BBC MicroBit Restricted Installation Allowed thru GPO
robmal replied to chazzy2501's topic in Windows 7
Can you add an exception by device PID and or VID? I think I have the details for the micro:bit somewhere.... we had to do this with our Safend USB encryption software that would not cope with micro:bits being attached to any of our PCs -
I'm not sure that a desktop icon which the kids will spot pretty quickly if its seen on an IWB or screen will be too good.... I can imagine them seeing how far they can go before the cursor starts moves over towards the icon! Something a little more discrete maybe? There again, I can't see teachers remembering a key combination whilst in a panic!

Virtual machines for students (Linux)?
robmal replied to dagza's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
The particular OCR CA task your students will be doing requires a little more thought in the set up than that in the thread recommended above, tho I am not expert enough to guide you through it - sorry! I only know this because my Network Manager is about to tackle the same for me. The CA task requires students to use command line tools to create additional users with various permissions by using command line tools. A Linux vm which returns to its previous state after use is no good as is one which can be changed by different users logging on to the host - each users settings need to be preserved for future sessions. Multiple Choice Quiz in PowerPoint with scores / grades

Microsoft Office Mix: https://mix.office.com/en-us/Education Has features for tests, assessments and reports as a PowerPoint add in ... worth looking at if you don't sort out another way of achieving what you want. Some of our teachers are beginning to experiment with it and it is going down well. Rob -

Hi all Setting up a room of lovely SFF Lenovo workstations VESA mounted behind the monitors. The whole visual impact is spoilt by miles of bundled up cables - not least a 2m vga one... 60cm would be perfect. Anyone able to tell me where to get some? Cheers Rob

We use EnlightKS for our ECDL testing which also relies on Java.... This has also been problematic with upwards of twenty students all trying to load their tests at the same time, Java failing to load. Our solution was to have each student take the following steps: 1/ Go to the Oracle site and verify Java, once they have the green tick, leaving that tab open 2/ Go to the Enlight site, log on and load their test, watching for the Java Run window and clicking on 'Yes' when it appears This has worked happily all this term much to our relief. It takes a few more minutes but has saved us much grief. It might work for you too? R

Current one is an EducationCity mug from BETT this year, lasted better than most of mine which seem to fall into a black hole somewhere about school. It does beg the question tho, wasn't there some mention of an EduGeek mug being produced at sometime? Am sure lots of us would actually buy one of those, if they weren't handed out with the pizza of course! Rob

LoL! We use a little utility called Proxy Switcher. It does the same as the script but auto senses when no domain is available and permits connection to a home wifi
