Chrisbf1 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I have been running a time lapse camera for a building project that we have going on. I now want to edit the output and puts some music to it. The output file is in .avi format. Anyone got a recomendations for free software that will help me out. Needs to be relatively easy to use, so I can show my colleagues for future projects.

FragglePete Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Movie Maker is ok but gets a bit cumbersome when you have a lot of images. Our latest timelapse I put together using Sony Vegas Studio - downloaded the demo and really impressed how it handled the image sequences. (The Commonweal Sixth C6 Building Progress Time Lapse - YouTube) - We're looking to get a site license of this in the near future. I'm also looking at lightworks - which seems to handle large amounts of images files and it is available free. Not had a real chance to play with it though. Pete

Lightworks looks good but I think the learning curve is too steep for novices and people who want to use it at a basic level. Are you using the full version of Adobe Premier or Premier Elements? is it simple enough to package and deploy on a network as previous installs of our Adobe CS Suite have been tricky to get working?
MattDLEA Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Have a look at serif stuff, there educational packages arent that expensive. Have it in one of my primary schools and the kids use it no problem its kind of a step on from movie maker. Has a look of the adobe stuff.

CyBeRkId2002 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I would second the Serif suite if you can find a bit of cash... a definite step-up over the freebies and nowhere near in the same price bracket as the Adobe software. We did a cost and product comparison last year and found it covered most areas we needed (I believe flash was one about the only thing we found completely lacking which, lets be honest, isnt a bad thing!) and price-wise cost us less for a perpetual license than Adobe would have for 1 year! Everything else covered what we needed in ICT/Design as a KS3 school and should be fine going forward to KS4.
CyBeRkId2002 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 on a slightly related note I had a play around with Premiere Elements a couple of weekends ago to quickly knock together a quick video with my 5 year old son for his homework and even I found it a bit of a struggle to do what I consider should have been relatively simple tasks. Most likely user error though to be fair

From v4.0.4 onwards, a Freemake logo is added to the end of every video longer than five minutes. For promotional reasons an additional video frame with Freemake logo is added at the end of the videos longer than 5 minutes unless Freemake Gold Pack is activated. (Source)

TomCollins Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Corel VideoStudio is what our Media students use. In ICT, they use Serif MoviePlus, both of which are easy to use and are feature rich.
