Breakdown Cover?

Just had a renewal quote through for our (myself and wife's) AA roadside recovery with all the bells and whistles, home start, relay etc etc (not European cover though) and can't believe how much it is, nearly £250! Had a quick look at Green Flag and RAC and both cheaper, anyone got any experience of these two as they are cheaper, green flag much so. Ilike the peace of mind of having cover just the cost is spiralling out of all proportion.

AA always quote you stupid, I play them every year and get it cheaper than they offer online.

 

Worth giving them a call it does pay off.

I use start rescue. Good price, used them a couple of times on my old car and service was good.

Use RAC good when we need them but always question price each year and they reduce it

The Natwest advantage gold bank account (the proper name i can't remember) is £13 a month. You get breakdown cover with that, also with mobile phone insurance and other stuff. Edited December 8, 2013 by FN-GM

Last Jan I had AA renewal

 

£150 with free upgrade to silver membership ,

 

I said I want my normal membership, and that if I took this out on a cashback deal with a cashback website I could get the deal for £55 instead of £104.

 

Thet offered £80 and asked if that was agreeable??? yeah like £25 is not worth 10 mins work!

 

If I had just renewed they would have been laughing with 95 extra.

I'm covered with them but haven't needed to use them yet so can't personally vouch for the service, however when I was looking to replace my extortionate AA cover these guys seemed to get good reviews.

To be honest I'd do what FN-GM has suggested. Alot of packaged bank accounts include decent breakdown cover for 10 to £15 a month as well as other services such as travel insurance and mobile phone cover.

 

I use Natwest with a Platinum account at £16 a month, but one one of the best is Nationwide Flexplus at £10 a month. When I did the sums on what I was already payin for various services moving to a paid for account was a no brainer, as well as a monthly fee being alot easier on the wallet than large one off payments!

I pay a £5 a month for home start with Green flag. I thinks it home start anyway. Its their middle cover.

 

Remember Quidco is your friend whichever you go for.

I was chatting earlier to a guy with a Megane and starting issues (I often get Renault questions thrown at me because "Its French and you know about Peugeots and Citroens")

 

He called out the AA.

 

The AA man peered into the engine, said it was probably the starter motor, but couldn't see it and didn't know where it was.

Hate the RAC after massive issues in France on holiday over the summer, but at least whilst out there they looked after us. I broke down last week too (the day before I ended up in plaster in hospital, but that's another story) and I happened to pull in behind a rac van, fair play to the guy, he sorted me out.

We have Natinwide Flexaccount plus, £10/month includes - Worldwide travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, breakdown cover and extended warranty. It's a no-brainer.

Renewed my insurance beginning of November. The RAC were one of the best quotes so I went with them and it includes get-you-home-or-destination breakdown.

 

I'd love to say the breakdown cover is with Green Flag or AA, just for the irony, but it's with RAC.

Well, did as suggested and phoned them up to say thinking of leaving and armed with comparable quotes...bingo..suddenly a 40% discount is suddenly applied bringing it to same as the others, well happy and guess what I will be doing next year!
