Apologies for the thread necromancy, just hit the same issue myself and wondered if a resolution was every found?

For our ICT equipment we're taking advantage of the asset information stored in our helpdesk system

We have received a request from a member of our Senior Leadership Team that e-Mail distribution lists be created for students by year group and college. We have security groups that cover either the *year or the †college courtesy of Talmos/CoreECS who operate the back-end of our Portal/VLE based on information pulled from SIMS.net, however I can’t find a way of combining them. I had heard that there were distribution lists that could be built around queries in Exchange Server 2003 and earlier, however this feature seems to have evaporated by the time they reached Exchange Server 2010. I think that it has been replaced by PowerShell scripting which is not something I am proficient with. We use Equitrac, it isn't what software you use, it is the policies that you apply that will deliver the benefits. We feel that we have exceptional control over the printing in terms of quotas for individual students (determined after 12 months of monitoring), additional credit for students charged to faculties, faculty printing quotas, monthly billing and invoices, pricing incentives to persuade and encourage good printing behaviour, and other policies both organisational and through Equitrac rules that discourage poor printing behaviour.

We spent an entire year running the Print Management System in a silent, monitoring only mode, to establish a baseline and identify peaks and troughs in usage. It also gave use a years worth of data on running costs so that the price per page were accurate. We also ensured that there were financial benefits to green approaches like using double sided being cheaper than two single sided sheets and similar, and where our large MFD are cheap to run, sometimes large print runs are cheaper when run through the faster printing devices that the reprographics technician operates and so the carrot and stick of barring large print runs (over 100 copies (enough for a class set)) while ensuring that the cheaper services offered by the technician were made obvious (which also prevented the machines from being tied up and blocking student use). edit : we churned through the figures to establish values that 90%, 95% and 99% of students in each year were able to keep to when they weren't under any restrictions and that has worked well We also made sure that there were mechanisms in place to request long term increases for students where additional high printing was to be expected, and short term requests that could be processed quickly and charged to the department request the extra to the student.

Well spotted, and duly noted, but the other 180ish machines are fine, and I'd rather stick with 'correct' installation location so there's no overwhelming need to mess with the odd half a dozen, they'll get re-built at some point and be fine from that point onwards, but some have manually installed software that I'd rather leave alone until I absolutely have to.

Sometimes we found that if there had been a previous installation, old school style SOLUS2, it installed to Program Files regardless of the system architecture of Windows and recorded that fact in the registry somewhere. When SOLUS3 installs it is smart enough to install in Program Files x86, resulting in it installing a second copy alongside the first rather than updating what was there originally. There are half a dozen machines which for various reasons I haven't and don't currently want to re-build that suffer from this, and I have to maintain a list of them to manually copy the freshly updated files to the older location.

You don't mention whether you then closed and re-opened the SOLUS 3 Deployment Server UI after the DNS flushing ... I often found that until I did that it didn't work ... I'm guessing that it doesn't do things live and works form a cached copy created at launch.

Any other regular web page seems to allow to print

Upon selecting a child in SIMS and going to 'Attendance' in the right hand 'Links' menu, you have the option to 'Print' through the button at the top of the panel. In doing so with the default option you get a HTML file open in Internet Explorer. If you go to the 'cog' menu in Internet Explorer you can choose to Print the page and it gives you the expected Print dialog box, if you use nothing happens. This is reproducible across multiple staff accounts in our site, is this the same for everyone on all sites?

The HDD is gone ... don't waste any more time on it. Toshiba has a special version of the BIOS they supplied to us to get around this after we lost dozens of HDDs as a result of this brainless implementation of a BIOS. edit : torturing the student may reveal the password

A heads up for anyone experiencing difficulties launching the SMARTboard Service ... try the -d switch after the command line to launch the service, on v10 it didn't need any command line parameter, however v11 seems to need this ... "c:\Program Files (x86)\SMART Technologies\Education Software\smartboardservice.exe" -d My colleague managed to glean this information from SMART, but it doesn't seem to be documented as smartboardservice.exe doesn't give you anything useful from /? or -h for help.

My googling on the subject suggested that it was worth checking the list of profiles showing on the system, and comparing that to the "ProfileList" entries in the registry, in some cases there was a discrepancy.

Is this a recent change?

Point taken, however her difficulties also extend to fine motor control which makes typing problematic, hence the attempt at voice recognition but it hasn't been as successful as we had originally hoped due to vocal issues. We will have to look at other approaches, although the question is still open if anyone still stumbles upon any solutions which purport to work with those with a less than perfect speaking voice.

Has anyone out in the community identified any voice recognition software which has proven to be effective for someone with a speech impediment? We have tried Dragon, but we have received feedback that even with extensive training the software has reached a level of usability appropriate for its use with the student in question.

FYI, according to this post ... windows live sync/msi - Microsoft Community ... the WindowsLiveSync has been replaced with MeshRuntime.msi

You register with Adobe and the links they send you have entries for all the flavours of Flash including MSIs, I vaguely recall having to run the Adobe Reader installer and then find where is extracted the setup files to (%TEMP% then the most recently created folder) and then pulling out the .MSI file from there.

If the evidence presented caused staff to fear for their jobs surely it indicates that the situation is cause for concern and that the staff recognise that the situation is so bad that they should fear for their job. If, as the council maintain, the photos don't demonstrate the need for improvement then why are the staff worried. If the documented incidences of poor quality or unappealing food are accurate then they should be saying "thank you for bring this to our attention, we'll sort it out" not "you're causing our staff anxiety by highlighting their shortcoming which we don't recognise".
