Windows 10 System Requirements (Google Cache)

 

It's interesting to see that the Education edition of Windows 10 isn't mentioned next to BitLocker.

 

  • BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive (Windows 10 Pro only)
  • BitLocker requires either Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, TPM 2.0 or a USB flash drive (Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise only)

Do you think it will appear on the VLSC before this date? I could do with something to play with on my flight to Australia on the 29th :)

Normally a few weeks before general release.... The others have anyway.

 

It's still a little vague on the Education SKU...... Want some more info!!

I think it will be tied into azure allowing home users to upgrade to windows 10 edu while they are a member of that institution. Allowing users to take advantage of school licensed apps etc through azure AD.

 

I also expect it's a way to easily show that that big corp user is actually paying their way and haven't got a dodgey academic key from down the road at a local college due to their little ones having access.

 

Think of it like the beer icon for sky sports channels in pubs etc :)

 

You need to remember that this is supposedly the last version of windows, so Microsoft would need to plan for future features it might aim at schools and colleges.

Microsoft: Windows 10 Home costs $119, Pro costs $199

 

In a statement issued to Neowin, Microsoft officials said Windows 10 Home will be priced at $119 and Windows 10 Pro will cost $199. Microsoft also plans to charge $99 for the upgrade version of Windows 10 that will allow users to move from Home to Pro, according to the statement Microsoft provided Neowin. These prices will be for U.S. users in stores and online.

 

(Note: To be precise, the Windows 8.1 ERP pricing is $119.99 for Home, $199.99 for Pro and $99.99 for the upgrade from Home to Pro).

 

Over the weekend, online retailer Newegg.com published what it claimed to be OEM pricing for Windows 10. Newegg said Windows 10 Home for OEMs/system builders would cost $109.99, and Windows 10 Pro, $149.99. Newegg also said on its site that Windows 10 for OEMs will be available on 31 August 2015. UK prices haven't been confirmed, but if you convert the USD prices above into GBP and add VAT it works out to £94.70 for Home and £157.84 for Pro.

10130 fixes the issue with AMD graphics. Otherwise, seems more stable overall. Windows Mail crashes occasionally. Edited by MartinT

No it was about the same, the upgrade license was £20 for a time but a full license has always been around the £100 mark.

He's joking, typically there is a price hike between currencies for pretty much no reason at all, software especially.

I hope not! It's really annoying when companies use the $1 = £1 exchange rate. :)

 

It's worse when they don't use $1=£1 and the foreign version is still a lot cheaper...

It's definitely possible to do in-place upgrades, although you can still create an image if you want to.

Thanks for that. Looks like MS have put in a lot of work on the upgrade process to make it the recommended way to get from 7/8/8.1 to 10. Might have a play with that.

Maybe, but they still want illegitimate users using Windows 10. The vast majority of pirated copies of Windows, I'll bet, are still Windows 7, of which they make precisely zero dollar from. If they get them onto Windows 10 there's a chance (though unlikely, I reckon) they'll use the Windows Store and become a point of revenue. All of those bad copies of W7/W8 will be using false OEM keys or rogue KMS (I believe they're the most popular methods, but don't know for certain) and thus the CD keys won't work for W10.

 

I presume, however, being able to install from scratch means creating recovery media, which a lot of people don't know how to do (or don't realise the importance of until its too late).. Personally I'm a fan of the 'wipe it and start again' method rather than recovery media.. But we'll see..

It was confirmed that while illegitimate licenses can upgrade to W10 for free, they won't then get a legitimate license, so they won't be rolled into the family. Which I think is quite an oversight as they could have legitimised everyone, they won't magically get those people to join the family legitimately, they use illegitimate copies for a reason.

 

So they wont be using the store.

A reliable source tells me that they were able to reserve W10 even on an illegitimate copy.

 

On another note, I've 'reserved' but I don't think I'll upgrade when they actually release.. it's still incredibly buggy on my laptop.

Last I saw, you can reserve and then upgrade on the illegitimate copy but it will be watermarked as non-genuine afterwards. Presumably it will install fine and then just not activate and then nag you after a grace period in the same way Windows 8 does now.

It was initially announced by Terry Myerson (the head of Microsoft's operating systems unit) that they would get the upgrade for free and there was ambiguity regarding the status of their license afterwards. Microsoft then confirmed that they would get the upgrade for free, but their license would remain illegitimate.
