We've had several early morning outages which were rectified before the start of the students day threw the staff and ourselves in a panic because of of World Maths Day (an entire day requiring constant net access). We are not permitted a second Internet connection through a different provider under the terms of our contract, and the contract for uptime is for a whole 24 hour period not specifically to the educationally beneficial hours, so the allowed (without penalty) outage of (I think) 6 hours could be 'acceptable' within the 6 hours of the students working day.

Can't argue with the speed comment, SpiceWorks isn't nippy because it's trying to be all things to all people, there is a great deal to it beyond the Help Desk. Training wise it's pretty intuitive from both ends. I might look further into Trellis ... looks much slicker ... does it track by device like SpiceWorks?

You can create a user 'portal' which can be tied to AD, they provide credentials to it and then they can raise a support ticket and keep track of the open (and closed) tickets. From the other side they arrived 'unassigned' and then you can assign them to members of the team or do like we do and we grab the ones which feel best suit our skill set. The User will receive an e-mail (if there is an e-mail associated with the AD account) say how has taken it on board. You then have the usual public replies and private notes, closing of calls by either end, and you can associate the ticket with any piece of hardware found by SpiceWorks' inventory scans allowing you to keep a per device history. We've also used the articles feature to create a FAQs page on the portal. We've gone through a similar evolution and have moved onto using Spicework's helpdesk system which, whilst not being perfect, now gives us a better feel and control of our incoming jobs ... the difficulties have mainly been with bending staff to our will and persuading them of the advantages for them.

We tend to make it very clear to staff and students that if they use the establishment's accounts then they have no expectation of privacy, they aren't the pupils' accounts nor are they staff accounts, they are all the property of the establishment and as such are controlled and accessed at our discretion. If they want privacy they use their own personal accounts from home and not using our equipment.

If it's anything like Realtek drivers and front ports on PCs then there is a tick box which may need to be unticked about detecting devices on the front inputs (look for a spanner icon somewhere, it varies from driver to driver) ... don't know it it will help but I've had to do it on every Realtek based solution I've used in the last few years (and had to re-do after each driver re-install)

Have you considered using Bashrat the Sneaky's Driver Packs since they are tested to work, you can use the KTD "Keep The Drivers" option to leave them on the HDD and therefore part of the image when it's sysprepped. I can't say that I've tried it or that it will work ... but it may be worth a try.

I'm sure that they will be able to tell you the capabilities of their printing equipment and you can tailor your document to suit.

My understanding is that it is legal for the school/child to use the work in it's original form, i.e. on the CD it was originally distributed on (not a copied CD, not an MP3), or in an edited form with the appropriate permissions from the artist's representative or by virtue of an appropriate licence (some of the creative commons licences which allow re-mixing and other alterations).

Our teachers use free music resources made available through the LGfL, and there are a few sites which offer "creative commons" licenced music of a reasonable standard (even if it is not current chart singles), equally a child may play an original CD alongside their music if they wish.
