Jamoire Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 This isn't quite true, Joe Belfiore showed a demo of an 8 inch tablet running Desktop Mode It's certainly true on my install. The desktop dims and although you can see it and all your files / shortcuts, you cant interact with it at all and cant launch anything from it. I may just be missing it but i cant see on the Video him actually using the desktop when in tablet mode? He closes the Sport app and you can see the desktop but he doesnt actually use it? Have seen it mentioned elsewhere as well.

Jamoire Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) I'm guessing its a 'feature' of continuum they are trying out to gather feedback as it noticeably dims and is the only thing that doesn and it was perfectly usable in 8.1 and in 10 when tablet mode is off, but there is no way it can stay in as it is. Have seen it mentioned elsewhere as well. If you click on the new notifications icon in the system tray then click on Tablet mode to toggle between desktop mode or tablet mode. Arthur Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Windows 10 devices with screens smaller than 8 inches to lack desktop Microsoft's Joe Belfiore, head of the Windows product definition and design team, has confirmed that Windows 10 devices with screens smaller than 8 inches won't have the traditional desktop, ending speculation that small tablets may be stuck with the old interface. In a comment on Twitter, Belfiore said the desktop will be solely for devices with 8-inch and larger screens, while devices with screens smaller than 8 inches (such as phones, phablets and small tablets) will lack the desktop. Traditional Windows applications will work on the larger devices, while the smaller devices will presumably be limited to Metro-style apps.
JRowley Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Not really an issue as far as I'm concerned, at 8" and below the traditional interface becomes almost unusable, so you aren't losing anything really.

This feature makes a huge difference to me as if it does I will be able to retire 3 servers and a third party app dashboard saving me almost £1500 year in licensing.

I can't see why Microsoft would switch back to the old authentication method used for legacy clients like Windows 7. Kerberos is much simpler. 1

Arthur Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Joining a Windows 10 device to Azure Active Directory As you might know Windows 10 will allow us to use Azure Active Directory (AAD) to manage the device, Microsoft talked about this in the fall (Windows 10: Manageability Choices) and with the latest public build (9926) the functionality is actually built-in!

Not convinced it's UAC as I tried turning that off as it had been suggested elsewhere.

Windows 10: Re-Crappifying Windows 8 Have to say I agree with that at the moment, haven't been that impressed with the UI thus far as it seems to have gone too far back the other way into a desktop-only OS. Need a middle ground of the best bits of 8.1 for touch users and the Win10 interface for desktops. That's what Continuum promises but it needs to improve very quickly over the preview builds in a fairly short space of time imo. Edited February 16, 2015 by gshaw

gshaw Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Why have the icons turned into 1996-era clipart I have a feeling Windows 10 is going to be good on desktops, going back to the core market which is good in a way but looks a backwards step for tablet users.
