  1. It is possible and RM provide a way to do this - see TEC1257812 on RM support. I use it on my Windows 8 non domain PC and it works OK - won't do package imports though.
  2. What are the factors which stop your shutdown script from running? We use CC4 and the shutdown task runs fine on the vast majority of PCs in the school. The startup task is more hit and miss due to WOL not working on our older PCs. In CC4 you can also set policies for PCs going onto standby, turning HDDs off and turning the monitors off, all after a specified amount of inactivity time. We also have put SSDs in many of our PCs and this does help increase power efficiency.
  3. See here for the switches you can use with the user client tool: User Client Options Have you tried the --noquit option?

    Teacher PC's

Agreed! We did our hardware refresh and wound up with i3s with SSDs rather than i5s with HDDs after we demonstrated to the business manager an old Core2Duo with SSD booting up, logging on and opening programs minutes faster than a brand new PC - i5 with a HDD!
  5. Have you tried pressing the home button 3 times?
  6. Yep, it's not just Stone PCs, we have had to replace pretty much every single one in our Viglen PCs from 2009-2010, at least once (same PSU model)!
  7. Thanks for that, I had all the data but in one fragment. I've removed that and put in separate reg files and it works now! Thanks for your help.
  8. Yes agreed about Advanced Installer. I also use "Appdeploy repackager" as a last resort, although be careful with this as you can get a lot of messy MSIs with unwanted registry information and files unless you know exactly what needs to be in the MSI! If you let us know what software you are having trouble with we might be able to help - most educational software I have come across already comes with a silent installer or switches for a silent install.
  9. Thanks for your thoughts, we do have IE11 deployed as a 'back-up' but as we use Google Docs substantially, Chrome is what most people use by default as Google Docs generally donesn't render as well in IE.
  10. Hi, we have a recurring problem with student and teacher accounts whereby if they click on the Chrome icon in the taskbar or from a start menu shortcut, Chrome refuses to open. After a profile reset this works again so it looks like something is being corrupted in the user's profile to prevent Chrome opening. I originally thought it was due to the local profile as that is where the Chrome data is written to but after a profile reset behaves correctly so looks like it is something in the roaming profile. Has anyone experienced this before and know why this keeps happening? Network is RM CC4/Windows 7 clients. Thanks
  11. I don't want the staff to be able to modify/add any shortcuts. I just want the shortcuts in the Users\Public\Public Desktop to appear. I have given staff read access to this folder and changed the folder redirection but it makes no difference... Thanks
  12. Hi, does anyone know how to get all the icons of programs on that PC which are installed to show up for non-admins? When I log in as an admin user I get all the icons, as a standard user I only see RM Network recycle bin. Have spoken to RM who say this is not possible and to use the start menu, but I'm sure it is possible! Is it linked to the start menu in some way? Thanks
  13. Might also be worth checking with RM to see if deployment via GPP is possible.. They won't recommend it I'm sure but I just wondered if they might know a reason/reasons why it wouldn't work before you go to the effort!
  14. As far as I understand things RM uses several of its own components and exe files - namely RM Station delivery (stndeliv2.exe) on logon to map/unmap printers and drives. You could try ignoring the management console for printers and deploying them via GPP but I don't think you'll be able to completely remove the RM printer side of things from your clients without breaking the whole way RM works, and you'll lose shared drives etc etc. You can check the stndeliv logs in C:\Program Files\Research Machines\Network Management\LogFiles As a side note we've recently had lots of problems with printers randomly assigning themselves to user accounts and not unmapping - this was due to 64-bit drivers not being the same version and name as the 32-bit drivers so worth checking! RM's solution was to remove every printer and re-add them but I just matched up the version and printer driver names and it seems to have fixed it. Hope that helps a little bit.
  15. This has happened to me in the past seemingly at random. It can occur months after a PC has been built after it has been working fine so I don't think it is due to missing a network driver. I think its just a RM component corrupted in some way. Anyway, the only way to resolve this (I know of) is a rebuild.
  16. Download the administrative msi, import that into RMMC as a CC3 package (make sure it is in a folder on its own as RMMC imports everything in the same folder as the MSI..), select the OSs that it is compatible with after importing and you should be fine to deploy it. Works for us! ADM templates can be imported into group policy management as above, although this isn't necessary unless you want to restrict/set any options.
  17. We've also had a problem with the Intel USB 3.0 hub driver. I've imported every single driver I can find for this and it still doesn't get applied during the build. I think your best bet here is to create a package which installs the driver. RM has some articles on how to do this, or you might fins Intel already has a package which can be installed silently and imported into management console. For your second issue it sounds like you are using a driver which isn't digitally signed. Try finding a different driver from the manufacturer and importing that into Management Console. Give it a date newer than the current driver you have in RMMC. You only need to assign Windows PE OS if it is a network driver (not relevant here).
  18. We had something like this with a teacher laptop - not Fujitsu but would blue screen often when he went home but was fine at school. Was the wireless driver which caused the issue - even after a re-image we had to try several drivers before we found one which wouldn't blue screen and restart the machine. I'd try searching for a different driver for the wireless card and see if this makes any difference. I might be completely wrong but worth a try!
  19. I'd be interested to hear if there is a way of doing this. We use Meraki and as far as I can see there is no way to remove the option to add a passcode? We can set a passcode but not completely remove them.
  20. Bump! I have exactly the same issue, tried the official fix, have imported the reg file and have a conflict in RMMC and the volume control (or power icon) never appears. Any ideas? Thanks
  21. Try putting in (as above) the exe file in RMMC in a user policy - general - "Run these programs after logon". In the Name box just put any name. In value put the full location of the exe or bat file eg \\server\Netlogon\exe.exe -switch if necessary. Works for us!
  22. Just to update you all - I contacted Avid a couple of days ago and as if by magic they have created this article: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/how_to/Sibelius-7-5-1-Silent-Install-Procedure
  23. Thanks for the suggestions Just tried the Silent Switch Finder and get: USSF detected that the file you selected is a valid PE file. However, it couldn't identify its type. The header returned by PEiD was 'Nothing found [Overlay] *' Also just tried /SERIAL=SWAA-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx /LSINFO=192.168.5.31:7312 /VERYSILENT and still get the "select a language" prompt.
  24. Hi, does anyone know the switches needed to deploy the Sibelius 7.5 network edition? I have successfully deployed Sibelius 5-7 using the switches that Avid provides - however they don't mention the switches for 7.5 and have tried the following: /VERYSILENT /LSINFO= /S /qn /s /v/qn In various forms and can't get anything to work silently. Thanks
