howartp Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Sony Minidisc Recorder/Player, bought in 2001 Used minidiscs for our Panto SFX for about 4-5 years on two proper desktop players. Towards the end, bought a portable minidisc player - used couple if times, but still in drawer now where I put it years ago.
CAM Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 most used console i own atm though granted i am mainly playing virtual console games on it going through fire emblem games i diddnt know about in gba days and currently zelda a link to the past either im worse at it than years ago as i suck or its harder lol got an internet radio my biggest gripe is if my router reboots about half the time absolute radio wont then play it thinks im not in the uk and thats with bt as an isp how much more British could my isp be? Oooh didn't know Fire Emblem was on there. Also agree, using my Wii U more than my PS4 at the moment, might pick up Splatoon when I get paid.
LeMarchand Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I got given a Windows 8 tablet, now relegated to the drawer cos I cant get on with it. Which one?
JoeBloggs Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Windscreen camera - thought it would be great to video when I'm driving about in case anything happens - in reality I can't be bothered sticking it on and turning it on and off every time I drive! (like satnav, don't want to leave it in the window 24/7 as it will more than likely get nicked and I'll have a broken window!)
sted Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Oooh didn't know Fire Emblem was on there. Dos_Box Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Sony Minidisc Recorder/Player, bought in 2001 I'm going to stand up for MiniDisc here as I got a stereo with one built in as well as a personal player. In the days before mp3 it certainly filled the gap for quick and easy to use personalised audio. Once mp3 players came along however it was game over!

In the days before mp3 it certainly filled the gap for quick and easy to use personalised audio. Once mp3 players came along however it was game over! I had a minidisc deck in my old hi-fi, and a portable player to go with it. I used it constantly for about 4 years. I sold the stuff to a local band when I replaced it. It was a good technology, just a little bit too late to market.
JJonas Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Probably a DAB radio. I bought one, realised it would only work on the window ledge, realised there were very few radio stations on it and sold it a year later at a significant loss. I then bought a Squeezebox boom Internet radio and it's one of my most used gadgets.
Seb1780 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I had a minidisc deck in my old hi-fi, and a portable player to go with it. I still have both my MD deck and portable players; I've even got a car MD headset lying around somewhere. In the very late 20th century it was the bee's knees. I've got around 100 MD mixtapes that I put together at a significant point in my life and I'd hate to lose the ability to play them, so I'm keeping the kit.
E_G_R2 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Got a mini solar panel from Lidl so that I can charge my phone while camping. Weathers been so shocking I can't get it charged above 25% 1
Seb1780 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Most of the "tech" I've been given as presents has had a very short lifespan: the "all-in-one remote"; the "99 games in one joystick" thing. I think I have had about a dozen "credit card sized electronic personal organizer" devices as presents over the years!!
DrewTech Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Gaming mouse was a cheap one broke within 2 weeks, what you get I suppose for £3.
crc-ict Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Pretty much anything 'USB' that wouldn't normally be expected to be USB compatible: - USB Plasma Ball - USB Lava Lamp - USB Can Fridge - USB Laptop light Need I go on...
LeMarchand Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Pretty much anything 'USB' that wouldn't normally be expected to be USB compatible: - USB Plasma Ball - USB Lava Lamp - USB Can Fridge - USB Laptop light Need I go on... I've got a USB light I actually use! After getting through 2 illuminated keyboards in fairly short order (I'm a "heavy handed" typer and they seem prone to keys getting worn) I glued up one of these to the underside of my desk so that it shines on the keyboard.
jumpinjamez Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 This thread does show that one mans junk is another mans treasure. i would happily give a loving home to a Dreamcast, a raspberry pi and that windows 8 tablet i do have a wii myself not been used for over a year.

Ah now on a desk I could see the uses. But the one I was given was a laptop light that's only purpose was to drain the laptop battery - quite a few years ago now when a couple of hours life was the best you were going to get anyway!
jamesb Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 i do have a wii myself not been used for over a year. I've got three Wiis, and a Wii U which is actually still used. The Wiis are still used, sort of... http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/WL:whiite-linux
difinity Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 MiniDisc fan here too, i used a portable one to record DJs and i use a full size one as part of my stereo setup as it shows the line in level and allows me to control the volume of three amps from one remote control. The USB fan i bought got turned on once then never again, the noise from the fan is far to loud.
Diello Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 O2 Joggler... used for all of about 2 hours! MD was great!
Dos_Box Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 I'm waiting for someone to admit they had one of these:
AJWhite1970 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 USB vacuum keyboard cleaner... So feeble it couldn't pick up a spec of dust let alone some of things I pull out of student keyboards!!!
Stone_Charli Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I once bought a Waterproof Walkman for when I went swimming: Waterproof Sports Headphones for Swimming | NWZ-W273-W274S | Sony UK First time I used it, it flew out of my ears when I pushed off the wall. Haven't used it since. £53 I'll never get back. Although I am thinking about using it again now I go to the gym.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I'm waiting for someone to admit they had one of these: Haha! My sister had one of these, was utterly useless and i'm not sure she ever figured it out. As for DAB, I love mine. It sits in the kitchen and lets me listen to five live sports extra when the cricket is on and Planet rock radio the rest of the time. They're wonderful things
