1.Not sure what's on your D drive. You can either move the DB to the D drive or create a new database on the D drive. May be worht creating a new db that way your edb file will shrink to. 2. If you want, create 2 DB on the D rive, one for staff and another for pupile, then move to each DB. 3. What you can do is set mailbox limits, send/reciove limits, if storage permist create an archive DB for them and enable personal archives. 4. You can use MRM and managed default folder to do housekeeping, i.e create policies to delete mail tems over certain age and/or delete items from the deleted itmes folder, as some users keep this as a filing systems etc..

Exchange 2007 freezes when replying to emails
sukh replied to Altyboys's topic in Enterprise Software
1. I'd upgrade your Exch server to the latest SP3 and rollup3. 2. Also mak sure your Outlook has the latest patches. 3. When staff are sending emails iwth attachements, does it ever get delieverd or not? 4. Can you reproduce the issue? 5. Find a usr who has the issue, try and recreate, send via OWA and test 6. Try another PC. Sukh -
1. If OOO is for external users then use the above as mentioned and set it for all mailboxes on that DB, you should be able to use get-mailmailbox for that DB and pipe out to set-mailbox. 2.If internal pupils are sending OOO to internal users, this would be difficult to achieve but if you dont want the OOO to go to internal users then use transport rule to silently drop the message and use keyworkds such as Out-Of-Office etc... 1. Check where your database and logs files are located. If they're on the same drive as C: then I would move them to another drive. Get more disks for your server and locate the database and log files on separate spindles. 2. Make sure your backs are working, either do full or incremental so your transaction logs get cleared. 3. Set some mailbox limits so your database doesn't grow unexpectedly or doesn't get abused by users. 4.Think about MRM and maybe introduce policies to maintain mailboz items, such as clearing deleted items after x days, or removing certain attach$ents such as mp3 etc. 5. You may want to create a mew database, move mailboxes and delete the old one to reduce thje physical database size.

server 2003 corrupt Active Directory Database problem
sukh replied to Mark_D's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
1. Can work and have seen ti work in some cases. 2. Why is your 2nd DC 8 days old? Are your DC's replicating? You need to to know which DC you believe is the most recent in terms of up to data with no corruption. Then replicate that to the other DC. 3. Yes you can demoted a PDC, but I would again check where all your FSMO roles are and transfer them to a working DC beofre demoting. 4. Before doing a restore I would identity a working DC if you have one. Otherwsie you may overwrite a working directory and may lose some of your config.changes. 5. A DC would have local accounts, not sure what the issue here would be you can use domain accoutns. 6. What info is on the sick PDC? there's load of util which you can use to boot into the DC with and grab your files. Search this forum, there are a few mentioned here with steps. -
1. Exchange can't really do this natively as one would want, not even the content filter mentioned above. Content filter applies to external sender>internal. 2. In your case for internal message flow, you can create transport rules and add words ti maintain the list. 3. You can get base list of common swear words and add them to the transport rule and then build. - Profanity Filter Word List

now that you have deleted the logs, make sure the type of backup you run is full and not any other type, this will fail. After the full backup you may if you wish use incrementals.

New exchange server on new domain - how do I do it?
sukh replied to sidewinder's topic in Wired Networks
1. How are you going to build the new domain? By this I assume you mean a new AD forest with a single domain or multiple? 2. Depends on how much infrastructure, you may not need downtime, i.e you can perform a inter migration. You havent mentioned how many servers you have. 3. If you're doing a inter migration then it seems like you will be creating a new Exch Org too. 4. Depends how you do your migration will effect how you deal with incoimg email. if your ISP support holding email that may be one option, depends on the MTA used by your ISP, ask them if they allow this. Most allow you to queue up. 5. Exporting mailboxing and importing is a pain, depends on the number of users you're talking about. If you're talking small numbers then maybe use exmerge and export out to PST them import back into mailboxes when on exch 2010. This will do all mailbox folders that you select including contacts. 6. I would create another exch Org and move the mailboxes across, however this will require some time as youb will need ot create user accounts etc...and do your migration properly. 7. Think about your PF too, if you're taking them over. 8. Look out for smarthost, db settings, rentensions periods, bakups, message limite, DL, QBDL, mailbox polices,EAP, accepted domains, relays apps, etccc basically, mirror your settings that you have on exch 2010, some will be obvious others will be in places you may not have seen before, i.e some taks you will have to do in the shell. -
np, glad its resolved Sukh

1. As mentioned you need to make sure Autodiscover is setup. Therefore make sure youre external namespace is setup correctly if using A or SRV records. 2. When you purchase a cert, make sure you configure it too include all the hostname you require TO INCLUDE autodiscover. Make sure you get this right. 3. You will have less trouble with a trusted 3rd party SSL cer. 4. Ensure your firewall is settp to allow traffic thorugh. 5. You may have a few iisues with IP v6 and and port ranes which you may have to open. 6. When you deploy, verify your deployment - https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/Default.aspx - also help you identify issues with your config. Sukh

live@edu - migrating from Exchange 2003
sukh replied to coop1984's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
1. Yes, it's not complicated at all. 2. Once you've verified your domain ownership etc... then it staright forward. 3. I would also post on Getting Started - Outlook Live Answers Sukh -
1. Depends on how you want to do the migration. You can have a legacy name space for your 2003 and keep that active, so users on 2003 can continue to use active-syn on old deployement. 2. You can configure the exch legacy url. Info below to help you understand. not sure how your incoming mails are routed, but if you manage your MX record, dont forget to update to point to the new server, in fact, maybe create to, one for each while you do the migrations.

1. You cant have edge on the same server. This is true for 2007 and 2010/ 2. The mailbox move is straight forward, if you're using PF DB then make sure this is setup too before you start movng the users. I would do replicate any PF content first before moving users. 3. You dont need an edge, it really depends on your env, i.e howmessgae flow into and out of your Org. 4. If you;re using message cleaning/screening, via a 3rd party then it's not mandortary to have an edge. 5. Edge can only be installed in a workgroup, it cannot be part of your internal domain. 6. If you intend to access email remotely, either OWA or OA, then you need to setup your externalnamespace and configure certificates and your firewalls. 7. When moving mailboxes, bear in mind your log transactions will increase so make sure you have enough disk space and perform backups to clear down logs. 8. Plan your mailbox DB and roles, seems like you have one server, so put all roles (mbx, hub and cas) on here. 9. If you want HA then configure DAG and CAS arrays.

good, seems like it;s working....see how it goes throughout the day/week....if there's issues, post back.

Microsoft Forefront TMG - BSOD's and fweng.sys
sukh replied to sven's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
1. BSOD involves debugging so would take time. Some cases will require source code. But you can try yourself to analys the dump. 2. Not sure what version your firewall engine is but you can try referencing this Description of the Forefront Threat Management Gateway, Medium Business Edition hotfix package: August 13, 2009 and compare the version, if the KB is newer then apply this to get a newer version of the file. 3.It may mean you have to call a MSFT and ask them to do the analysis of the dump -
what issues are you having deploying share point designer, and how are you deploying them? And to what clients?
