Hi all I'm looking to enable users a window to a virtualized host machine via a web browser. No control of the host will be required as this is for information purposes only. The host is sits on VMware esxi vSphere and a HTML service is not enabled by default to my knowledge. My understanding is that what I wish to achieve is possible via VMware Horizon View HTML which would be installed on via client software on the host machine acting as a website and accessed via a specific port in a browser window. I wondered whether anyone had already tried this via the means above or via an alternative product. Currently the host is shared via a VGA splitter to multiple screens around the site and I'd like to remove these allowing the users to access the information as-hoc rather than having to rely on a separate screen. Any ideas would be greatly received. Many Thanks

Haven't had a chance to try leaving the logging enabled for longer just yet. We have no radius enabled for our WiFi and the only email accounts enabled on phones are via the Google App on Android so it shouldn't interact with Active Directory. I'm willing to put money on it being a Scheduled Task for the Admin user but I'd like to find a way to identify it easier.

Thanks. It's definitely enabling the logging it just seems to be reporting very little. I'll turn it back on tomorrow and see what happens.

Unless I'm missing something obvious I couldn't find anything other than a success call from the account in question and only one time. Does logging need to be set to a specific level for this to report what I need? Thanks
-
Thanks Rob_D I'm giving this a go whilst we speak.

Thank you. Indeed this is only reporting the DC the account authentication was attempted from

Thank you Davit I have considered this but can never find what I expect to find in the event viewer log. Would I be looking for 'Audit Failure' messages poporting to the user account in question? So far I have located messages again specific accounts but nothing relating to lockouts and resultant applications / services. Many Thanks

Hi all I have a number of users who keep getting logged out regardless of whether idle or their user profile is on use. This ranges from only being logged on to one host machine or multiple. IN one instance it is an admin account so I thought perhaps there was a Scheduled Task running somewhere with invalid credentials, however I have so far been unable to locate the root cause. Would anyone have any experience with tracking down the host machine that was responsible for locking out an account? I have looked at making use of a powershell script that supposedly reports the state of an account and then can source what led to the lockout however I've not had much look with this one. I'll reference it in case it helps anyone else out in the future: https://www.business.com/articles/powershell-active-directory-lockouts/ If anyone has any idea I'd be glad to here them as it's been bugging me for some time. Many Thanks Seahorse

Thank you. I'll take it under advisement but this is most likely what I'll do. I've looked at this setup myself recently and knew something wasn't quite right.

I second the Remote Desktop App suggestion. As it's temporary. Although I don't suppose you'll enjoy the faff of setting up a gateway for a short period either. Could you leave a disused windows pc running that you could run a remote session to once in a while?

Thank you for the prompt reply psydii I had a feeling it would be down to a hot record or zone but not until this very moment was it staring me in the face. We have a local intranet site which has been setup as a forward lookup zone in DNS. We recently had an issue whereby the address had to be changed so this may be the reason. Essentially the zone is labeled "info" and the domain name reside in it as well as Host (A) records for www. I'm not quite sure why it was ever setup this way but the only change as far as I know was in the domain name part when google recently blacklisted the domain. It would appear that no domain names ending in .info work. So now I know the root cause but I don't know quite how to resolve it without breaking our intranet. Essentially we just need a specific url to point to a specific SharePoint website.

Hi all We currently have a dual DNS Server setup where by a primary and secondary DNS both have DNS Forwarders setup. The vast majority of urls accessed have no issues at all, however one in particular does not resolve to an I.P address as long as either of the internal DNS servers are configured on a client either with DHCP or statically. If I configure a client with a static DNS server address which is that of any of the forwarders the site is accessible. It simply will not forward to the forwarding addresses via the internal DNS servers and only relies on its own database which clearly does not resolve to anything. Ping "Ping request could not find host ... Please check the name and try again." Tracert "Unable to resolve target system name ..." NSLookup Non-existent domain Tee same goes from either a client or any of the DNS servers. The site isn't being blocked by any filtering and I have tried whitelisting the site for good measure anyway. The host network adapters are configured the way they should be as far as I can tell according to serverl online sources I've crossed referenced to make sure. Both server formerly had a tertiary DNS server configured against the host adapter which has since been decommissioned but removing this had no affect. DC1 Host NIC Adapter: Primary DNS=Secondary DNS Server Address Secondary DNS=127.0.0.1 IP/6 disabled DC2 Host NIC Adapter: Primary DNS=Primary DNS Server Address Secondary DNS=127.0.0.1 IP/6 disabled DNS configuration on both servers Forwarders: Primary=8.8.8.8 Secondary=8.8.4.4 "Use Root Hints if no forwarders are available" is ticked. Standard Root Hints configured as default, no extras. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I'm happy to dig about and take criticism of any configuration settings as I wasn't the one who set these up. Thank you

Hi there I appreciate that this topic has become a little stale since 2012, however I wondered whether you'd moved on at all since then and made any progress or improvements taking into account later versions of Ubuntu and LTSP? I'm working on a similar project trying to give some old Thin Clients a new lease of life as the hardware currently doesn't connect to a Broker based RDP system. Hoping PXE'ing in this manner will negate the need for the original firmware currently lacking the capability. Thank you for sharing your progress. Seahorse

Hi Sted Thank you for the response. It would indeed appear that I am able to download PDFs successfully with a different user logged on. This is why it seems strange that even after recreating his profile he still has an issue. His redirected appdata folder has been purged of Adobe directories also.
-
Afternoon I have a user that is able to open PDFs but unable to download from neither Chrome, Firefox or IE to keep. This is neither through adobe reader once the file has opened in the browser or by right clicking the hyperlink and saving. So although able to open a PDF successfully both in Adobe Reader directly or the browser where the file is presumably downloaded to the temp folder. When attempting to download a chosen file you are prompted to choose the save directory and then that's it. No data actually gets created accept Chrome generating an empty temp file in the download location that never increases in size. Aside from this the browser appears to get slower and opening the download list seems to be impossible whilst the download isn't in fact downloading at all. Interestingly whilst this is going on for example in Chrome, it isn't possible to even open Internet Explorer. This would suggest to me that the Adobe Plugin is interfering regardless of whether the file is open and whilst it is crashing in one browser is preventing another from opening until the task is killed. Initially clearing the cache seemed to resolve the issue but it keep cropping up again and this time it's stuck. Not only has the cache been cleared but Adobe Reader which is DC on the occasion, the application has also been removed before reinstalling the most recent edition. Following this I've removed the user's local user profile as an experiment and allowed it to be recreated but to no avail. I've of course reinstalled Chrome to rule that out also. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Windows 7 4GB RAM Google Chrome, IE 11 Adobe Reader DC 15.016.20039

Nothing any longer. It was keyboard and mouse and the NIC I believe but I removed one at a time to no avail. At the risk of not being able to wake the computer if it ever decides to sleep I haven't yet re-added any. There's also a command to find what the last action to wake the machine was which is also always blank. Nothing is keeping it awake apparently yet here it is.

Hi Steve Have been concentrating on the power settings to be honest but I do believe even the screensaver fails to execute. That fact that the screen wont even go off after the standard 10 minutes is strange. It's like the settings aren't being processed at all.

Hi there I have a user's PC that I've been looking into for a while that simply refuses to go to sleep after a period of inactivity. As this user leaves their PC unlocked and powered on 24x7 this is a bit of a security risk. I have tried all of the conventional methods suggested on every forum from similar posts to no avail. Deleted all custom power profiles, reset default power profiles to windows default, tried under different users including the login screen. Checked for devices that could be keeping the PC awake such as keyboard and mouse. What I really need is some out of the box thinking here as I'm not in a position to re-image the PC at this time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Seahorse

Any VPN software being installed? CISCO for example. Wonder if there's something that latches on to the network adapters that disagrees with this particular set of hardware.
-
So when trying to install the hotfix what do you get back when it fails to install exactly?
-
Sorry. Thought you meant the NIC rather than the WNIC. Fair Point but I just meant to rule out updated driver in the short term.
-
If that one also gives you grief try exporting one from another laptop using DoubleDriver or similar.
-
Usually network adapter driver related from what I've seen. Seen as you've rebuilt thus from scratch you've most likely used updated drivers. Could you try an older driver in this case? Opposite advise to that of the the wireless adapter I realise.

Remove Eset for the day. Perhaps try using Microsoft Security Essentials as a temporary measure. I've seem issues with network scanning and AV before. I know Sophos was mentioned but AV generally still worth ruling out unless you have already

[ms office - 2013] Outlook 2013 operation failed when sending email

And as far as you can see the bcc field looks normal when populated? eg. [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; Space between the semi colon and the next address.
