Anyway I'm off-topic now. I used to study in Canterbury which is very near Pluckley (Google that) and we'd go on occasional ghost-safaris there. Hopefully we didn't bother any locals who are doubtless sick as hell of people doing that. First time I went must have been summer of 2001. We took a camera into the graveyard there and heard/recorded some weird noises that gave us the creeps and made us sprint for it!

I know Pluckley well as its less than 20 minutes away from me.

Once I was driving back from the Pub in Pluckley and had a couple of friends in car too. We saw a figure walking in the road and as we got closer the figure slowly faded.

Personally I have:

*Seen a dead friend of mine

*At my last school heard noises of children running about in what used to be the school caretakers house up till late 1800s but was turned into offices. I heard the noises one holiday when I was the only one on site and in the building.

*Had a pair of hands rest on my back whilst just standing talking to people.

*Seen things in a graveyard as I was passing through it

*felt very uncomfortable when I was in an old Pub I visited with some friends, Did some digging and ghosts have been spotted there.

I'm a lot more skeptical than I used to be but still love spooky stories and unexplained encounters. Have had a few strange things happen myself, especially in the house I grew up in.

Most recent "odd" thing was a few years ago. Me and my Mrs were walking to the car parked near our house when we noticed a strange black object floating along above the path about 20ft up and maybe 100ft in front of us. It was solid black and maybe 1-2ft across and very thin (5mm-1cm at most), roughly square/rectangle shaped. We both noticed it and couldn't make out what it was. First thoughts were that it was a plastic bag floating in the wind (despite the fact it was a summer day and there was very little breeze). As we got closer it carried on floating down the road at a slow pace. Even when I was stood directly under it (so it was only about 10-14ft above me) I could not make out any details other than it was black, thin and rectangular. It didn't make any noise and it continued hovering at the same height. We watched it float all the way down the road for about 10 minutes and over some house during all this time it moved at the same slow speed and didn't rapidly change height once (like it would if it was just something caught by the wind).

I really regret never having taken photo's or video of it as it was the strangest thing I have ever seen. At the time though we both kind of thought we would figure out what it was any minute and it wouldn't really be a big deal (you don't get your phone out to take a photo of a floating carrier bag...). It was only afterwards when we both realised we had no clue what we had just seen that I thought about pictures.

When I was growing up as a kid the house I lived in had quite a lot of strange stuff happen in it. Some of the highlights:

One time I was having a shower and 5p "fell" from somewhere into the bath at my feet. There was no shelves that someone could have left 5p on and nowhere it could have come from. I did say thank you and asked if they had any more.

Tv's used to switch channels and turn on and off when I was around all the time. More than one type of TV over a period of a few years did this.

You could leave a room and come back moments later to find cupboards/drawers open.

Once I was building a new PC and was having problems with it crashing constantly. I had been working on it for quite some time and couldn't find what the issue was. The doorbell rang so I went to answer it and there was nobody there (this happened on a fairly regular basis). When I went back to the computer (which had been turned off at the time) it was turned on and in one of the bios settings for system voltages where one of them had been set wrong (I had forgot to change it when I had been doing some overclocking). To get to this setting would have taken several keystrokes and it wasn't an automatic thing. I said thank you for the help :)

Talking of doorbells they used to go off by themselves all the time (multiple models of doorbell tried over a period of years). The worst one was a battery operated wireless one that was supposed to just go "ding dong". However any time there was lightening it would go off by itself and play Greensleeves instead. Creepy as hell when it happens at 4am in the morning.

(Sounded a lot like this:

)

Things went missing all the time and would turn up in unexpected places (like keys going missing from the key hook and turning up in the middle of a pile of folded towels). I was given a silver cross on a chain from a relative once as a kid and was swinging it around messing about with it in my room. I accidentally let go and saw the direction it went in but I never saw it land (in what would have been an open space). That cross and chain were never found despite me spending a long time looking for it for fear of getting told off for losing an expensive gift. Even after the room was completely emptied later to be redecorated it was never found.

Very often at night I used to stay up late to watch TV as a kid/Teen and would hear people walking down the stairs only for there to be nobody there and everyone else to be in bed asleep.

I once saw the shadowy outline of someone standing in the corner of the bedroom when I was in bed with the lights out. Another time when I was in bed with the lights out I saw 2 red "lights" about a 1ft above a unit (where there was no electrical items with lights on and no reflective surfaces). It looked like 2 red LEDS (actually to me it look like 2 red glowing eyes and scared the crap out of me).

When I was very young (maybe between 8-10) I have memories of hearing people talking "in the walls" as if there was a loud conversation happening in the next room, even when everyone else in the house was in the same room as me.

Now I'm writing it down I'm remembering a lot of other little things that happened over the years but will leave it there for now unless anyone wants to hear them. My mum and my nephew still live there and apparently nothing has really happened since I moved out over 10 years ago. Despite the fact there is a fairly long list of strangeness I still don't really believe in "ghosts" and think most of it probably had a logical explanation.

@Duranis post has made me think back to when I was a kid. 2 things stick out:

  1. Not scary just weird: when I was a teen I used to play D&D a lot with my brother and his mates in his bedroom. Weirdly a lot of pencils and erasers just vanished in a ridiculous fashion (ie write something, put pencil down, go to pick pencil up and its gone). It became a joke but we went through boxes and boxes of pencils and erasers. When my brother went off to uni I got his room and we joked about the number of pencils and erasers we would find when we cleared the room to decorate. We found...0. Just weird.
  2. When I had a bedroom next to my mum and dad's room I used to wake up quite regularly due to the "chink chink" noise of money being counted in the next room (my dad collected small change in big bottles in the room and every so often we would count it all out to see how much we had). I could hear the money being poured out, counted and put back in the glass bottles. Thought it a bit odd but never gave it any thought until I woke up, heard the noise, then heard my mum and dad chatting downstairs. Suddenly the noise was terrifying as I knew nobody was in that room. Next day I asked my dad if he ever counted the money at night and he said "No" :S

I always enjoy these things. :D

So a few years back, me and my friends went on a ghost walk in the London Dungeons (when it was still under the arches at London Bridge Station). This was from 11pm until about 5am, was a long night. While you could hear footsteps above from the station and the trains etc. I can remember at one point, we was all in a darkened room and someone had to leave, we are all being super quiet and then set off the screaming people in the Fire of London part that was there, I have never seen so many people jump in my life.

There is always the local story up here of the Blue Bell Hill Hitchhiker Ghost that does the rounds every now and again, but personally I have never experienced anything more than being completely scared in a building. Our old building was awful at 3am but never more than a feeling.

Got round to watching Grave Encounters last night. On my own. Really liked it until it got silly. Also think they could have done better with the digital interference bits.

I haven't shared the stories I have been told.

Story 1: my grandads twin brother was walking through Towneley Park ( http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/bygones/9127805.Tormented_souls_roam_historic_haunted_Townley_Hall/?ref=arc ) late at night with his dog. He was walking along the path when his dog started growling and barking at a bush. Then a white figure came out from the bush and moved across the path about a foot off the floor. Apparently he legged it back to his local pub for a drink because he was so terrified.

Story 2:

(Bit of back story - my mum was killed when I was 18 months old and I was raised by my g'ma and g'dad)

My g'ma used to redecorate the house all the time. A firm favourite room refresher was this sticky back plastic stuff called fablon. There were a few layers of it in the bathroom and she was struggling away trying to get it off. Apparently, she heard my mum say 'grab the corner and pull'. So she did. The walls worth all came off in one piece. Creepy.

Happened again this morning!

A TA came in early to setup for breakfast club. She was just leaving the kitchen when *CRASH* she turned round and a handful of knives had been thrown across the counter towards her. :S

That's pretty dangerous. Might be worth getting a priest in if knives are being thrown!

Indeed. Getting a bit concerned now. I have suggested putting a camera up!

That was a beautiful video. Loved the music too. Surprised at how many films from the 70's I had seen!

I loved that too. Some absolute crackers in there :)

Part of the school buildings that I work in date back to the 1500s, my office is in the old building on the ground floor and our server cabs are up on the 3rd floor.

The school used to be a private school and the servers are homed in the old bedroom quarters, we had a powercut one night due to heavy storms, I went up to check on the servers at around 11pmish, the wind was blowing through the building, really did feel like something was up there, had no indication that there was anything there but definately didnt feel alone!

I now call that the night of the nopes.

"Where have you been, you was only supposed to be taking the dog for a walk and that was 6 hours ago?"

"Well love, you wont believe it but I was just walking the dog and I saw a ghost! I was so scared I ran to the first safe place I could, which just happened to be a pub..."

I get spooked when I check the internal CCTV and something triggers it off at odd hours in the morning, it's usually just bugs or something but you have that trepidation as you watch... I usually tell everyone that it's a ghost though :)

My dad came over the other week and saw my tarot cards. I laughed and said it's nonsense, but it fascinates me. He told me a story about when him and some friends got hold of an Ouija board.

He said he won't ever mess with things he doesn't know about and left it at that.

Now I want an Ouija board!
