My office was off one of the main IT suites. One time during the holidays I was sitting in my office working when a cat walked in through the door, looked at me, turned round and walked out. I followed the cat out into the classroom to find it had completely vanished. Both of the entrance doors into the classroom were shut and there was nowhere for it to hide.

Love a bit of Urbex.

Ooh nicely done! Done a few bits in our time too! Two abandoned military forts, a church, a lime works, two cement factories, an underground 'thing', a school... lost track now! I ALMOST put a thread up but, given the tenuously legal side of things (civil trespass mostly) I'm not sure any mods would have thanked me for it.

I might stick a few pics in the photographer's thread of our 'adventures' though. My gf is quite good with a camera.

What gave me the 'bug' was, when I was younger (and this is no joke) we used to live near an old mental hospital and, in the woods nearby, was the ruined mansion house of the once-director. My dad used to take me exploring there, and made me promise NEVER to go into there if he wasn't around, and CERTAINLY not to the basement. To our credit we never did, though we sometimes cycled up to it. Creepy as hell. Long gone now but I did keep a stone from the marble floor in the hallway. Think I still have that! Of course, when exploring, leave only footprints and take only pictures and so on.

Anyway I'm off-topic now. I used to study in Canterbury which is very near Pluckley (Google that) and we'd go on occasional ghost-safaris there. Hopefully we didn't bother any locals who are doubtless sick as hell of people doing that. First time I went must have been summer of 2001. We took a camera into the graveyard there and heard/recorded some weird noises that gave us the creeps and made us sprint for it!

Lad Bible posted a story about this place, so I googled it...

'We spent the night in Hull's scariest house - and saw this face' | Hull Daily Mail

You can visit this house - and many others via this website - Phantasmic Paranormal Events - Haunted House Ghost Walks - Ghost Hunters

I am so going to do this! Some of the places look really cool!!

I'm in Hull.. never been to this house though. Quite a bit of history behind it.

But I might add, if you'd like to visit the house in De-Gray street it will cost you a mere 65 spondoolies.

£65?! I don't know what is more scary, the ghosts or the price... ;)

Says £45 on the website. I'd totally pay it. Only problem with companies like this, you kinda think it could be setup.

Listen to this: BBC - Radio4 - Excess Baggage - Haunted

I remember hearing it live in 2004 and it fair sent shivers down my spine. I can't remember where in the show the voice is but you can't miss it!

Unfortunately can't play it back. The ra file doesn't seem to be able to access the ram file on their servers. :(

Well doubt is healthy. I would love to go to one of these places, unfortunately no one I know is really interested in this, and I would prefer not to go alone. ;)

Last I'd heard the company had changed it to 65, looks like its 45 again.

I have it ready to watch... I got too distracted by Streets Of Rage on my arcade machine!

Ah. OK. I might have another film for you after Grave Encounters.

Grave Encounters 2? That came up but I stopped myself from downloading it ;)

No not that. Risking an 'Off Topic' notification I can tell you that the film I have in mind is 'Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings' It is a bit of a teen slasher movie, but it continues the theme of spooky abandoned buildings.

There is a full write-up with spoilers aplenty here:

Link 1: Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings [Wikipedia. Note: Includes spoilers and how the film ends]

IMDB has a shorter summary:

Link 2: Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings (2011) - IMDb

A group of college students gets lost in a storm during their snowmobiling trip, and takes shelter in an abandoned sanatorium, which is the home of deformed cannibals.

Back on topic: I remember walking down a lane that used to run behind my parents house along fields on one side up to another small row of houses with a park behind. The first in this row of houses had been unoccupied for many years. On the day I am now recalling something in an upstairs window caught my eye. When I looked again I saw a distorted face at the window (somebody wearing a mask?) I am ashamed to say that I was so surprised by the sight of the face I ran.

The lane has now been re-routed and several of the houses have been knocked down. Flats stand there now.

Wandering through York one night with mrs sparkeh and we walked past a big old house that looked derelict and marked for demolition. I looked up at the top window and said "erm...is that someone standing in the window looking at at us?" mrs sparkeh peered up and said "..er..yes..shall we be going now...?" Our pace picked up significantly until we were well away from the house. Makes me shiver thinking about it.

That only works with corporeal beings... ;)

An office door would bother Sutekh:

...The forces that are being summoned into corporeal existence in that house are more powerful and more dangerous than anything even I have ever encountered...
