If you bought a new laptop Win 8.1 OEM its activate via Bios I've done a few of these where it doesn't activate. Don't get caught up in school politics ! just make sure everything is documented ! keep a live inventory of stock items make sure your paperwork is up to date and if you use any monitoring software make sure that is documented on what you are monitoring with the head and Business manger agreeing to it. I think the message is Documents. its easy to say ill do that later but you never get around to it, yet when you need that document your screwed without it.

Permissions Issue, Check inheritance on your folder structure. If you truly believe its ACL then you need to check GPO on the folder redirection

Hi James, used your guide, excellent! got the basics up and running but each user gets stuck when they try to get to there own documents also after creating the virtual directory and turning it into an application I get invalid path, although I have looked this up and its a known problem I think as an Admin it works great just need to try and get the kids into there own folders now so any ideas would be great. Keep up the good work as it has given me the idea to do this and the basics in nearly getting it there so big thanks for the guide

Hi PRastall, not worked on RM for a few years and my initial thought would be to lower the PC's down to 32 bit OS with a fresh install, as the Database is 10 years old. but I would make the user a local admin first to see if its a permission thing as the old RM CC3 stuff used to like to dominate a bit, also check on the file location of the database to see if the user can access the location go to start run \\databaseserver\databaselocation if this opens then you can generally rule out network problems as it would be more file security then

Just doing the same here! I have been looking at 3 systems so far and whilst cost is the main deciding factor, I will be definatly be going AC phase 1 for basically 2 reasons. My budget is small so any project that I do managed to do need to last a good few years so whilst N is still going to be around for a few years I haven't got the option to go back and ask for more money " take what you can we you can". AC is backwards compatible so it wont cause any heartache's even if the technology is not around yet. I have looked at Meraki, Meru and juniper so far with Ruckus, Aerohive and Unifi left to look at. Although I have specified that AC is the base standard so Juniper will be out unless the project takes a while. Meraki: I really like, I signed up to a webinar so have a MR12 that I'm playing with, coverage and management interface is really good very intuitive set up "nice and easy" lots of configuration options traffic management etc Meru: I like the concept and think this could be a winner but the high density and recommended point in every classroom could price itself out of the market, although it appears to have a good management interface Juniper: ticks all the boxes but not AC yet so will see when the new AP's come out. Hope this helps its certainly worth speaking to meraki they will send you some points out to trial and ive just spoke to Meru no trails but looks goods let me know how you go on

@AngryTechnician. I've tried that there's no recent documents and everything is empty! looked in her new profile, as I have moved her back to her old one and found the recent's that point to the server location that is empty. so from a breadcrumb point of view I know she has saved work to her server location on the new profile but this is empty, when you login as her there's is no recent's, no shadow copies anywhere and nothing in the event logs to show that the directory have been moved or deleted. I've downloaded a full file search from Jam Software which hasn't come up with anything on the network or the local pc's. @ Dany no problem, the bike is the only thing that keeps me sane

Hi Peeps, Thanks in advance Ok here goes I hope this makes sense. Just started to redo our GP's and created new OU's for staff and students, so I have gone through the old settings and transferred what I needed and left out what I didn't need etc. I moved the students over no problem and it actually works quite well. As our staff don't like change I have been slowly moving each teacher across when a change is needed and then explained your desktop now looks different because of this and that. So I had a teacher on holiday and I was asked to set up her out of office on her e-mail, so changed her password (authorised) and set up Out Of Office replies, this said it was working but didn't send the response e-mail, so I moved her to the new OU and thought nothing much more about it, tested the Out of office still not working so I have been looking into that but this stuff happens, not really concerned. The teacher in question came back on Monday and had a few issues logging in and settings, which I put down too, can I say user error (i'm very bitter and twisted NM and everybody's stupid ) so I get an e-mail this morning saying she cant find her documents so I remote in make sure the path is correct, which it is. So have a look around cant see anything obviously wrong so thought I fire up Veeam and restore her documents to before she went on holiday. Now this is where I'm concerned ive got backups dating al the way to 1st Jan and she doesn't appear on any of them there is no work on the network for her I have logged onto every PC she has used and no work in the local hard drives aswell. I'm starting to panic now as she has been here for 5 years and is very high up the pecking order and also she's really nice ! Any Ideas where to look ? Hi Guys, Had this a few times the fix is allow network files its a Reg Key that needs to be imported into the Reg. My problem is a cant get the computer to remember the Reg key when a new user logs on unless I add the key as a local admin ! Here's the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Movie Maker] "AllowNetworkFiles"=dword:00000001 any ideas how I can push this out over the network instead of logging into each machine

Also do you have Offline Files ON or OFF ?
