This is a really odd problem:

A teacher has a new Fujitsu laptop and from the start it has been behaving oddly.

Every now and again it just restarts and at other times it loses the wireless

But - and here's the kicker-

The restart thing NEVER happens at home. She had it at home for the whole summer and it didn't restart once. Brought it back in on Monday and within an hour it had restarted four times!

It happens with the charger plugged in, or without. She uses the same charger everywhere

Has ANYONE any ideas??

We had something like this with a teacher laptop - not Fujitsu but would blue screen often when he went home but was fine at school.

Was the wireless driver which caused the issue - even after a re-image we had to try several drivers before we found one which wouldn't blue screen and restart the machine. I'd try searching for a different driver for the wireless card and see if this makes any difference.

I might be completely wrong but worth a try!

We too had strange issue with the wireless dropping. Reinstalled the drivers and thought i'd fixed it but we got a call again.

Only recently did a colleague find updated drivers on the Fujitsu web site. They so seem to have done the trick.

Sadly, the issue is still happening even with new wireless drivers - it seems to be happening a bit less often but that doesn't help me much at all

Any other ideas, people? :)

When its plugged in at school is there any thing like mice, keyboard, interactive whiteboard plugged in, worth using it in another classroom and see if it does it then, and bring that known working one in and test incase one of these piece of hardware has a fault.

To resurrect this:

We have three Fujitsus that are bluescreening but only at school

I have updated everything in sight but it hasn't helped

Fujitsu have got me to run all the tests and as the results were positive and I have updated the drivers, it isn't their issue

I can't find anyone else who has this problem but it seems to be spreading

Any help very gratefully received

Does it all over the school - nothing extra plugged in.

Try an older wireless driver- if you search using the hardware ID of the WLAN card you should be able to get more choice than the Fujitsu website.

It sounds like it's definitely 'localised' to school- could it be an environment issue? Humidity related, something like that? Are they blocking the air vents on the bottom at school but not at home? Anything in the event logs that gives a clue?

Nothing in the event logs other than just a restart

The laptops are different ones to the ones originally mentioned - those improved with the new drivers but they are still flaky in school. All laptops just on the teacher's desk where they normally are. All over the school so some in old building, some in much newer ones. Other laptops nearby have no issues

I've got around 150 Fujitsu Laptops that are forever dropping the wireless connection, I thought it could be our wireless system as it's around 8 years old at this point but this thread is definitely making me question whether it is the wireless system now.

I'd love to know if anyone finds a solution to this as replacing all these laptops is not something I want to have to do.

On a related note, my school fujitsu laptop only drops the connection in school and has be faultless at home.

Not sure if this is relevant but the fujitsus don't seem to do it when either on the battery only, OR plugged in with the battery removed.

Does this give anyone any ideas?

i used to have really bad Fuij wireless problems, but then some experimenting and i now do not get the latest drivers from their website but use the intel drive update utility. This seems to pick up later drivers and solves the wireless dropout. Their is a problem on some models with the touchpad driver, i spoke to someone at Fuji and off the record they told me they did their testing on a Windows 8 machine and then rolled out to Windows 7. it is now fixed supposedly

The fujitsus definitely only blue screen when they are connected - either by cable or wireless - to the school network

They DON'T do it when connected to home wifi

Does that tell anyone, anything?

Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files.

Download the BSOD viewer and bring up the last blue screen and paste its contents in. The BSOD will hopefully tell you which component driver/application caused the fault.

It's not going to be the school causing the issue as such, it will be hardware, which as others have said, is only present at school, or even just the fact that the laptops are much more frequently used at school so they just don't a chance to exhibit the behaviour at home. Either way the BSOD codes are needed else its just fumbling in the dark

There are no files to look at. The settings were Kernel memory dump rather than small memory dump - not that I have any idea what that means. Presumably all the others are set to the same thing.

Have changed the one I am working on but as it only BSODed once last week I am struggling to get any further

You able to attach the 2 files off that laptop to here ( the 2 files that I highlighted as per above )

We had some Fujistu AH530 that kept blue screening. In the end we updated the Wireless drivers (Qualcomm Atheros AR9285) and it resolved the issue.

For some reason the Windows driver was the issue.

First one is empty

Can't find second one :( @Boredguy - does it on a cable as well - updated wireless first :(

Are you able to disable the wireless adapter before going wired via Switch or software toggle for example?

Even when wired windows will still utilise the wireless adapter and on some occasions prioritise over wired traffic.

Perhaps Tempererally remove wireless profile from windows and leave adapter on whilst just wired.

It's possible that the wireless configuration isn't liked on those adapters with or without updated drivers.

For example if wireless is in Mixed Mode WPA/WPA2.

How to configure Windows to create MiniDump files on BSOD

Make sure the minidumps are enabled to see the dump files.

What we are hoping to see is something like the posts on this forum. Basically it will tell you the binary which caused the exception, it's most likely a driver, so you would see a .sys file or something. This will point at the manufacturer of the device which is causing the problem at which point a more targeted approach to updating the drivers can be followed!
