Youtube - Who has access to it?

Who can get onto Youtube at your school? Interested if you allow everyone or from years X or no students.

 

For us it is Teachers and then select Sixth Form students with parental permission.

Those allowed have to authenticate for access to extra sites (LGFL)

We limit YouTube access to staff only. Some of our students find ways around the blocks and I do like to find out how they've done that so I can plug the gap.

 

As you say, staff have to authenticate themselves to gain access to YouTube. We have set up our systems to allow the PCs at the front of each class, that a teacher uses, to have access to YouTube without the staff member needing to authenticate themselves. We have a specified range of static IP addresses that the teacher PCs use and this range is allowed access to YouTube without needing LGFL authentication.

Just Teachers and KS5. It was a big problem with students watching restricted videos using accounts that they had created at home.

In the Primary, only Teachers and Staff.

 

In the Secondary, all users as it was desided by key teaching staff that it is a great resource and if students misuse it they get an Internet ban (well, restricted to pre-defind Educational sites). Though since we had Impero the teachers are able to ban YouTube if they so wish.

Wow, apparently we are quite liberal here:

 

Students: Allowed with safe mode enforced.

Staff: Allowed no safe mode restrictions.

 

Comments and auto play disabled for everyone.

Only 1 person can whitelist videos here - me, after they've each been reviewed by both myself and my line manager. This was as a result of an incident that happened a few years ago, so we went all our dictatorship on it sadly, but we've gotta protect ourselves!

We use Impero to control access to it based on AD membership. On occasion we get requests to unblock for a particular year group for things like media studies (Yr11 & Y10).

It's blocked by our LEA as is a lot of other things that don't really make any sense.

Everyone has access here. Students get restricted mode, staff unrestricted. Staff can approve restricted videos (and now playlists) as required.

Everyone has access.

Students get restricted YouTube. If they sign in with their Office365 creds they get restricted + videos specifically authorised by any member of staff.

Staff are also on restricted YouTube. If they sign in with their Office365 creds they get unrestricted and they are able to authorise videos for the whole organisation.

 

YouTube is considered a critical resource, and there are many course which contain instructions 'gathering evidence from the internet including sites such as Wikipedia and YouTube, critically evaluate....'

That Bing vs Google images thing is a bit of an odd legacy of when Bing images was useless at filtering out naughty things. They pretty much resolved this a logn while ago though. On the other hand, Google Image search seems to not be as good at filtering as Bing is now!

Yeah Bing did used to be a bit... well lets just not go there. But it seems our local LEA hasn't really caught up with the times and so many random keywords and websites which could be useful for education are blocked. (there are ways around this, but I'm on the only one that does it)

 

I do prefer Bing over Google most of the time unless I'm doing a very specific search, but still when the schools "Kids Search" uses Bing it's a bit of a pain when they can't look at images
