It was built from scratch. I used the ISO from the Stickied thread and then ran the update from there. Rebooted the VM and it's working now, though says it can't activate (probably because it's a domain machine and we use a KMS here, which I doubt will authorise W10 clients just yet) and won't find any build update.

Sadface of death error code was 0x00010001 but I can't find any info on it.

It may have been built from scratch, but if the upgrade has corrupted the install which seems to be fairly common then you will need to start over.

Here I go again, then D: Thanks for the info.

Yeah it kind of sucks, I've had it happen twice. But that's the cost for early builds I suppose!

looks like they've finally listened to what many of us said right at the start

While many people have been waiting for a tablet like the Surface 3 from Microsoft, I'm not so sure one would have been a good idea back in early 2013 when the original Surface Pro was released.

The performance of Intel's Clover Trail Atom's were quite poor. I might be wrong, but I don't think anyone would want a tablet where the CPU usage is a constant ~40% with just Word open.

actually i have a tablet with one of those and for daily stuff it wasnt too bad but i did upgrade to a surface 1 pro as sometimes i needed the oomph (and 32gb storage is pants) though i am wondering about replacing that with a 3 i just wish they would give it a 256gb option as the 128 on my pro 1 is 90 odd percent full (same as the pro 3 missed a trick not having decent storage on the i3 version to get some storage space you need to cough up a wedge of cash

Whelp that updated significantly quicker, back on 9879 (from 91..something..) but it's still saying there's no further build update

O.o

Any build >9879 seems to hate me/my test machine. 9926 installs if I pre-format the disk using something like G-Parted, but won't update and I'm not inturlek... klevu... smart enough to get the -mountimage and change edition to ENT noted elsewhere here to work. Managed to convert the 10041 .esd to ISO, but that fails to install (luckily I made a clone first!).

Looks like I'm on 9926 until a newer ENT ISO becomes available or I find I have some spare time on my hands (possibly over the Easter break).

Grrrr.

Have you checked you are on the fast track build release? Also you may need to perform some windows updates before it sees you as eligible.

if by 'fast track' you mean 'set my updates to Fast from Slow' then yes I did that.

I might have accidentally put the VM on the wrong HDD the second time around, though, so when I was doing Windows Updates I ran out of space and the VM died on me >.>

ROUND THREE.. FIGHT!!

It took almost three hours to upgrade my AMD 6-core beast with Samsung SSD, and the entire night to upgrade my Tosh 8" tablet!

I note that 10049 has the same issue with the Mail/Calendar/People apps as before, requiring you to Powershell uninstall them and reinstalling from the Store.

Spartan is nice, though.

My start menu wont open now, and I have two shortcuts on my desktop called 'Korea Media Player Center and Korea Messenger Center' so that's fun!

Mines been going since about 10am today... currently at 24% :( So slow!!!!

The slow install times and additional shortcuts appear to be related to a bug in builds 10041 and 10049.

Problems with disk space and installation time in builds 10041... - Microsoft Community

Builds 10041 and 10049 seem to be taking up much more disk space than previous builds. This has led to the following problems:

  • Attempts to install the latest build may be blocked due to insufficient disk space.
  • The amount of time needed to install the latest builds is taking much longer than previous builds. Some users are reporting that it is taking hours to install.

Why is this happening, and how much space do I need to free up to install the latest build?

We have a bug, which in some cases is causing setup to download all available language packs during the installation of Builds 10041 and 10049. We believe this is the cause of both of these issues. It may also result in a few unexpected folders appearing on your desktop or in File Explorer.

If you're blocked from installing the latest build because you don't have enough disk space, you'll want to free up 2.5 GB of space to resolve the issue.

If you want to reclaim the extra disk space from the language packs after installing the latest build:

  1. Open a command prompt as an administrator

  2. Bring up the interface for uninstalling language packs by typing the following command and press Enter:

    Lpksetup /u

  3. Select the language packs you want to uninstall.
