I used to be a real cynic about these kind of things but after hearing such weird things while working here I'm a bit more open minded. Apparently, in the 50s a girl died here during a minor procedure carried out by the mobile dentist (odd idea in itself). One of our cleaners who is in her 80s and been involved in the school in one way or another for most of her life (pupil, parent, cleaner etc) says she has regularly sees this girl around the school. Others have reported seeing a similar girl over the years too and the residents over the road have rang the police a few times as they claim to have seen someone moving around the school at night. Today we discovered that a fair few members of the staff have experienced the same event in the same part of the school, a loud rapping at the window and laughing but when you go and investigate there is nothing there (and CCTV shows nothing). Very creepy. Numerous times during the holidays we have scoured the school for intruders due to these kind of noises but find nothing. Most annoyingly for the Premises Manager the alarm in that area keeps going off in the night with no obvious cause, the alarm company keep looking at it but say they don't know why it comes on either. Recently I experienced the scariest episode when, in the same part of the school, I heard a loud gasp coming from upstairs and loud banging, like chairs were being thrown around. I ran upstairs but nothing was there. So anyone got any experiences to share? Edited November 10, 2014 by sparkeh
eyetea Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Today I got a bit freaked out... A teacher came in that was able to remember the error code! I must admit I am a cynic about this kind of stuff - I've never seen / heard / experienced anything myself and I'm sure I'll remain cynical about it until / if I do. Doesn't mean I get a little scared when walking around here in the dark!

In the summer holidays the whole school was getting new floor put down so they screened the floor from the third floor down to the ground floor. Obviously once the floor was wet nobody went up their. The a few days later their was noises coming from the third floor so the site manager went to have a look when he got up their there was nothing but 2 tiny foot prints in the floor the size of a childs foot. A few times when I was their strange things would happen. I remember turning the lights off in the ICT room then I realised I left a computer on walked to the back of the class to shut it down and then the lights in the class turned themselves back on. 1

CAM Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) My previous school is a very old building, there were stories a ghost called The Grey Lady who would often be blamed for anything strange like stuff falling from office desks when no-one is around. I never saw any evidence of her but everyone seemed convinced she existed. My current school we have the whole school photos from decades past on the wall. One just down the hall from my office has who I assume is a contractor in the window whilst the entire school is outside. It's a bit faded but the older students are convinced it is a ghost (because everyone is outside for the photo) and perpetuate the myth by pointing it out to the younger students. I get groups from Year 7 right up to Year 13 huddled round the photo saying "Look, there's the ghost!" Edited November 10, 2014 by CAM 1
bossman Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 We apparently have a ghost of sorts and it walks the corridors at night, I have been here on all night sessions when required, just recently had a 24 hour session to recover a SAN outage which resulted in most of the admin services failing. I didn't encounter any ghost or spirit of any sort so I am a little sceptical, other members of staff especially the cleaning staff have reported sightings of various kinds of spooky events over the years. witch Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Part of one of my schools was built in 17-something and is supposed to have a ghost. I, and others, have felt something down in the old building and there are odd noises - but that could just be the bats! 1

woodham Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I feel left out we don't have any ghosts., however just about every theatre I have ever worked in is alleged to be haunted and you always get random noises in them when rigging late at night
Garacesh Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Nope.. No 2Spooky4Me event here. I've never heard any ghost stories about the building, either. Maybe I should start one? Fool some of the Y7 kids each year whilst we're doing mass-fingerprinting and let the stories trickle 'up' the years until they perpetuate themselves.. It would only take 3-7 years, depending on how gullible the kids were.. With regards to the supernatural in general.. I'd like to believe.. I think we'd all take a little comfort in the knowledge that death isn't just 'the end'. I'd like to. But I don't. Too sceptical.

But having been in the school more or less on my own, in the dark, waiting for the power to come back on after a big outage so I can bring the servers up before the morning... it is difficult to maintain cynicism in the darkness. I stopped shining my torch into empty classrooms through the door windows after only a couple of minutes, my imagination was getting the better of me!

Anyway in the house building I have heard a child laughing very early in the morning when nobody except myself and the site manager was in. The child has also been seen sitting on the stairs by our new bursar late at night before she was told about the child. There is a story that a child died falling down the stairs but the child has been seen/heard all over the old school house. 1
3s-gtech Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 There are ghost stories about our school - various happenings later on etc. Having spent a number of later evenings here in the dark, on my own etc, I have neither seen nor heard any evidence of anything unusual in many years of being here. I'm a sceptic when it comes to anything like this - can you find any news reports about a girl who died at the school? Take each incident as a separate unexplained event - it's illogical to conclude 'BECAUSE GHOSTS!!11' when unusual events occur, because ghosts are not proven to exist. Now, if you catch something on CCTV or with your own eyes - now you'll be getting somewhere! 1

That being said, please do carry on, it's making my day go by easier!

unixman_again Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Supposedly our main building (1880) is haunted. We definitely have gremlins playing havoc with our network today. Mapped drives keep unmapping themselves, or they aren't being mapped at logon.
LiamH Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 It always makes me laugh that you have these "ghosts" who could do anything they wanted yet find the most joy in turning on/off lights and knocking stuff off desks.. My old local in England was supposedly haunted, being an old coach station. But despite spending MANY late nights there I never saw anything!
