Your AUP should really cover appropriate use of mobile phones too.... Can you offer parents a recommended spec for laptops in the future and explain the reasons why you do not recommend 3G capability? Always the same... Allegations are easy to make, hard to prove and even harder to disprove. The student must have some grounds (in her own mind) to make the complaint, but without logs it can never be proved. On the other hand, bet she can't prove she has never shared her Facebook log on with a friend or left a PC logged on and unattended. Soldering those joints back is the prefered way - but the contact pads may have been broken off the board, making it a really tricky job. Our Physics tech can do most of the repairs we send him, long enough to get the data off. We then advise it get thrown in the bin. Last week he met one that he didn't like the look of, he filled the casing with blu-tack which applied enough pressure to hold the four contacts together for the time it took to get the data off! OP's advise about only using repaired memory sticks on a remote hub apply - good common sense that Have fun Rob

Agreed those are the most useful sizes and good point about getting short ones, you don't want to have to use a hacksaw on them! Haven't yet met a caretaker without a Screwfix account - if you are on speaking terms with yours!

Its going to a metric size almost certainly. So measure the approx diameter and nip over to B&Q and buy a few either side of what you reckon it is ie 10mm dia would be m10 size Or get a plastic box of assorted bolts from Screwfix as they are a good thing to have around and will be a saving in the long run. The box should be one of those partitioned ones with a clear top.
