I'm up to attempt 4 to install the latest updates. The first time it downloaded them and offered a restart but failed to install them (with no errors for why) and then every other time it's hit 100% downloaded and then decided to tell me that there was actually a problem downloading, the error is suggesting that it's a connection timeout issue. I'll give it another try tonight when I don't have a proxy in the way.

That would have been useful if A) I'd known about it and B) Windows gave me the choice to update rather than coming in and being told its updated :) /changes from fast to slow updates

Anyone managed to get 10066 yet? Just spotted a message about unable to install it, assume it was released today?

I believe that's an internal MS build that's not publicly available. People who installed the leaked 10056 build are seeing the update (but it fails to install).

EDIT

Yeah I got Win 10 10066 working on a machine yesterday.

Oh how? Did you have to edit the reg like some websites were saying?

I didn't get the 10056, think I went 10049 to 10061, hopefully 10066 will bring my start menu back!

How strange, everything I've read says that its an internal build for MS employees and only shows up for those who installed the leaked internal build.

So are you in position where its trying to install and fails?

It said install failed for 10066, tried again said the same, but now it appears to not be trying to do it anymore. I've been using the 10 for Enterprise from the original build.

Well, after manually downloading/installing a few updates and faffing around with the method @Jamoire posted my 9926 build finally downloaded and updated to 10061!

The new setup screen was visually an improvement, but still didn't really give you a reliable indication of how long the process would take. Luckily for me (have seen horror stories and I have an older machine) it only took a couple of hours. Was a bit annoyed that after logging in it still wanted to set more stuff up, but hey ho!

So far: Recycle Bin icon -yecch! Nagging me to Activate Windows (then reporting that the key is invalid) = not good. Plus Project Spartan just seems to be little different than the "Metro" version of IE. Will have to make an effort to use it to get a better feel for it. Otherwise, not a heck of a difference from 9926 apart from possibly a bigger push towards using an MS account.

@sparkeh my win 10 update is set to fast. It just downloaded and asked me to restart to install.

10066 is a general release. You don't need to have installed the leaked release last week. Details for 10066 was released on the windows blog

Hmm do you have a link for the announcement? Just looked on the windows 10 blog and last post is 22 April announcing 10061.

Can't see anything on net that makes me change my earlier statement.

10066 is a TWS build, so for Microsoft employees only. 10061 is the latest build for people on the fast ring.

Some people were prompted to download 10066 via Windows Update, but this seems to be a bug. :)

Is it just me who finds 10061 annoying - like the action centre thing - they didn't need to change it to block colour! (And leave a horrible white border around it eww)

Remember that this is a 'tech preview' ;)

Does the notification area/swipe out area work for anyone? I've got build 10049 (or something) running on my surface pro 2 and any time I click the notifications it does nothing other than the animation for being clicked. Not a huge issue most of the time but still annoying.

xD and I am a picky tech! :o

In Soviet Russia, tech picks you

Are they planning to make isos of release builds, does anybody know? I've had updates fail on me so many times now that it's putting me off trying 10.. I don't mind that it's a tech preview and thus incomplete but I do want to at least be able to test it. Not being able to test the test preview is a bit of a bugger :p

Works for me (with a mouse). The notifications seem to stay until cleared, though.

Apparently with the "slow" ring releases. That said, if they are planning to release in a couple of months one wonders if they'll bother.

Probably, although it's easy enough to create your own ISO if you don't want to wait.

I couldn't get that method to work :(.

Windows 10 'Insider Preview' build 10074 leaks, straight from Microsoft's servers

... this latest build 10074 was discovered via Microsoft's own Windows Update servers, and can be downloaded directly from those servers, or via mirrors which you can find over on OS Beta Archive. Professional and Enterprise versions have been spotted, both in x86 and x64 flavors.

With Microsoft's Build 2015 event set to kick off in San Francisco tomorrow, it seems extremely likely that 10074 will be the 'Build build', if you'll forgive the slightly painful phrasing - or, to put it a little more elegantly, the build that Microsoft will officially release at its developer conference this week.
