's topic in Learning Network Manager
Before we give all students and staff their logon details we make sure our AUP's are signed and returned - Works here as one more click to something and there's outrage. -
Just imaged my first office machine for someone today to Win10. So far all well after initial testing and tweaking (and lovely ClassicShell)
-
We share all our printers via GPP on a user level under preferences - control panel settings, with item level targeting for network and local USB shared and works well for Win 7 and started Win 10 roll-out and so far all working same.
