sparkeh Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Over the Xmas holidays the PO had to respond to a burglar alarm being triggered. He performed all the usual checks and everything seemed fine until he got to the office and saw all the box files had been thrown off the shelf and onto the floor... No sign of anyone being in the school and the distance they went was too far for them just falling off for some reason. Really spooky. 1
Duranis Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 lol the thing is one of the tv's was an old 15inch "tube" tv and didn't have a remote. Also more than once it happened when nobody was in the room. I have always thought maybe an electrical problem with the wiring in the room but to do the same thing to multiple tv's spread out over about 18 years is pretty odd.

sparkeh Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 No CCTV throughout the school to view? Not internally no. Though we are thinking of rigging something up.
Zer0 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Not internally no. Though we are thinking of rigging something up. Shame. But CCTV internally has been useful for when we've been broken into. Not sure if the Police caught them though but provided them with some good footage. Not caught anything spooky. Well, besides the lift opening its door at 2am. Could just see a big bright light from it (since the door were facing away from the camera). People claim to hear footsteps when no one else is around, but I've not seen/heard anything unfortunately.

Not sure if the Police caught them though but provided them with some good footage... O/T: We had an intruder who looked directly into one of our cameras so we got him full face. The image appeared on Crimewatch with all relevant details but he was never found. That night he stripped 30 PCs of their CPUs and their RAM. Back on topic.
Popular Post AMLinington Posted January 30, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 30, 2017 It's not a school related story, but I have a couple of 'strange encounters' to share: Some background first, though. My Maternal line immigrated from Ireland a few generations back, (I believe my Great Grandmother was an infant when they moved, or born shortly after arrival here) and have always claimed to 'have a touch of the fae'. Something I didn't really take seriously, because it was mostly superstitious-sounding stories spouted by my Nan's slightly batty youngest Sister and the other attention seeking sister my Nan didn't speak to much (she was from a big Irish family - my Nan had several siblings that survived childhood and a couple that didn't - bearing in mind my Nan was born in the 1920s...). But over the years there have been odd things that have happened to, or been experienced by, me that suggests my maternal line might not be entirely batty... Bear with me because these are a bit lengthy in the telling: 1) First off, when I was a baby (as-in pre-talking, not-old-enough-for-imaginary-friends) I used to gravitate to a certain corner and giggle, laugh, and play with 'something'. It used to freak my mum out. But babies are babies and you can't really use that as conclusive proof. Growing up (and even now) I HATE being alone in my parents house. It was a new build in the 1970's, my Dad bought it from-new, but it was built in an area with a Tumulus. On Ordnance Survey maps, there was a 'Tumulus' marked at the end of the road, and there is a 'hill' that no-one uses. It's not explicitly 'Out of bounds' and there are no signs up. It's a perfect place for residents and kids to play, walk their dogs, have outdoor parties because it's surrounded by trees on one side and a path on the other in front of a row of houses. But I've never seen ANYONE walk on it. Ever. I've tried a few times and I can't bring myself to actually walk across it. Even when it's covered in Snow, it's the only patch of ground in the neighbourhood where the snow stays untouched until it melts. As I got older, there was a 'presence' in the house that felt increasingly hostile. Things would go missing until you demanded that 'the ghost' return them. Being alone in that house fills me with irrational terror. I assumed it was me being stupid, and when I bought my own house and moved in, I expected to feel the same way when I have to spend the night alone in my current house (a much MUCH older 1950's home - not even remotely new-build). To my surprise, I feel nothing at all. The home I grew up in should feel safe and secure. I've never had any bad experiences there (unless you count puberty ;-) ) but being on my own there is is terrifying. It's only gotten worse as I've aged. We have a theory that whatever the 'presence' is, it 'liked' me when I was a child because I could interact with it, but it's grown increasingly hostile perhaps through frustration because we grew up. Just before my Sister's baby was born, stuff started going missing again. We think the ghost is excited that a new child is visiting the house. But this is entirely based on circumstantial and arbitrary things like 'feelings'. 2) When I was at Primary school, I had a friend I used to meet at break time - Carina. I assumed she was in another class in the next year group down because I never saw her in the areas where our year had their classrooms. She was my best friend and we'd play together all the time. One year our school was doing some diversity stuff and decided, as a school, we would celebrate Diwali. Basically the whole school went Diwali-mad with an entire day of crafts and activities devoted to learning about, and sharing in, Diwali. Part of this was basically that all rules about staying in your 'classroom area' went out the window and children were allowed to move to other classrooms to hand out Diwali cards and share crafts and stuff with their friends. So I carefully prepped a bunch of stuff for Carina and went looking for her. Assuming she was the next year down from me, I went to the year 3/4 classrooms and asked all the teachers where Carina was. They had no idea who I was talking about. Long story short, I went to every single classroom in the school and not a single teacher even knew who Carina was. After that day, I never saw her again. I assumed she was one of the many kids that joined us for a term or two then disappeared (I realise now that these were likely to be the children of travellers or diplomats). People I speak to assume I had an imaginary friend, but it doesn't make sense to me that she would ONLY exist during break time at school, and not come home with me. Even now I'm convinced she WAS real, but perhaps not ALIVE. I was reminded of this story when I was helping my parents clear some clutter from their attic. My Mum is a sentimental hoarder so she kept all the crappy work we'd done at school and I came across all the cards and crafts with 'To Carina, Happy Diwali, Love (Me)' in my handwriting. It definitely happened. I asked my Mum about it and she doesn't recall me ever being friends with a girl called 'Carina', but it was right there, in my handwriting. 3) My pièce de résistance, though, is the legit scary thing I did at my cousins wedding. My Sister and I were bridesmaids, and the ceremony took place in a church in Harrow with a massive Graveyard (because: London). I vividly remember there being a Looooooooong, slightly downhill gravel driveway through the graveyard lined with trees of varying ages and sizes. After the ceremony we're all standing around outside the church while all the formal photos were being taken and I noticed a bunch of people loitering behind the trees. I remember thinking it was odd because some of them had lacy parasols and 'frilly dresses' and I wondered why they didn't come up the hill. So I happened to be standing next to my aunt (Mother of the Bride) and said to her 'Aunty, who are those ladies behind the trees'. So my Aunt looks down this driveway and says to me 'which ladies?' 'The ones in the frilly dresses with the parasols', says me. 'Oh, they must be people who just want to catch a glimpse of the bride', she says. Me being a kid thought nothing of it and went on my merry way. It was only a couple of decades later that I heard the truth. Apparently my aunt had looked down at where I was pointing and seen nothing but trees. She asked my Mum who agreed: Nothing but trees. I'd been ill recently so they passed it off as hallucinations from the Calpol and Penicillin (to which I'm actually allergic). Thinking nothing further of it, my cousin and her husband went off on their honeymoon. While they were away, the photographer delivered the proofs (this was back in the days of rolls-of-film-and-ugly-90's-photo-albums). We happened to be over for Sunday dinner and my Aunt got the proofs out. Flicking through them, there were several of this beautiful picturesque driveway. Immediately I jumped up and said 'SEE, I TOLD YOU THERE WERE PEOPLE THERE', pointing at these pictures. Nothing but trees. It still freaks my family out to this day. One day I'll get another look at that album. I'd be interested to find out if I still see the people - it was such a clear event to me. I still see them in my memory. One woman in particular had a massive hat and was wearing a frothy peach-coloured gown. I remember them vividly. The gown was similar to this but had more layers in the skirt and she was wearing a huge hat that looked like it had feathers in - which is why I thought she was a guest: http://s24.postimg.org/cjnfzkd1h/940849_526245167545614_4151961079657689727_n_jpg.jpg So yeah, weird stuff happens to me. My family reckon I've inherited the 'Fallon Fae' ;P 6
Joanne Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 OMG I love it @AMLinington you are definitely perceptive. I don't think I am! 1
Katy Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 One part of the school was originally the headmaster's house (1908 build), with family bedrooms on the first floor and servants on the 2nd (loft) floor. The top floor definitely feels like something is up there but never had anything strange go on, I think people have died in that building though but I don't suppose it was uncommon for death at home all those years ago. When I'm working late for a function in the main hall the worst part of the trip to the nearest toilet is that you walk down a small corridor which used to be the family bathroom, into what was originally the family toilet. Very spooky at night. There's also supposed to have been a pupil commit suicide in one of the chemistry labs years ago but again could just have been a teacher making it up. It is spooky on your own in the dark though, in all the older parts of the building. Used to work at a night club which was originally a garage, the owner in the 1920s or so supposedly committed suicide (hanging from the rafters) and is supposed to haunt the place. The boss claims he has been in on his own and things have been thrown across the bar, or come down when he was in the office on his own to find all the beer taps had turned themselves on... again he could just be winding us all up. One of the bar maids lived in the flat next door though and is convinced she heard footsteps up the stairs to the boss's office through the wall, at times when the building was completely empty. Ghost is/was called Harold. Building has since been demolished and replaced with new council offices, wonder if they've noticed anything odd? 1

mikkydoos Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Couple of years ago I was running some CAT5 through the basement at school. Its a Victorian building so underneath are tunnels that used to be heating ducts from the coal fired boilers. You can crawl through and then into large voids - bit like a pyramid. I'm there with my phone torch, on my own, pitch dark... there's a tunnel to my right. I shine the torch down. What do I see six feet in front of me......? Highlight below A LIFE SIZED PAPER MACHE MAN SITTING AT A DESK, BIG PAINTED BLACK FACE, HUGE WHITE EYES, WEARING AN OLD COAT STARING RIGHT AT ME POINTING HIS FINGER. Poo should have come out. I almost actually sh@t myself. I must take someone (victim) down there and see him again! Edited February 10, 2017 by mikkydoos 4
davyboi Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Ooh nicely done! Done a few bits in our time too! Two abandoned military forts, a church, a lime works, two cement factories, an underground 'thing', a school... lost track now! I ALMOST put a thread up but, given the tenuously legal side of things (civil trespass mostly) I'm not sure any mods would have thanked me for it. I might stick a few pics in the photographer's thread of our 'adventures' though. My gf is quite good with a camera. What gave me the 'bug' was, when I was younger (and this is no joke) we used to live near an old mental hospital and, in the woods nearby, was the ruined mansion house of the once-director. My dad used to take me exploring there, and made me promise NEVER to go into there if he wasn't around, and CERTAINLY not to the basement. To our credit we never did, though we sometimes cycled up to it. Creepy as hell. Long gone now but I did keep a stone from the marble floor in the hallway. Think I still have that! Of course, when exploring, leave only footprints and take only pictures and so on. Anyway I'm off-topic now. I used to study in Canterbury which is very near Pluckley (Google that) and we'd go on occasional ghost-safaris there. Hopefully we didn't bother any locals who are doubtless sick as hell of people doing that. First time I went must have been summer of 2001. We took a camera into the graveyard there and heard/recorded some weird noises that gave us the creeps and made us sprint for it! I have also done a bit of Urbex'ing, couple of hospitals, factories a courthouse. Perhaps its worth a separate thread for us to post some pics up? (if the Mods allow it of course)

That reminds me when Pete and I went into an old paper mill and went into the basement. It was pitch black (in bright saturday summer afternoon sunshine) and we kept hearing strange noises and we were convinced we weren't alone, so quickly left and then came back with backup!
AMLinington Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 The problem with exploring abandoned or empty buildings, is that the few spoil it for the many - vandals and careless idiots spoil things by setting fires or trashing the place, or leaving rubbish. This in turn forces councils/owners/someone to reinforce access points. Case in point: Fort Gilkicker - super fun to 'break into' and explore (read: walk through a giant hole in the fence) until some morons decided to set some fires and try to burn this historic building! Now the fences have all been replaced and reinforced. Thanks muppets. 1
Bompalompalomp Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Got to explore a bunch of old abandoned sites when I was 10-13 when my mom was a security guard. Weirdest one was the old abandoned factory she let me walk around where in one room there was a makeshift firepit and a pile of "magazines" left there. The firepit couldn't have been more than a few days old... 1
6Foot2 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Link: The 'haunted' road motorists are too afraid to drive down - Mirror Online There is a ghostly road that many drivers would prefer not to travel. On it, windscreen wipers suddenly stop working, cars lock and unlock themselves, radios switch off, or ramp up unexpectedly... and ghoulish apparitions reportedly appear under cover of darkness. The stretch is Wakehurst Parkway, a winding road that connects Seaforth to Narrabeen in New South Wales. It's not far from Sydney – but a little off the beaten track. Crashes are not infrequent. It has a murderous past... 2
witch Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 A friend was staying in a local hotel for some months due to a flood in her home. She woke up one night and there was a man standing at the bottom of the bed. She described him as having long hair, a loose waistcoat and baggy trousers. She dived under the covers and when she looked again he was gone. She laughingly mentioned it to the staff the next day - thinking they would laugh - and they looked at her and described him! This was the Bridge House Hotel at Longham, Dorset 1
DrPopkorne Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) Might be a bit interesting for you urbex bods... me and my dad do WW2 reenactments, and got invited to stay with some German reenactors in an old great war era fortification in Mysen, Norway. It was used by the Germans as a field hospital during occupation and isn't generally open to the public so a lot of it was untouched since the second world war. There's still some wartime era boxes and furniture laying around. Underneath there are tunnels for miles so we were advised not to explore too far on our own. Anyway, it's not really a ghost story but the whole place reeked of an uncomfortable air. Yes it gave you chills although it was winter in Norway.. there was a little talk of the place being haunted and so as you do a few of us lads went exploring the complex.. all sorts of giant cannons, pillboxes but as you got deeper there were creepy winding rooms and pits.. tens of meters underground we eventually found this metal door that opened into what was basically a cave, already ringing alarm bells we had a little venture in but didn't want to go too far off the beaten track (plus the place was dead scary. one of the rooms was apparently an old outhouse but the wood had all rotted and it looked like a scene out of silent hill). One of the lads got a bit spooked and wanted to head back. Arriving back the door we had previously opened to get in (and it's a big heavy door) was closed shut. We really struggled to get it back open without a group effort and the young one in the group swore he felt a presence. We all rushed back to civilization lol. Edited June 19, 2017 by DrPopkorne 1
Joanne Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 I think I might have to start making a travel list for places like this. Might have to have a look on YouTube and see if anyone else has visited it!! You got any more pictures @DrPopkorne ?
