I'm in the process of growing a beard. Any recommendations on oil or balm?

 

Never thought in a million years I'd be into male grooming (oooh, kinky). Now that I'm nearing that 'age' I should look after myself a little more!

I just use whatever I find cheapest in Boots! no doubt I'll be getting some grooming items for Christmas.. I'm one of the unlucky people who has a patchy beard so it needs to be long to cover up the empty patches!

I use simple facial wash (the green one) and simple cleansing toner, followed by simple replenishing moisturiser. These are great for preventing beard dandruff and ideal for helping you not look like death in the mornings!

 

Unless you want an essay, don't get me started on the shaving of parts of my face that aren't beardy.

The WHOLE POINT of a beard is that it saves from having to waste 5 mins a day f@rting about with grooming; isn't it? My beard is 35 years old this summer, and I've never felt any urge to oil it.

Once I rinse and wash my beard I put argan oil in it.

Maybe its a hipster beard. They like to add fancy costs to everything - from real ale (£1.69 for a pint of good local ale from the Spoons, or £4 for a trendy one in Brewdog) to £3.20 for a bowl of cereal.

Aye, hipster it may be but I'd rather go to an independent tax-paying cafe than Starbucks or Costa - people also seem to forget that many of the cereals they'll be selling in there are US-imports (lucky charms etc) that cost quite a lot of money, even for a small box.

But then, we're all the kinda people who buy a bottle with just "Shampoo" on it for our hair.

Aye, personally i can't see the point of washing something then putting oil on it. Anyway a friend of mine has a bloody massive beard and he says use olive oil on it

A beard in my life is simply my own lazyness and apathy. I don't think I have ever actually decided to grow a beard but rather have just not bothered to shave for a day or 2 and then liked the rugged look. When i do let it grow it gets the same level of grooming as the rest of me gets.

They do help on a night out if you drink to much to remember what you ended up eating at 11pm when you rolled out of the local. There is always a subtle reminder

Personally, I don't use anything other than an occasional anti-dandruff shampoo.

Well, I've had a beard since the earlier eighties and all I do is shampoo it when I have a shower and clear the birds-nests out once in a while. No need to buy any girlieish rubbish to look after it. Man up, people! Edited December 15, 2014 by tech_guy

I use The Bearded Man Company for my beard oil as they are local to me. They have a great range of scents and it keeps my beard looking healthy and dandruff free. here is a pic of my Christmas beard and outfit from last. Ho Ho Ho!!!!

i had a huge beard and just used whatever was in the bathroom but i did have to blow dry it as it would hold a lot of water.

I have to maintain a degree of facial hair as the OH likes to point out the "I look like a 12 year old boy" if I shave.

So currently thats about 3mm of hair, anything more and it itches like hell! How do you stop it?

Copious amounts of industrial strength moisturizer seems to do the job for me.

That's your problem, right there - 3mm. You have to let it grow past the itchy stage. I have the problem with my head these days, which I why I have to shave it regularly.

 

I wonder what @StevieM and @VeryPC Al do?

 

Until last year, I used nothing other than regular shampoo and conditioner. Then somebody gave me some samples from Lush and I liked them. Would definitely recommend the R&B hair moisturiser. They've also brought out a beard wash called Kalamazoo that I've not tried but had it recommended by others.
