Evans at the height of TFI back in the day - perhaps. Evans based on the last offering of TFI - no.

He's mellowed too much in later life and become nice... The British public don't really want nice, because if they did we'd all be American.

I think Evans is a ****** **** and I doubt I'll be watching.

Me too. Mind you, thought the same about Jezza, and don't understand the obsession with cars - so in my case, still won't be watching.

I'm really quite enthused by this. Chris evans has been on my tv / radio sincde the early 90's I've loved the big breakfast, tfi friday, the breakfast show on radio 2, so it's a logical step that he'll make a Top Gear that I like.

However, I would like a couple of unknowns as co-presenters. It worked with Hammond and May joining Clarkson for the last Top Gear reboot and I think it';ll be the best way to do it again.

I do agree however that they need a challenge from the off. They'll endear themselves to the viewers more if the first epsiode sees them working together to compete in the Mongol Rally or something similar.

Not that I'm not looking forward to Clarkson, Hammond & May doing their own show. On Netflix they'll have a lot more freedom to make something new. It'll be good to have two shows competing again.

why not have an actual race driver as one of the hosts / instead of the stig so when they do a serious car bit the "stig" can talk get someone like Rob Austin / Dan Welch from btcc and those 2 seem to have enough sense of humour they could probably work well with chris evans

I suspect 70% of those 'No' votes are from a "No 'cause it's not Clarkson anymore" perspective rather than a "I dislike Chris Evans specifically" perspective.

I know 5 people who "Don't like Chris Evans" I for one am one of them. I said it when he was rumoured and I also said it when Chris Evans was the "Star of the reasonably priced car".

No it isn't Clarkson but looks like its not any of the original cast. I may give the first episode a try but I honestly don't see my self being so fussed about the show. Some times the shows are more important with certain presenters than the actual show content. And it did work well with those 3.

Clarkson is a donkey, funny bloke, pushes the boundaries, and he is quirky old fella..he is like Marmite.

He was in a position to provide entertainment and he delivered!

Hamster and Captain Slow were a good mix with Jezza as they would feed of each other.

Chris Evans used to grind on me rotten, as i have aged i can tolerate the dude and he is an entertainer, i think he would do well.

I hope it works as i miss my hour of complete visual diarrhoea..its all about entertainment and laughter...

The roads trips and challenges were the best...

Clarkson "Power"

Clarkson "Man crisis"

May "Buffeting"

Hamster "Oliver"

Mmm might start watching it again with Chris Evans at the helm rather than the Chief Buffoon and his simpering stooges.

Good news! :)

I agree - especially if they actually go back to looking at cars :)

There is a good chance a reboot can work with Evans at the helm, but to many people hes another Marmite character.

I never liked TFI and all the other things evans has done. I tolerate him on radio 2 because its evans and the crew and to be honest im only just work up when his stint has done.

Sadly I think my appeal with TG is the 3 old presenters, they bounced off each other perfectly and to me it was an hours entertainment not an hours worth of car information. Will it be more fun with evans? for me I doubt it. But at least it gives the moaners something to moan about. The rest will switch off and do something else. Some people are never happy though, it must be the time of their life where they are optimised for moaning, and will continue to moan even if they don't like evans ... that ship has sailed .... if you like it watch it and if not move on.

Exactly my point. Even if the show went back to the old style, profit wise it wasn't making much, entertainment wise it didn't exist - it was a Factual programme though. Top Gear's popularity went through the roof because of the new format and the characters. They clashed but as you said perfectly. Each character we could usually relate to, you have the Captain Slow who likes to do things properly (cant stress how many of these I've met especially in IT), you have POWER/HAMMER who well... tends to be more of a Football fan and the one in the middle who is the Yank at heart.

Still, I will miss the show and can't wait to see what these 3 get up to on what ever channel they go to. I hope it's not Netflix because I don't want to pay for another service which I don't have. Personally I hope it's Sky because I get all those channels.

As for the New Top Gear with Evans.. sadly I really don't think I will enjoy it. Especially if it reverts back to the old ways, I found that show far too boring and a bit too "Nature Program but with cars" which is not my cup of tea.

They should combine the TG reboot with another popular reboot. £400K supercar review narrated via swanee whistle, Stig replaced by a towering knitted soup dragon (still with white helmet of course), star in a reasonably priced musical boat.

Well hell, ... I'd watch it.

So, one of the other presenters is going to be a woman. Which is a nice change! Wonder who it'll be. Jodie Kidd? Sabine Schmitz? Joanna Lumley?

suzi perry is the name ive seen mentioned

As long as it's not some bimbo with big knockers just to get men watching i'll be happy. At least old top gear didn't do that.

Definitely. I think they're going to have to tread very carefully to not 'try too hard' or diminish the program. Boobie-vision would definitely come under diminishing.

Either that, or take it in an entirely new direction, but I have an unfiltered* internet connection. If I want to see boobies, I will do so at my discretion. I don't need them on TV just for the sake of being there.

* Ignoring CleanFeed and TPB.

Please can you explain this concept to the people at HBO, Starz, Showtime et al?

They might well have ideas about who will replace them, but Chris did say on the radio today that they'll be auditioning anybody (not really anybody) who would like a go. He also said that these people being reported as favourites might not want the job, or be good at the studio bits, or the comedy etc. So they're going to have to be careful who they choose.

It really sounds like he wants to get it right. It's definitely not going to go back to the 90's Top Gear format which is a good thing :)
