  1. 1. Use you Exisitign AD forest and build a new Exch server and integrate into you r existing Exch Org. What you are saying, isnt a valid reason to create a new Forest. 2. Migrating within a Exch is simpler than Corss-Org. If you're migrating within the Org, then you dont have to worry about, PF migration if used, Free/Busy, GAL synch if need to maintain co-existence, AD trusts etc..., mailbox moves across forest, and as your're using Exch 2003, you will have to either spend some money or write some clever PS scripts etc.... 3. For your Exch 2010, make sue you DONT install on a DC as you have with your Exch 2003 svr. 4. To make Exch HA/FT - You need to think every different roles, such as the CAS, HUB and MBX. Which I would typically see in an env like yours. 5. Consider how many AD sites you have, as Exch will have to be deployed accordingly. 6. Create CAS array regardless if you have one server CAS to start with. 7. High level, have 2 CAS servers, 2 HUB per AD site. Configure DAG with at least 3 or worse case with 2 servers. 8. Now you might be thinking there are quite a few servers you need, and yes, you do if you want HA/LB. For this I'd suggest that your virtualise, but make sure your virtual infra is resillient. 9. HA, OWA/EAS etc... 10. If you use app relay, HA/LN this. 11. You can use WNLB or HLB, understand the difference between thyese and their limitations. 12. If using WNLB you cant have this on the same svrs as DAG nodes. There's quite abit to think about for Exch if you want HA/LB.
  2. 1. PST are a pain, in particular the ones which exceed 2GB. 2. 2GB was the supported limit of PST for Outlook 2003, anything over this would cause corruption. 2010 suports up to 20GB due to the format which has been changed. 3. What you can try and do is, open the PST file via Outlook 2010 and see if you can recover. 4. Failng that, if the data is crotical, your only option is to pat for a 3rd party software to recover. Sukh
  3. 1. As you know now that you can use PS to search the mailbox and delete/export the content. 2. For future, maybe you should use transport rules to prevent this.
  4. 1. Depends how "corporate" you want to go. Some companies are now shifting from BES to GOOD. 2. It reduces the costs as the data usage/line rental/phone is down to the end user, all your do is have a backend servers, the users install a little app on the mobile/device and they connect retrieve their email. 3. Compared to some providers, they charge x amont per MB which can be costly, if users have their own personal tariffs, you may a small fee like £5 for pretty much "unlimited", where as data usage sat for even 300-500MB can easily cost more that £5
  5. 1. Do as Nick suggested, this is the last resort. 2. Dont just format your drive and start again as AD will still have these object, you have to clean them up. 3. When you have removed from ADSIedit make sure your force AD replication, once complete then you may format and start again.
  6. 1. As a test, empty all your temp files, cookies, history etc and test. 2. Open InPrivate Browsing in IE and test.
  7. 1. White space will automatically be used, if you mean you want to recliam space, are you referring to the actual physical size of the edb file? 2. If yes, what I'd suggest you do is create a new mailbox DV, move the users across and delete. 3. You can run eseutil and defrag but I wouldn't, you will need downtime, more storage and it has more of a chance failing. Sukh
  8. 1. What version of Exch are you using? 2. As suggested run https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ and post results. 3. Have you published External namespace, i.e for OWA? Does this work externally? 4. Check you IIS logs to see if the connection is actually hitting your Exch server, copy results of log and post/PM me, only the relevant section as htese logs may be massive.
  9. 1. See this - Provision Exchange Mailboxes from CSV using PowerShell Advanced Functions
  10. 1. You should see a event ID 1221 showing the white space. It runs at the completing of the maintence windows. 2. What is your concern? Sukh
  11. 1. Why are you splitting on-premise with cloud? 2. Why not have all on-premise?
  12. Have I missed something? HOw does leaving there PC's help you?
  13. 1. Agree with what Rabbie says. This is your ideal solution and they key is "super confidential". What makes this small office think that there data is confidential? Are they using secure pop3/smtp. 2. Wha happens with the data on the POP server? 3. Wha happens with the backups ? Where are the backup tapes? Are they secure ? etc....
  14. 1. I strongly disagree. All MSFT are saying are not to use public folders and to use Sharepoint as an alternative, or to migrate to your existing PF to Sharepoint. 2. They are still around in exch 2010 as they have been with previous version and still be in in the next version of exch. 3. There are too many customers who are using PF for them to be removed from exch. 4. When exch 2007 was going to be launched, the rumors were PF will be removed, however they were still there, then it was tried again to move PF in exch 2010, hoping customers had moved to SP, but they hadnt. Again, it was still there in 2010. 5. I actually worked for one of the customer who heavily used PF and was one of the many which influenced this decision along with other similar cstomers. 6. Over 120,000 seats, in the private/public sector, that al of money for MSFT, multipl that by that by similar sized companies, would impact MSFT if they were to move away.
  15. 1. PF will still be around for some time, there are too many customers using them and they will still be around on the next release of exch. 2. Setup is fairly simple, but it depends on your requirements, and what you want from it, it starts to get abit difficult when you start lookat at HA/FT.3 3. Migration can be easy too, depends what system youre migrating from and the exisiting setup, some can be complex others straight forward. 4. You have more control over your messaging env than having it hosted, and there's issues with hosted email be it MSFT, Cisco, Google etc...It's still not mature. 5. Exch will utilise all the RAM avaliable, however you should plan for this and your mailbox roles - Updates to the Exchange 2010 Mailbox Server Role Requirements Calculator - Exchange Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs - Use the calulator to help you. 6. Overall exch is my opinion is a good systems and it is a leading messaging system in the industry.
  16. 1. FYI, iisrest is not a restart of the IIS services in windows, it's different, this is specific to IIS and would have reset IIS, althoguh the reboot would have done the same.
  17. you can get 26GB for MSFT, this is why I suspect Google have increased to match/competitive.
  18. perform a iisrest on the exch server
  19. those are still applicable to 2008R2, it just doesnt include the new features but the setp is the same.
  20. 1. Did you get a root certificate too when you cert was issues to you, the full path isnt avaliable, this is why youre getting the error. The root exisits in the browser but it seems liek you have a Intermediate?
  21. See Opening PDF Files in SharePoint 2010 | The White Pages Should be able to google this one, loads of workarounds/fixes etc...
  22. 1. For what reason are you installing the Cert if youre using http and not https? 2. If you got to mail.theockendonacademy.com can you login succesfully and use OWA?
  23. What do you mean not save them in sharepoint?
  24. Is that one SP2010 tested? Only shows 2007?
  25. 1. Yes, you have to import the cer then enable on the services. 2. You dont need to rename the cert .txt, that was for the output 3. What format did you get yuo cert in pfx p12 cer?
