north-ict Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 For those who do not know yet here is why: Blue ticks on WhatsApp: What they really mean - BBC Newsbeat 3
jamesreedersmith Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 So how do you disable this "feature?"
tommej Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) So how do you disable this "feature?" If you read from the notifications/widget on android it doesn't seem to turn them blue. Only when you actually open the app full screen. Wouldn't be surprised to see them add a way to disable it! Edited November 6, 2014 by tommej
north-ict Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) So how do you disable this "feature?" That was the first thing I thought too. I can just imagine it now....... "I sent you a message at this time and you read it at this time and you did not reply!!!" lol Edited November 6, 2014 by north-ict
detjo Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Well I still have some double grey showing on messages i sent to the Mrs and she obviously read the messages coz she responded to them. So the blue ticks work well then (not) !!
ZeroHour Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Well I still have some double grey showing on messages i sent to the Mrs and she obviously read the messages coz she responded to them. So the blue ticks work well then (not) !! What phone OS does she have?
hardtailstar Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 That was the first thing I thought too. I can just imagine it now....... "I sent you a message at this time and you read it at this time and you did not reply!!!" lol I get that with the Facebook inbox, Just because ive read it does not mean I will reply lol
Garacesh Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 That was the first thing I thought too. I can just imagine it now....... "I sent you a message at this time and you read it at this time and you did not reply!!!" Maybe you should have less needy/demanding friends.. Or just be honest and say "Because I was busy." "Because I was in a bad mood and didn't feel like it." "Because the only time you ever message me is asking if I'm going out drinking and I can't be bothered with a so-called 'friendship' that's based solely on alcohol." etc
detjo Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 What phone OS does she have? We are both on iOS 8.1
abillybob Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 This feature has always been implemented anyway. You could see the 'Last Seen' date and time of the recipient. This would then give you an indication of when the person has read your message. For example I sent message X at Y time and they where last seen at Z time.
detjo Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 'Last seen' was never an indication they had read ur message. Only when the last used the service.
Poults Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Last seen isn't accurate anyway, my girlfriend sent me a picture this morning which i responded too, her last seen said she was on at about 10pm last night.
MatthewL Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 None of mine have blue ticks when I know they have been read as I have got a reply under them!
JRowley Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I've never had blue ticks, just the single/double grey on iOS.
Zoom7000 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I'm still getting grey ticks on some of my chats even though the person has obviously read my messages because they have replied!
mac_shinobi Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I'm still getting grey ticks on some of my chats even though the person has obviously read my messages because they have replied! Pigment of your imagination lol
MatthewL Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 My mate mentioned this when I popped around earlier, both went through our old messages no blue double tick, send a test to each other and there it was a double blue tick.
Disaster Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I thought this was obvious anyway, as you can see if they're online or not when the second tick appears, and it appears regardless. Or am I just a genius?
localzuk Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 People have started sending round a nonsensical thing saying "your account will be locked and you'll have to pay £25 to unlock it unless you forward this on to 10 people. Once you have, the ticks will turn blue!" or similar on there. Why do idiots believe this stuff?!
Tesla Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 This is no different to what facebook does anyway. Or the Kik messenger service.
john Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 the ticks also work on group messages now you go into the info on the message and it tells you whos read it snazzy no more hiding from people in groups
