adhutton Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Anyone got a car dashboard camera? I'm considering buying one, but don't know what features are best to have? Anyone got one or can point me in the direction of a decent one? Cheers - Andrew
fairm010 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 The footage from @abillybob 's one looked good. Mine has a G sensor that sends the thing into lock down if it detects rapid acceleration / deceleration. 1
caffrey Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Techmoan do good reviews, I keep meaning to buy myself one. Techmoan - What is the best Dashcam? 1

3s-gtech Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Budget? Go Pro is a sound choice. You can also use an Android phone with a memory card, if you have a good holder for it, and an app like AutoGuard. 2
fairm010 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 "built-in 3 Axis G-force Sensor will detect impact and trigger emergency record automatically. The camera then saves and stores video of the incident along with video from a few moments preceding and following the event. Mine also seems to not be able to delete any footage unless I actually edit the security on the individual files." 1

Right, thanks ! that's a great feature should the worst ever happen and you're not recording 1
nikaso Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I've got a Drift Ghost S but primarily use it on my bike, if I was going to use it in the car on a regular basis I would probably look for one with a G sensor, that way you don't have to remember to turn it on and off, it will just save the last 5 minutes of footage when a high-G event is detected. You can get them with inbuilt GPS which can show speed etc. which can be useful for insurance etc. I would check low light performance, a lot of driving in this country in winter will be in darkness and if the camera is rubbish at low light levels there is no point. 1

fairm010 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 That would scare the s**t out of me! Is the footage being used for insurance purposes for him? Was going to fast in that lane for the conditions.

fairm010 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 TBH he probably turned round and set off again. He's at fault for because of his speed.
Tesla Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I would of had to of pulled over to regroup or something, sod carrying on like nothing had happened lol!
hardtailstar Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 TBH he probably turned round and set off again. He's at fault for because of his speed. He didnt. A car stopped behind me to deal with him and the car in the middle lane stopped too.
p3dr0 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm just waiting for G1W Full HD 1080P G1W 2.7" LCD Car DVR Camera Recorder G-sensor H.264 Night Vision | eBay as recommended by my friend, I will upload some footage once I get it but from what I have seen it is the best cam on the budget below £50
LeMarchand Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 TBH he probably turned round and set off again. He's at fault for because of his speed. Did the other car get hit? S/he pulled over, but that may have been for a change of underpants!

sippo Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I have a Blackvue, and although not the cheapest, they seem to be the best on the market. I have wired mine into the fuse box, hiding all the wires.
sted Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 keep thinking about it but its the cabling/recharging i have a problem with. Either its battery powered and ive got to take it out the car to charge it (cars a citroen after about 20 mins the fag lighterstereo etc have 0 power to the degree where it flashes a warning on the dash screen if you try and turn the radio on (eco mode on)) or running cables through the car to either a hard wired point (which means messing with the cars electrics) or the fag lighter and either way means a fair amount of trim removal

kennysarmy Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Not sure I'd want wires trailing to my power outlet - are there models that run on batteries?
hardtailstar Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Not sure I'd want wires trailing to my power outlet - are there models that run on batteries? Most of them do but from my experience they do not last long.
