System Image Utility - Different OS X Versions
ironmaidenrule replied to ironmaidenrule's topic in Mac
Thanks for confirming this, I possibly see why this would be the case but surely a boot disk image can be made regardless of what OS is it, feels like vendor lock in to me. -
Looking for some confirmation on an issue I am having, we are running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 and are in the process of updating our Macs to Yosemite, thought I would create a Boot Install Image using System Image Utility. Plugged in iMac with Yosemite connected via Thunderbolt, booted it up in Thunderbolt mode. Can see the Thunderbolt disk on the server, when loading System Image Utility, I am getting the message "No valid source volumes were found". I am starting to think this is a compatibility issue with the OS X on the server and Yosemite.

Thank you for the helpful advice, will take a look at a transparent proxy. Did come across info on PAC and WPAD files but I think a transparent proxy would work best for guests and students, was a little surprised there wasn't more info out there or a defined method for BYOD and Internet Proxies, some articles and information was from 2006.

Greetings All, Hopefully this is the correct place for this thread. I have just setup a Network Policy Server which seems to be working quiet happily, however I am still having to manually enter our Internet Proxy Details, has anybody got a way of Automating this through NPS or other means? Specifically for Mobile/Tablet devices, all out domain machines get Proxy details through a GPO.

Thank you for the reply Pashers, I see where you are coming from with the Mac's Dock, we have a preference set on the Workgroup Manage to pin it to the left hand side of the screen for the pupil accounts. Hopefully the User and Computer preferences will work in harmony with each other, can't see why they wouldn't.

Been looking at the options in our workgroup manager and we already have some Preferences set for a Users Group under to Login Items, there is a certain Preference I wish to set up Login Items for the Computers Group, will they both work together or will I need to copy the settings specified in the Users Group to the Computers Group. I am assuming they work like User and Computer GPO settings in AD.

Having a bit of a problem with Powershell and WMIC commands that is proving difficult to find an answer for. I am trying to invoke WMIC commands to do stuff remotely, however I keep getting the error message "Provider is not capable of the attempted operation". The is regardless of what users or privileges I state in the command, has anybody got a resolution for this?

Have come across an annoying issue with Garageband files and wondering if anybody has a solution? Pupils logon to the Mac with their domain credentials and start working on Garageband. The music department has a shared folder mapped to all the student computers for the pupils to save there work on, this folder is located on a Mac Pro and has permissions set. Word document and other files seem to be okay and can be opened by staff when the pupils place work on that share, however, when the pupil uploads a Garageband file or "package" it locks to the created user only and I have to manually reapply to permissions to open it up again.

Thanks for the info robmal, still having issue with it but starting to think it is just a bad combination of errors that won't be solved until we move away to another system that doesn't rely on Java....roll on September 2014!!

Encountering some strange issues with Java and ECDL testing and wondering if anybody else has had similar problems? The tests used to come through ThirdForce and use the MacroMedia/Adobe Authawa stuff but they then made a switch to using Java which has created its own set of issues, at first it was just the pupils blocking content from loading when prompted, this was fixed easily enough by closing down IE and reloading the test. Now, we are having issues were the Java Applet is timing out, usually I can reinstall Java and fix this but a student used the same machine another another had successfully finished a test on and got the Java Error message, so it all worked fine for one user, another one logged on.....error! It was the latest Java that I had updated less than an hour before, I removed all traces of their local profile and renamed the network V2 so it created a completely new one, just to eliminate any personal settings they may have set.

Decided to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 8 the other week and for purposes other than gaming, I am finding that I am using Ubuntu the majority of the time. Not sure if this boredom with Windows and using something new is exciting and different, time will tell.

Interactive Whiteboard Setups
ironmaidenrule replied to ironmaidenrule's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for the info guys, that Dynadock looks really interesting. -
Does anybody have any creative setups for Interactive Whiteboards and projectors? We usually have to standard setup of teachers computer on a desk near the whiteboard and all the cables close enough not to cause any hazzards. But, the science labs are due to be rearranged and there will be a good couple of Ft gap between to computer and where the teacher will be working/facing, running cable is not to most ideal solution, we have looked into wireless VGA but the technology seems a bit flakey still to me, is anybody got a similar setup running through a tablet etc?

...and applying this Hotfix seems to have solved my IE problem: A hotfix is available for the ASP.NET browser definition files in the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
