Got a friend who is an auto sparky so getting them wired and installed isn't a problem. Been looking at some of the kits used in trucks and ambulances that he fits but they are pricey, I suppose you get what you pay for but for what I need I cannot justify spending a ton on money.

IrritableTech Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I think someone on here a while ago suggested the Mobius Camera. The quality looks excellent, but it isn't designed to be a dash cam really. You can replace the lens with a wide angled alternative, you can remove the lens entirely from the camera body (useful if you want the install to be as hidden as possible) and you can replace the battery with a capacitor which ensures that recording stops minutes after the power is cut. ~£80 with a cradle and a suitable length of cable. I keep looking at it. I guess it's like a cheap GoPro - there are other mounts and accessories you can get for it. It's not waterproof though.

Not used it in anger yet but the footage we took in the house was decent even in christmas lighting. I was recommended a Dragonfly as being V good but at £160 that is quite an investment.
Chris_ Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I have a Mini 0803 camera with GPS. The quality is pretty good for the price. I think there's a Mini 0805 and 0806 now. I've got the wire for it run in the headlining and down the A pillar down to behind the glovebox where it's powered from.

Although I don't do starship mileage, the amount of poor driving I see daily I do think there's going to come a time when having one is going to be invaluable. In an ideal world the Blackvue 2-channel units would be perfect, however spending £250< on a camera is not something I really fancy doing! I've been looking at cheaper alternatives, (and thanks for the suggestions on here!) and found the Transcend DrivePro 200 on Amazon. Seems to be getting some great reviews on there, and appears good value. Anyone got one?

abillybob Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hey Buddy, Here's my camera that I use, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FKTQ3NE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00 It's very good because it also works with motion detection and will turn on using it's own integrated battery when something moves in front of it or knocks your car, this has become very helpful on parking lots when people hit your car with their door and drive off. It is also very inexpensive at just around £30.00 a pop, the camera quality is absolutely spot on, the YouTube version doesn't do it justice I used Movie Maker to compress it to a 10mb file it does do 1080p video very well. I have also modified the wiring so snipped off the Cigarette Lighter plug and connected the + and the ground underneath my cigarette lighter socket using solder this ensure the camera turns on and off overtime I start or stop my car so no need to mess around with it. Plus I find some cigarette lighter plugs can be a bit flimsy and turn off randomly and you're there having to try and wiggle it to make the power work again. Just a few things to think of, be sure to get a 16GB memory card though as a minimum. 2

dry Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I got a decent camera a couple of years ago- 720p recording, GPS, Motion Sensor, doesn't have a screen so not distracting at night and all for less than £50. Annoyingly they don't seem to manufacture it any longer and I was one of the last people to get it- Techmoan reviewed it on his channel (will dig a link out later). The closest I've seen to it's quality, features and price are the Mini 0801/3/5s.... but still more expensive and don't have GPS by default

I'm not fussed about running hard wired power up to it, I'd just like to have it hidden from my sight when I'm driving! I have this one that goes in front/behind (depending on how you look/think about it) and it comes with a very long cable so i have routed it along the top of the windscreen, down the side and into a gap behind the dashboard and eventually re-appearing near the 12V socket near the gear-stick. Works very well and picture quality is great. 1

bigaluk Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Its crap. I just got back from lidl, I was playing with it in store and was crap. Poor video and lens angle was bad, The dash cam i got for £14 was a lot better then the lidl make.
