What is your workstation spec?

I've got a load of HP Z600 & Z800 Xeon workstations at the moment. They're proving really popular as NM workstations. And with two 55xx series Xeon Quad Cores, upto 48GB RAM and an SSD I can see why!

Dell Optiplex 755 - 2GB RAM, two core 3GHz CPU. Handled XP just fine, limps since we upgraded to W7 18 months ago.

Little Novatech number that's been upgraded since. i5-3450, 8GB RAM, SSD, and another 500GB drive for a bit of storage. Duel 22" monitors.

I snaffled the highest spec machine in the school when I rolled out Win 7 (elitism etc, I know)

 

Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM and 74GB HDD

 

Will soon be left behind though when I roll out the new laptops to teachers. I want them to have the newest machines as that hopefully reduces the chances of failures in classrooms (other than that our machines are all approaching 5 years old). If my machine goes down, I will probably find a way to get by, but classroom staff wouldn't.

Dell Precision T5400, getting on a bit now but would be quick enough to not skip a beat apart from the dire RAID controller that seems to not like disk writes very much, even slows down the Crucial M4 SSD I've got in it for VM use

These machines are brilliant! We've sold loads of these. They run like a dream with a pair of E5450 3.0GHz Quads and 32Gb RAM

In my last place I had a custom built PC which had a nice Antec case (not a top end I will add just one for a few HDDs and front connectors), 2nd gen mid range i5, 16Gb Ram, 120GB SSD and a 1TB storage SATA drive, mid-range dual output VGA card for driving the 2 screens I had and a simple Coolermaster PSU. Cost about £500 in parts at the time so nothing outrageous and given I ran many VMs for testing and checking things it was certainly good value compared to a brand new HP of the same sort of spec.

 

Before that I had a refurbished HP Pro Workstation from ICT Direct which did me nearly 3 years of good service

it was going to be an decent i5 workstation but then we needed a new fog server urgently so I donated mine. Have been using since, a dual core e7900 with win7 on and it's mostly alright. Now I don't want to change!

Novatech Laptop - i7-2670QM 8Gb RAM 500Gb Hybrid drive + NVidia GT555m

 

Would love a nice SSD in there but as I do a lot of media stuff I need the space.

Battery life is amazing, considering the spec I easily get 6+ hours with mixed work.
